Last week’s picks

A disappointing week for my picks as they all failed to bring home any fantasy returns. My first ever keeper pick Fabianski did manage to make 8 saves in a 1-0 defeat so returned 4 points. He was on for an 11-point haul before Newcastle’s winner in 76th minute. Mahrez was unlucky not to pick up an assist as he set up a great chance during a fast counter-attack. As Leicester’s fixtures begin to turn, he could be a good replacement for the injured Pogba despite last week’s blank. I went for a real punt on Propper which did not go brilliantly as he managed just one shot in his blank.

This weeks picks

Maguire, 5.1mil DEF, 6.8%

I’m going for another Leicester player this week to take advantage of their improving schedule. Maguire made the move from relegated Hull in the summer and has made a promising start to his career at the King Power stadium. He picked up a goal and an assist in his first two games to further demonstrate the attacking threat that was apparent last year. He had the 2nd most shots inside the box of all FPL defenders last season which helped him to collect 2 goals and 3 assists. These stats are made all the more impressive by the fact that he only started 25 games last year.

When looking into Leicester’s fixtures, only Liverpool look like a particularly difficult game on a paper during the next seven weeks.. Even then, given their struggles to defend set-pieces, there could be chances for Maguire to find the back of the net again. The Foxes kept a clean sheet in their opening home game against Brighton and there should be more around the corner considering the upcoming matches. That would mean fantasy points for the Englishman and, given his serious attacking threat, he could easily be in line for a big haul.

Leicester’s next 6 fixtures:
Huddersfield (A)
Liverpoo, (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Brom (H)
Swansea (A)
Everton (H)

Coutinho, 8.8mil MID, 2.3%

The Brazilian was one of the stars of FPL last season but we have yet to see him in action thus far due to a supposed back injury amid transfer speculation. Liverpool managed to resist the approaches of Barcelona and it may be the time to consider taking him back into our sides. He had 13 goals and 8 assists last year in just 28 starts to help him to his best ever FPL campaign. If we see a return to this form, it could be a great move to get Coutinho in early before his ownership and price begins to rise.

He has already dropped in price since the start of the season so comes in cheaper than midfield colleagues Salah and Mane. The latter is of course banned for the next two league games after his red card against Man City. This could see Coutinho lining up in the LW position that Mane has been playing which is somewhere that he has excelled. This weekend he faces a home game against a Burnley side missing Tom Heaton in goal which presents the perfect opportunity for him to announce himself as a serious fantasy option again.

Liverpool’s next 6 fixtures:
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Tottenham (A)
Huddersfield (H)

Joselu, 5.5mil FWD, 0.4%

Joselu has gone from a Stoke reject to leading the line for Newcastle and is doing a decent job so far. I was impressed with how well he held the ball up during the Swansea game on Sunday. He was unable to get on the scoresheet that day but he did score the week before. This week, the Spaniard is taking on his old side and I’m sure that he would love to prove a point by finding the back of the net against them. If he does find goalscoring form, then he could prove a great budget striker in a price bracket which is lacking a standout option currently.

The attacking threat shown by Joselu so far has been very good. His shot conversion is impressively high at 75%. This has helped him to register the joint most shots on target this season of all players alongside the more illustrious names of Kane, Lukaku and Salah. He has played a game less than these three as well which highlights the excellent nature of this stat. If he can keep posting these underlying stats, further goals will surely come for him, hopefully starting this weekend.

Newcastle’s next 6 fixtures:
Stoke (H)
Brighton (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Burnley (A)

That concludes my picks for this week. Let me know any of your differential picks in the comments section and feel free to ask any questions about your team for this gameweek. You can also find me on Twitter.
