Some initial thoughts
In a week which was already complicated enough due to the FA Cup 5th round games and their implications for GW31 this adds another layer.
I think most peoples immediate reaction to a double gameweek generally is to get as many players as they can in. This gameweek is complicated by the general uncertainity that clouds Man City due to team selection. Even the players were rumoured to have a showdown with Pep as they were sick of it. The one thing that makes me think that rotation maybe won’t be that bad is the fact that Man City play Burnley at home on Saturday the 14th of March and then play Real Madrid in the 2nd leg of the Champions League tie leading 2-1 on the Tuesday following. It’s possible that the mass rotation of key players could take place v Burnley. Now nothing is guaranteed with Pep but that for me makes me slightly more confident that there’s a chance some of the attacking players as well as Ederson could play 2 games.
Arsenal is a different matter. Of the attacking players it’s hard to see Aubameyang not play 2 games and surely Pepe has a shout for 2 as well. Ozil could be sacrificed for a more defensive player and we saw at Chelsea he only played 54 minutes.
The City defence has conceded goals and the certainty of Aubameyang playing twice could easily make him a captain favourite. I will be re doing the captain poll and the transfer polls in light of the additional fixture
What about blank GW31
Here’s my article monitoring blank GW31 through this gameweek
Arsenal are already through to the 6th round of the FA Cup and therefore will have no fixture in GW31.
Man City via the fact that their GW31 opponents Chelsea are through will also have a blank GW31.
If your plan was to hopefully navigate GW31 without using a free hit chip then making a transfer for a Man City and/or an Arsenal player won’t help those prospects.
However all the FA Cup games will need to be played before calculations are made. So personally I’m not rushing into anything.
What are my plans?
At the moment the only player I have from the 2 double gameweek teams is Kevin De Bruyne. Aubameyang is the likely captain favourite I would think and a handy player to have.
My 3 forwards are Calvert Lewin, Vardy and Firmino. Firmino v Bournemouth is going no where. Vardy v Aston Villa would need a 4 point hit from Martial to get Aubameyang. Calvert lewin’s value can’t be bridged. With Man City away the 2nd fixture for Aubameyang I’m really not sure about Vardy out and a -4. De Bruyne if he plays 2 games is the alternative captain and even single game Salah vs Bournemouth is a pretty tempting alternative.
At the moment I can’t say what my approach is until the Wednesday cup games are played as Leicester and Everton’s fate are important to my GW31 decision so I’m parking any DGW transfer decisions for the moment.
That’s it hope it provided some food for thought
