fantasy premier league double gameweeks – scenario planning to understand what could happen better

Fantasy Premier League

At the time of the fantasy premier league double gameweeks I normally find it easier to understand how things could pan out if I make some assumptions on the results and then follow that through.  While those results may differ from the actual it does give me a understanding of how things could work in the future and make the theoretical more practical

fantasy premier league double gameweeks – scenario planning to understand what could happen better

Postponed fixtures that need to be rescheduled

You’ll know from my blank GW31 article that the following games are going to have to be postponed due to the fact that the FA Cup quarter finals clash with the GW31 fixtures

Those postponed fixtures are:

Chelsea v Man City
Man Utd v Sheffield Utd
Newcastle v A Villa
Norwich v Everton
Leicester v Brighton
Southampton v Arsenal

There’s also an allocated GW28 fixture of Aston Villa v Sheffield Utd

As a rule these can only be put into GW34 and GW37 to avoid clashes with the European matches.  There are exceptions to avoid log jams as we’ll see with Man City v Arsenal in GW29 but these are exceptions.  See my FPL calendar article to explain this in more detail

The FA Cup quarter finals

Here’s the FA Cup qurter final draw played in a clash with GW31

Leicester City v Chelsea
Newcastle v Man City
Norwich v Man Utd
Sheffield United v Arsenal

For the sake of providing an example I’m going to assume the following teams win:

Chelsea

Man City

Man Utd

Arsenal

Those 4 teams will then play in an FA Cup semi final which clashes with GW34.

That means the following GW34 games could not be played in the weekend but could be moved to midweek

C Palace v Chelsea
Man City v Newcastle
Arsenal v Leicester
Aston Villa v Man Utd

In that scenario this is how GW34 and GW37 could look

After the semi finalists were known I then started to allocate the postponements in some sort of logical order.  GW34 has a midweek free so I pushed the weekend postponed GW34 matches into there and then tried to allocate the other postponements around them.

Here was the result.  Postponed games are in italics (even the GW34 ones pushed into midweek).  The bold headings describe the fixtures

In this scenario I could not find a home for Aston Villa v Sheffield United.  I’m assuming it would have to be snuk into one of the European weeks giving a further double gameweek.

I am no expert!

This is just me logically trying to follow through how things could look in 1 particular scenario.  There are many obviously which I haven’t run.  It’s just meant to give you an illustration of how things could work.  I had no blanks in my scenario but that’s because I started with postponing the weekend GW34 matches to midweek and worked around that

If I’ve done something wrong please tell me in the comments below and I’ll try and address/start all over again!

What does this mean?

For me it just showed what I’ve heard anecdotally which is GW34 is likely to be the smaller of the double gameweeks which means it could be easier to navigate without the Free Hit and Wildcard combination that I would have preferred to have for GW34 and GW37 but may have to use up on GW31.

Other than that it just gave some general understanding of how things could pan out.

Hopefully you found it useful in some way.
