Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv’s last 3 seasons overall ranks are 4k, 8k and 293k

Here is my first draft of my team.

I have given most of the focus on my defence as I have 2 City and 2 Liverpool defenders, as the top defensive players can get around 6 ppm , so better value for money than spend the extra money for premium attackers than probably won’t get you more than that.

So with Trip (that I hope will get back to previous season form) I have 5 premium defenders plus dunk for another playing spot.

After spending that kind of money, it left a place for one premium player and it will be only Mo for me.. as you can see each week I can play someone else as my initial squad is very balanced, I brought Perez as he is a virtual striker classified as midfielder now in Leicester city and can be a big bargain.

So that is it for now.

Good luck all!

Yaniv

Matthew Friskey

Matthews’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were an incredible 152 last season, with 286k and 147k the seasons before

Goalkeepers

With the £4.5m keeper seemingly vanishing as an option for now I don’t mind paying the extra million for a premium keeper rather than settling for a £5.0m. The £4.0m could be anyone. I’ll probably go with whoever has the lowest ownership in the hope that they don’t lose value. If a £4.5m option emerges I may change my strategy here.

Defenders

I played 442 most weeks last season and I don’t see that changing. The Liverpool players are great value so VVD and Robertson come in (I think TAA is more likely to get rotated). Laporte is great. I’d like Digne but for now I have a £4.5m rotation (the current two are just placeholders). Ake, Maguire and Gibson could come in if they move clubs. I’m struggling to see a £4.0m option this season.

Midfielders

Sterling and Salah speak for themselves and it appears worth paying the extra compared to Mane. Zaha and Richarlison have decent early fixtures but there’s a lot of good mid priced options. I’m also considering Pereyra and Siggy. Moura could start up front whilst Son is suspended so he’s interesting. I was looking at Pérez but I’m not sure he’s an option at Leicester. Dendoncker looks the best of the £4.5m‘s.

Forwards

I’ve gone for King and Calvert-Lewin (assuming he looks like being the first choice striker). Both have decent fixtures and are well priced. I like Aguero (of course!) but I think Sterling will outscore him again this season. Wickham will be third sub every week. Giroud, or whoever is the first choice forward at Chelsea, could be a bargain. Kane could be unbelievable value at £11m but he looked poor at the end of the season so I’ll avoid him for now.

I’m relatively happy with triple Liverpool and triple City but there’s bound to be an awful lot more tinkering when transfers happen and line ups become clearer during pre season. I’d be interested to see how many of these players are in my GW1 squad!

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE EARLY DRAFT TEAMS

Ben Wooton

Ben’s last 3 seasons overall ranks are 12k, 46k and 31k

I found the initial drafting a bit tough this year.  It’s early doors and i usually like to see some pre-season games first.

GKs

Anyway for GK I like to start budget & I aim to leave them in place. I have toyed with other GKs but will go Ryan for now. He averages 120 if you factor in the time out last season. Button his backup that’s cheap. Quite like Pope but there are more worries over selection.

Defence

I am going double pool. Robbo for me has less rotation risk than TAA and he’s a BP magnet. VVD just to leave. Coleman my £5.5m, good upside and fixtures.  Smith by £4.5m but could be anyone, Kelly the £4.0m with a small chance of a game early doors.

Midfield

Salah a must, slight risk due to AFCON games. KDB has a good upside if over his injuries. Fraser did well last season for me and his fixtures are kind, Perez a risk but will watch pre season. McGinn a solid promoted midfielder from Villa who should do ok if needed.

Forwards

I have Vardy as a solid if unexciting pick.  King for his pens, Giroud is a risk for 7 but can swap out easily.

At this point I am happy to sit back for a few weeks now and see what happens on the injury front.

Thanks

Ben

Kev from Canada

Kev’s last 2 seasons overall ranks are 6k and 195k

See an interview with Kev where he talks about his strategy and following the PL from Canada

Preamble

1. Defenders and Goalkeepers are a difficult find as far as value players are right now (£4.5m or less). The ones I do like have rubbish fixtures (Lascelles, etc.)

a. Brighton is the one nice cheap option based on fixtures. Ryan stands out in goal and Dunk in defence. Of course 2 BHA defenders gives me nightmares and most of us had that nightmare become a reality during the double game week last year.

b. I want Man City coverage on defence. I only trust Ederson to start at this point. It seems Walker may have some competition by the end of the transfer window, Zinchenko, Angelino and Mendy cancel each other out, no CBs are 100% in my opinion. As good as Laporte was for FPL last season, Ottamendi was in the same boat the season before and was not a staple the next year. Is Ake joining? I feel like Laporte should be nailed but I will just use my Wildcard to bring in the go to FPL man City defender when I have more info by week 4. Unless Mendy starts and puts up 20 pts I doubt we will see too much price movement in premiums early. So I can play it safe with Ederson and WC later unless something changes.

c. Based on a and b above, I will go Ederson and Dunk instead of Ryan and a City gamble on defence. This also is £0.5m cheaper than the Ryan and Laporte option.

d. Onto LFC. I want Salah, as he looks like the main Captain option over the first few weeks with that cushy schedule. So 2 for me. This has been my main tinker. I had Robbo from start to finish last season. It actually burned me, as during my final wildcard I was emotionally attached to the fact of having him all season instead of saving the £1m to go to TAA. It would have meant I went Laporte too so it probably cost me getting into the top 5K or 4K overall. Is what it is but I learned a lesson there. You can’t become emotionally attached to any investment in life. As of now I would probably go TAA over Robbo just because I think he has more upside still with age. After that I may lean to Gomez if he seems nailed by them. The clean sheets are all the same and 1m or 1.5m will help a lot with forwards and defence. Attacking returns over 4 weeks are probably not worth £1m that I need elsewhere. So VVD is likely the backup if Gomez isn’t nailed.

e. £4.0m defence spot. I am not sure there even will be one at this point, however with a 4 week wildcard plan I don’t think it matters too much. I will go with Kelly from CP based on the CB injuries they keep dealing with. Whatever. He will be my third bench.

f. Digne is probably a lock based on the fixtures and ownership. Although, I really like Azpilicueta. He is constantly in the top of defence points ranks and pretty much always plays. I prefer him to Digne overall at 6m and I could switch.

g. Things I am watching closely besides new signing are things like Tottenham’s battles on the wing. (5.5 is a nice price for Trippier but if he were to move on then whichever £5m RB that ends up being nailed will be straight in my squad), Ake’s potential move, who plays RB for Palace, will Man U and Arsenal solve their CB issues, is Burnley capable of of becoming a cheap source of clean sheets again, etc.

First draft defence

Defenders: TAA, Gomez, Digne, (Dunk, Kelly)
Goalkeepers: Ederson, (Button)

Midfield

a. LFC final spot is going to Salah for me. He is a set and forget captain until my wildcard. I may even not have a second premium until the wildcard so I can spread the Aguero/Kane/Sterling money into a deeper attacking team or to have funds available for my GW1 or GW2 transfers.

b. Because I plan to wildcard early I am going for great fixtures for the most part and Siggy will be heavily owned by WCard week4 managers like myself.

c. Pogba – he is still here as of now. Decent fixtures after Chelsea in GW1. Over 5ppg last two seasons. Penalties. Nailed.

d. Pulisic – all of the chelsea attackers seem too cheap at 7.5M and under. Someone will emerge as a star in FPL. Their fixtures to start the season until mid December are insane including 2 newly promoted teams in the first 4. I am banking Pulisic gets minutes off Willian and Pedro. We have the pre-season to know for sure.

e. Dendoncker is the best £4.5m option around in my opinion. Especially with Costa gone. The Wolves fixtures suck to start the season. This guy might tuck a sneaky goal in as an enabler though and get me two price rises. He has high enough ownership that I am not that worried about him if he doesn’t.

f. Things I am watching: if Pogba goes I may move him to Dilva. It sounds odd as everyone loves Bilva right now. Dilva tied Bilva with 4.3 pts per match and the season before had 5.8 ppm. He is the cheapest way into City and being named Captain only helps his gametime. He still plays for Pep though so I don’t love it. Also watching for Tielemans’ price. I would like a 6.5m player I like. Brooks is right there for me. His points per minutes is really nice, he is young, has fixtures and would save me £1m or £2m over Pusilic or Pogba.

So first draft midfield becomes Salah, Pogba, Pulisic, Sigurdson, (Dendoncker)

Forwards

a. As much as at first glance I felt Kane and Auba were too cheap and I love Aguero… this is the best place to find value in my opinion. Wow, Jimenez £7.5m, Jota, Deulofeu, Deeney, King all £6.5m. That is better than the £6.5m midfielders and better than the value defenders. I am really tempted to save the £4.5-£5.5m and roll with three of those names.

b. I would actually like to fade the Wolves here. Jiminez and Jota ownership is high, their prices are low, but their fixtures suck for 4 weeks. I know they can score on anyone but I have a 4 week WC. Their prices shouldn’t get away from me. Jimenez is turning into a Superstar though. He is already FPL darling and that price for him and Jota are the biggest misprices in the game. No respect!

c. I will be watching Chelsea in preseason here. Again, £7m for Giroud. If he starts regularly at £7m hes in. I’m also watching Andone for BHA, Calvert Lewin, and Greenwood. Also, quick note on Southampton. They signed another striker? I was already gambling on who was going to start. I am avoiding.

So first draft forwards become King, Deulofeu, Jota

Last note

I have 2.5M in the bank. My feeling is I have a great squad. Could I change Pulisic and Pogba to Brooks and Sterling and have 0 itb? Yup. Maybe I will do that on my wildcard. I feel there is always a breakout player in the first few weeks (Richarlison last season) and I want the flexibility to get him at a low price without a hit. I can get anyone in pretty much with the exception of a £9.5m or higher Fwd without taking a hit week 1. I love my team as is. If I need to change Gomez I will downgrade Pulisic to Brooks and rock VVD or something. I would rather not use my cash itb though. I think the first few weeks can be key to gain some team value while still scoring relatively well.
