fantasy premier League – the early GW27 bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view of the fantasy premier league bandwagons and sinking ships for GW27 up coming.  If your’e not familiar these are the 5  most transferred in and the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek.  Remember its an FA Cup weekend and there are European games next week so all early transfers carry that extra injury risk.  Also remember that in GW28 Man Utd, Man City, Sunderland and WBA don’t play in GW28 so factor that in as well

Fantasy Premier League Bandwagons

Adebayor

with 2 goals and an assist away from home you’re bound to get some attention.  He’s had twice the transfers in of any other player.  8 goals and 4 assists in 10 games since coming into the team when Sherwood took over as manager.  Returned in 7 of those 10 games so very consistent.  Underlying shooting and creating chances stats are pretty ordinary but seems to have a knack for getting in good positions and scoring as the game against Newcastle showed.  Only downside is that after 2 pretty good fixtures they get a little tough

Sturridge

The issue with most people for Sturridge has been doubling up with Suarez who’s been a must have.  I can see that and as a general rule I like to spread the risk as well.  However it’s impossible to ignore Sturridges consistency.  He’s returned in an incredible 15 out of 18 games.  Since coming back from injury in 6 games he’s scored  7 goals and 3 assists.  Doubling up or not it’s impossible to ignore.  There’s some good fixtures in the next 6 not that it seems to matter who they play at the moment.

Ivanovic

Make no mistake, in my mind a Chelsea defender is a must have for your defence even if they look more vulnerable without Terry.  Ivanovic is the man of the moment with 2 goals and an assist in his last 3 games.  They were the first attacking returns though since GW1 alhough he has always been an attacking threat the returns have just come like buses.  Terry has probably been the most consistent attacking threat and bonus magnet although that has dried up with 4 bonus points and no attacking returns since GW14.  So it depends on whether you want to pay extra for the attacking potential and gametime security rather than the more budget friendly Azpilicueta and Cahill

James Collins

After an incredible 4 clean sheets in a row and a goal in the win at Norwich its no surprise to see Collins in here especially at his price of £4.2m.  West Ham agains do look a more solid defensive unit now that injuries have cleared up.  The issue with Collins is that now that Reid is fit although he’s been on the bench it’s hard not to see him coming back into the team.  That will mean Collins or Tomkins making way.  Eariler on in the season Big Sam made his choice clear that it was Tomkins.  With their being a new signing at LB the only West Ham defensive players without gametime risk at the moment are RB Demel at £4.5m and GK Adrian at £4.4m.  I’d be a little wary of Collins myself but the West Ham defence seems worth investing in

Gerrard

Mr Consistency does it again with a goal from the spot and a fantastic pass from deep for Sturridge.  If you strip out his first 5 fixtures he’s incredibly returned in 14 from 17 games.  All playing as a CDM in the double pivot.  The returns are from set pieces and pens and there’s nothing to suggest with Suarez Sturridge and Sterling offering the penalty threat and Skrtel the set pieces that this wont continue.  But can you really have 3 Liverpool players and 30% odd of your squad value in 3 players if you also believe Sturridge at only just over £1m more is also viable?

Fantasy Premier League Sinking Ships

John Terry

This is one of the main sources for the Ivanovic money.  Back for GW27 and will be rested for the FA Cup if not the Champions League.  A Chelsea defender seems essential to me and despite a cooling off of attacking returns and bonus points as mentioned in the Ivanovic bit above he still seems a solid selection to me.  Looks the best threat at set pieces and in the early part of the season showed real bonus potential.

Giroud

Seems to have returned to that person who has loads of chances but can’t seem to convert.  On average has as many shots in the box as Sturridge but no where near the finisher as we saw in the Man Utd game.  Only 2 games without returning after a very good patch of returning in 5 of his last 6.  Seems a bit harsh with the next 3 fixtures coming up

Rodriguez

You don’t return in 2 consecutive games and you’re unceremoniously dumped even after returning in 3 consecutive games prior to that.  Again seems pretty harsh.  Fixtures are a little mixed but certainly not horrendous.  Again this is another source of where the Adebayor money will be funded from.  Not sure I would be that desperate to sell him as certainly one of the best ways to get funds to invest in your midfield

Dzeko

With Man City home to Stoke next and Aguero not expected back for that game there is no way I would be selling Dzeko.  Obviously wont be playing in GW28 but I would be looking for other alternatives before selling even with the gametime risk.

Rooney

There surely has to be a better solution to Uniteds problems than Rooney playing as a CM.  A waste of goalscoring talent totally. Obviously there’s the overlap with Mata but City accomodate Silva coming in from the left and have a striker who also drops off in the form of Aguero and Jovetic.  This really makes him a totally unviable fantasy premier league asset.  Add to that Mata taking part in set pieces and RVP taking pens then it’s hard to see any attraction at the moment.  It seems almost incidental to add that he hasn’t returned in 5 games and United don’t play in GW28
