Fantasy Premier League: Five Players Who MUST Feature In Your 2018/19 Team

The 2018/19 Premier League season gets underway this month and fantasy football players from across the world will be selecting their side ahead of the opening weekend. We look at five players who simply have to feature in your fantasy squad for the upcoming campaign…

Raheem Sterling

Sterling failed to inspire confidence at the World Cup 2018 but he should bounce back for Manchester City this season. According to WhoScored, he notched 18 goals and 11 assists in 33 Premier League appearances last campaign and a similar return is expected in 2018/19.

Only Mohamed Salah (303) racked up more fantasy points than Sterling (229) last year and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the City man rank highly once again. Still regarded as a midfielder in terms of scoring, Sterling should flourish in most fantasy formats.

Jamaal Lascelles

Costing just £5 million on the official FPL game, Lascelles is well worth taking. The Newcastle United captain will be an ever-present in 2018/19 if he stays fit and a much-improved season is expected for Rafa Benitez’s men. The 24-year-old is maturing into a top defensive option at Premier League level.

He notched three goals and helped Newcastle to nine clean sheets last season – recording well over 100 fantasy points. Lascelles was the highest scoring £5 million defender with 116 points and he could be set for another instrumental campaign at St James’ Park.

Allison Becker

The most expensive goalkeeper of all-time, Allison can be Liverpool’s difference maker this season. The former Roma man has the skillset to succeed in England’s top flight and Jurgen Klopp’s side should go close in their pursuit of Premier League glory. As of August 6th, Liverpool are 4/1 in Premier League betting odds and plenty of punters will be backing Klopp’s men ahead of the opening weekend. If nothing else, Allison should help the Reds to enjoy a more reliable season defensively and £5.5 million is a decent price for the Brazil star.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Watch this space; Aubameyang could finish the 2018/19 campaign as the Premier League’s top goal scorer. The former Borussia Dortmund man bagged 10 goals in 13 league games after moving to England’s top flight in January and he looks primed for a huge season.

Arsenal will need Aubameyang to be at his brilliant best if they are to stand any chance of snatching a top-four berth. The Gunners were disappointing for large parts of last season and Aubameyang can help fire Arsenal back to the Champions League – only a fool would write him off.

Marko Arnautovic

Manuel Pellegrini has had an immediate impact at West Ham United and Arnautovic could be the main beneficiary. The likes of Jack Wilshere and Felipe Anderson should offer more creativity in the final third and Arnautovic may see more clear-cut opportunities fall his way.

Arnautovic finished as the sixth highest scoring forward in 2017/18 but he was by far the best in terms of value. With an average cost of £10.4 million, those five players are much dearer than £7-million-man Arnautovic. The Hammers striker will be key throughout the entire 2018/19 campaign.
