Brentford 1 Bournemouth 3
Goals: Surridge Solanke Ibe
Cherries: Travers; Stacey, Mepham, Butcher (Cordner, 77), Ake, Rico; Lerma (Sherring, 86), Kilkenny (Anthony, 86); Brooks (Surridge, 71), Ibe, Solanke. Unused sub: Dennis (g/k).
Another mixed team and nothing to give us clue about a GW1 lineup. Thanks Eddie
Here’s a local paper report and a you tube video.
Charlton 1 Aston Villa 4
Goals: McGinn 2, Green, El Ghazi
VILLA: Steer, Elmohamady (Guilbert HT), Konsa (Hause 66), Mings, Taylor (Targett 66), Hourihane (Lansbury 66), McGinn, Grealish, El Ghazi (Jota HT), Trezeguet (Green HT), Davis (Hogan 66).
SUBS: Kalinic, Bree, Engels.
Apart from not having new signing Wesley up front this could be a full strength team. Unless Smith plays a 4-2-3-1 then one of £5.5m Trezeguet, £5.5m ElGhazi or £6.0m Jota could miss out in a front 3. They represent the value although at £5.5m you’d want them to play every week which is a big ask
Here’s a local paper report and a youtube video
Birmingham 0 Brighton 4
Goals: Duffy 2, Locadia, Murray
Brighton: Ryan; Duffy, Dunk, Burn, Montoya, Stephens, Propper (Alzate 67), Trossard, March, Locadia, Murray (Andone 67)
Subs not used: Button, Bong, Kayal, Sanders, Gross, Jahanbakhsh, Baluta, Clarke, Bernado
Having played 4-2-3-1 for pre-season Potter played 3-4-3 which meant a front 3 of £6.0m Trossard, £6.0m fwd Murray and £5.5m Locadia. If he continues with 3-4-3 this could easily be the team.
Stephens is one safe option for a £4.5m mid and he played. Burn was the surprise inclusion resulting from the formation change. He isn’t in FPL but given every defender is £4.5m I imagine he would be the same. No £4.5m Kayal or £5.5m Jahanbkhsh. £5.0m def Duffy shows his scoring ability. However I’m dubious about Brighton’s clean sheet potential.
Here’s a fanzine report, and the Brighton club report. Cant find a youtube video unfortunately
Burnley 2 Wigan 2
Goals; McNeil Rodriguez
Burnley: Heaton; Lowton (Bardsley 61), Tarkowski, Mee (Long 61), Taylor (Pieters 70); Gudmundsson, Westwood (Hendrick 70), Cork, McNeil (Lennon 70); Rodriguez (Vydra 79), Barnes (Wood 61). Subs: Hart, Younger.
So a strong side which makes the inclusion of £4.5m Heaton over £4.5m Pope a bit troubling. £6.5m fwd Wood didn’t start either but it seems highly unlikely he won’t. Both £4.5m defs in Taylor and Lowton started which is good news.
Good performances from the £6.0m trio of fwd Rodriguez and mids McNeil and Gudmundsson although Wood slotting back in makes Rodriguez uncertain without a position or formation change.
Here’s a local paper report and again couldn’t find a youtube video
Bristol City 0 C Palace 5
Townsend, Schlupp, Benteke, Meyer Wickham, Schlupp
Palace: Guaita, Van Aanholt, Dann (Sakho 71), Kelly (Woods 81), Ward, Meyer, Milivojevic (Dreher 81), McArthur (Riedewald 81), Townsend, Schlupp (Ayew 45), Benteke (Wickham 66)
Subs not used: Henderson, Sorloth
Another strong lineup and this looks close to a starting 11. The bad news from the £4.0m Def Kelly point of view is the appearance of Sakho of the bench. I personally feel that Kelly will be the victim of a fit Sakho rather than Dann. £5.5m mid Meyer started and played well but with no Zaha at the moment means he is a potential drop out if Zaha doesn’t move.
£4.5m forward Wickham came on as a sub and despite a goal is still behind Benteke at the moment.
Here’s the Palace report
Everton 0 Sevilla 1
Everton team (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Digne, Holgate, Mina, Coleman; Gomes, Delph; Bernard, Sigurðsson, Walcott; Calvert-Lewin.
A full strength team apart from the injured Keane who was replaced by Holgate (not on the FPL site) and COPA America delayed Richarlison who would take the place of Walcott I suspect. Delph is in as Gueye looks certain to leave.
The game wouldn’t have inspired any confidence in Everton with £6.0m fwd Calvert Lewin poor as well missing badly a couple of great chances. Holegate gave away the penalty to lose the game and the lack of Gueye was very apparent.
Here’s a fanzine report and a youtube video
Stoke 1 Leicester 2
Goals: Tielemans Albrighton
Goals: Tielmans and Albrighton
City (4-1-2-1-2) : Schmeichel; Ricardo, Evans, Maguire, Chilwell; Choudhury; Tielemans, Albrighton (Leshabela, 76); Maddison; Perez, Vardy.
Unused subs : Johansson, Elder, Benkovic, Diabate, Thomas.
This looks like a full strength team with the exception of AFCON rested Ndidi as the CDM. £6.5m Mid Perez played as Vardy’s strike partner which is interesting and £5.5m Albrighton is the cheaper of the 4 mids. The formation involved a midfield diamond with £7.0m Maddison at the tip. So positionally at least Maddison and Perez come out ahead of Tielemans from this game. I think it’s fair that even in Rodgers much used 4-1-4-1 then Perez will tuck in and become a support type striker as he did with Newcastle. Certainly Pereira has the ability to provide the width to allow him to do this
The Leicester defence looked a bit shaky and the game was very wide open. Pereira was fantastic down the right getting forward and putting crosses in. Vardy was strangely poor with the chances he had.
Here’s a local paper report and a good you tube video
