fantasy premier league game week 10 – Sunday’s game analysis

Gameweek analysis

Here’s the fantasy premier league analysis of the Sunday games in game week 10

QPR 1 Reading 1

A couple of surprises in the QPR team with Cisse coming in and Zamora starting on the bench.  Mackie also started with SWP starting from the bench.

Reading started at CB with Morrison who is  in the team ahead of Pearce who was on the bench and Mariappa who wasn’t even in the squad.  The midfield continues to be fiddled around with and this time it was Leigert, McAnuff, Tabb and McLeary.  Guthrie wasn’t even on the bench.  Hunt and Roberts started up front.  It seems everyone except 4/5ths of the  defence was made to suffer for the Capital One Fiasco.

QPR started slowly and then came back in to the game.  It ended like a free for all and Taarabt missed a golden opportunity to win it.  QPR were totally unable to handle any set pieces and it was no surprise Gorkss scored, just a surprise that Morrison didn’t as well.  I dread to think what will happen when Charlie Adam is whipping in corners and free kicks.

Possession was 55% to QPR and shots were 23/12 to 18/8.  Neither defence performed well but the QPR defence was statistically a disaster and inspires no confidence.

Taarabt as usual had the most shots by a country mile but with a very low in the box%.  Cisse and Hunt probably had the best stats.  Shorey led the chances created column by some distance with Cisse and Granero next.  Taarabt and McAnuff were the most forward midfielders for QPR and Reading respectively.  Taarabt and Hunt were the most involved players in the attacking areas.

For QPR no one moved ahead in fantasy premier league rankings.  The defence looks far from anything other than a cheap filler with no attacking potential.  The 2 players of potential in midfield in Taarabt and Hoilett are only just getting game time.  Taarabt continues to shoot wastefully and Hoilett didnt replicate some of his form which has him on the edge of the leading midfield shooting stats.  Upfront is a total waste of time and despite excellent fixtures should be left alone.  To me the only options really are Taarabt and Hoilett and maybe Nelsen as cheap filler only.

The prospects for Reading are little better.  The defence is a total disaster although it performed far better today against a pretty ordinary attack.  Gorkss and Shrey at least offer the chance of attacking returns.  In midfield no one is worth investing due to lack of game time or attacking intent  except McAnuff who is an assist based player creating chances for unreliable attacking players.  Up front even cheapie Pogrebnyak doesn’t seem to be able to secure is place.  There’s bound to be a rush for Gorkss with his 11 point haul but the reality of the defence is that it just wont return.

The irony is that both teams have good fixtures but the only players worth even considering investing in both teams are Tarrabt Hoilett and McAnuff plus Gorkss/Shorey and Nelsen if you’re looking for cheap defensive fillers.

Liverpool 1 Newcastle 1

With Johnson still injured the Defence kept cheapie Wisdom in.  The fixtures give little opportunity to jump on board though until after the next game week.  The midfield contained no surprises.

For Newcastle Demba Ba started with Cisse upfront instead of Ameobi.  The midfield saw Perch take the place of Tiote  and Anita played RB instead of Simpson. Taylor came in for Williamson after Williamson initially held his place after Taylors return.

Liverpool started strongly but Newcastle slowly got back in to the game and scored through the unlikely Cabaye.  Suarez eventually equalised and in the end after Coloccinis sending off Liverpool were by far the more likely winners.

Possession was 59% Liverpool with shots 20/12 to 10/3.  The Liverpool defence performed very well and come good fixtures there will definitely be clean sheets.  Newcastle’s defence was statistically  poor.

There are very few games that Surez doesn’t lead the shot stats and here he totally monstered them.  Next best was surprisingly Shelvey who missed a sitter. Suarez killed the chances created column.  Sterling was the most forward midfielder for Liverpool and HBA for Newcastle.  Suarez was the most involved player in the attacking areas for Liverpool with Sterling close behind.  Cisse for Newcastle.

Luis Suarez was absolutely fantastic for Liverpool.  He’s top of the shooting stats for strikers by a mile and I’ve always said that if he could actually finish he would be one of the worlds best strikers.  Today he could finish.  He’s now returned in 4 of his last 5 games but you still worry about whether you could safely give him the captain armband.  After the away game to Chelsea in game week 11 the fixtures suddenly get alot easier and he then becomes a serious contender for your fantasy premier league team.  Sterling is the other fantasy premier league option for Liverpool mainly due to his price. He isn’t a consistent performer but is great value.  In defence Agger at £5.9m is probably the best option in Johnsons absence.  The issue with cheapie Wisdom is what happens when Johnson returns.  Does he or Enrique go to the bench.

For Newcastle the fixtures are very good, continuing with West Ham at home in GW11.  In attack Ba is the only real option despite his lack lustre display today in everything apart from defence.  To be fair though he didnt look fit.  The other option is HBA , its just that he suffers from too much shooting from distance ad with not enough regularity.  I’m not a fan of the defence and today didnt help the situation.  Really the only option now with value and game time secuirty is Santon at £5.0m

Looking forward to WBA and Saints tomorrow even though I have no players.  Watch out for Lukaku if he starts , it could be a blood bath.
