fantasy premier league game week 10 – WBA v Southampton analysis

Gameweek analysis

Here’s the fantasy premier league analysis of the WBA v Saints game of Monday game week 10

 WBA 2 Southampton 0

WBA lined up in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Jones returning at RB to replace Tamas.  Yacob and Mulumbu screened behind Gera who replaced the injured Morrison plus Odemwingie and Dorrans.  Long started instead of Lukaku.

For Southampton Yoshida started instead of Hooiveld.  Ramirez started in midfield after recovering from injury.  Lambert and Rodriguez started up front.

Southampton had alot of the ball but possession counted for nothing and WBA were very difficult to break down, held their line relatively deep and pressed when Saints got in to the attacking areas.

In the end the win and clean sheet was no surprise.

Possession was 53% to Saints, shots 16/6 to 9/5 to WBA.  The Saints defence performed relatively well but the WBA defence was excellent.

Odemwingie amd Lambert led the shooting stats.  The chances created column was led by Mulumbu followed by Long and Odemwingie.

Gera was the most advanced midfielder for WBA, Lallana for Southampton.  The most involved players in the attacking areas for each team were Lallana and Gera.

For WBA the star performer was Odemwingie.  There’s nothing particularly attractive about WBA’s fixtures and with Odemwingie relatively expensively priced at £6.9m and classified as a striker compared to Long at £6.1m.  The defence looked strong tonight but generally statistically hasn’t performed well  home or away despite the 4 clean sheets and I personally with that, coupled with the fixtures, wont be buying.  If youre dead set though Olsson at £5.0m is the best bet.  Ridgewell at the same price has more attacking potential but has some game time risk with Popov at the club.

For Saints the defence is hopeless although Fonte and Clyne give you a cheap filler with some attacking return potential and in the short term good fixtures.  Lallana and Lambert still remain the best options although both were quiet tonight, Lallana especially.  I wouldnt use a striking spot on Lambert given the other options so Lallana is the only player I would consider.  The much vaunted record signing of Ramirez was absolutely  terrible in contrast to his excellent game a month or so against Everton.  It could have been the month without playing.  With Swansea, QPR, Norwich and Reading in the next 6 one of the 3 is worth the gamble.

On to game week 11.  Hope all fantasy football geeks had a good fantasy premier league game week 10
