FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GAMEWEEK 11 TIPS – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek

KEY:

PPM: FPL Points per match
Consistency: the % of games that a player gets a goal or assist
Fixt ease: The ease of the next 6 and 3 fixtures (6/3) coming up. The lower the better fixtures
ICT PM: The ICT scores per match. These are taken from the FPL website and are there to represent the players underlying stats. I is influence, C creativity and T threat. The underlying stats that will represent the possibility of a goal or assist
Last 4: The last 4 matches played and the % of games that the player gets a goal or assist
ATGS odds: The anytime goalscoring odds for the next match from 1 bookie. Its £’s return for £1 invested

GUNDOGAN

2 goals and an assist against WBA and then 2 goals against Barca are some stats as a £5.6m midfielder playing for the premier league favourites.  Man City have played a number of formations but in the 4-1-4-1 system, as it was for GW10, he plays as part of the central 2 midfielders. On the positive side, although I didn’t see the Barca game, in the game against WBA he certainly played reasonably forward and combined that with an excellent ability to arrive in the box at the right time.  Also while De Bruyne didn’t start  nothing changed when he came on.  £5.6m for a Man City mid is a bargain so the downside is limited especially with the next 3 fixtures.  On the negative side he will, like all the Man City players, suffer rotation.  He also doesn’t have a great historic record.  A goal or assist in the Bundesliga every 336 minutes doesn’t inspire confidence.

NEXT 6 FIXTURES

Middlesbrough (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Burnley (A)
Chelsea (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)

COUTINHO

2 assists vs Crystal Palace for the Liverpool mid continue his great recent form.  That now makes it 4 goals and 5 assists as he continues in the bandwagon category from last week.  He has very good underlying stats too so his returns are no fluke. Also has good set piece representation. Plus no European football so rotation is minimal.   I’d like to come up with some negatives to balance it out but the only one is the sharing round of returns of the 3 attacking midfielders.  However given the goal scoring form of Liverpool there appears to be more than enough to go round.

Next 6 fixtures

Watford (H)
Southampton (A)
Sunderland (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Ham (H)
Middlesbrough (A)

ALLEN

The cheapie midfielders just keep coming out of the woodwork.  First Capoue , then Allen and Gundogan.  At the moment Allen has the CAM position and some recent good underlying stats plus some good fixtures coming up to make him a serious option.  The negative of the lack of historical back up is always going to cast doubt going forward.  However come on,  he is only £5.2m

West Ham (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)
Burnley (H)
Arsenal (A)
Southampton (H)

AGUERO

Ah how easily a 2 goal scoring spree can turn last weeks sinking ship into a bandwagon.  Really,  what was all the fuss about?  I have to admit though even I was thinking about a 1 game swap with Ibra as the negative chat was everywhere.  However form is temporary, class is permanent and this is world class.  The class is backed up by arguably the best underlying stats of any striker.  Also has pens.

Middlesbrough (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Burnley (A)
Chelsea (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)

HAZARD

Is the Chelsea midfielder the ultimate FPL tease?  Starts the season with 3 consecutive returns.  Follows it up with 4 consecutive blanks and then follows that with 3 consecutive returns again.  I guess he, at least, has the decency to make the underlying stats follow that pattern too .  The positive sides are that it does seem that the change of system that has turned around the defence after the 0-3 Arsenal debacle has also transformed Hazards prospects.   The other positive is his penalty duties.  The fixtures and the whole reality or mirage thing are the negatives.

Everton (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Spurs (H)
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)
Sunderland (A)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek

IBRAHIMOVIC

Seems to have taken the Negredo position of a permanent place in the sinking ship category.  How the Man Utd striker didn’t score against Burnley is beyond me though. However, no returns in his last 5 games are the bare facts.  All his 4 goals and 1 assist have come from the first 5 games.  If you’re looking for positives his underlying shooting stats are fantastic and he has pen duties.  Surely it has to go in soon and you kind of think a goal explosion has to be around the corner.  However I’ve probably been saying that in every sinking ship article on him

Swansea (A)
Arsenal (H)
West Ham (H)
Everton (A)
Spurs (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

WALCOTT

The Arsenal midfielders transfers out have to be related to his injury.  Thats a little premature as it appears he could be fit for the weekend.  However if you’re going to exit the Spurs and Man Utd defence next is as good a time as any to do so.  Some facts though.  5 goals and 3 assists in 9 games this season.  A goal or assist in 6 of those 9 games and arguably the best underlying stats of any midfielder.  Thats some transfer out.

Spurs (H)
Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
West Ham (A)
Stoke (H)
Everton (A)

VALENCIA

Last week CB Bailly was injured, out to Boxing day and joined the sinking ship club.  This week its the attacking RB in Valencia who has a broken arm and no return date as yet.  Smalling also has a foot injury with no return date.  £5.0m Darmian replaced Valencia this weekend and will probably do so in the future.  He’s a bargain at that price.  It’s just how negatively the defence will be affected shorn of 3 of it’s first choice lineup.  However of you’re gambling there are worse times to do so than away to Swansea

Swansea (A)
Arsenal (H)
West Ham (H)
Everton (A)
Spurs (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

HM SON

4 goals and 2 assists in 7 games mean nothing when you’ve blanked in your last 3.  It could be brushed under the carpet if the underlying stats were ok but they really aren’t recently.  Add to that the imminent return of Harry Kane means no chance as a striker and Dembele could see 3 attacking midfielders return rather than 4.  That will mean it’s him Lamela or Sissoko not 2 of them 3.  If you’re jumping ship then away to Arsenal is as good a time as any to do so.

Arsenal (A)
West Ham (H)
Chelsea (A)
Swansea (H)
Man Utd (A)
Hull (H)

STERLING

If you’ve had no returns in your last 4 games as an attacking midfielder for Man City then you’ve either been incredibly unlucky or incredibly poor.  The complete lack of underlying stats over those 4 games suggest the latter.  To be fair there were some shoots of recovery against WBA but it doesn’t mask the overall picture.  Now Middlesboro have been one of the pleasant surprises defensively this season.  However whether I would sell a City player before that home game is another question

Middlesbrough (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Burnley (A)
Chelsea (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)
