Fantasy premier league gameweek 33 – “ones to watch” – forwards

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s my Barclays fantasy premier league gameweek 33 “ones to watch” for forwards.  This is a menu of players for your fantasy premier league team.  Remember its not just for this gameweek but as if you were putting them in to your team this week

1.  Suarez

Underlying stats ranking:  1  Fixture ease 8     points in last 3 starts:  9

has just mellowed in returns in the last 3 games, 2 interestingly where sturridge has been relegated to the bench.  however underlying stats have not flinched so there’s no reason to lose the faith.  Creating chances in the last 6 games have also dropped off.  I’m keeping the faith and with an away game to reading next no one in their right mind should be selling him.  He’s capable of double digit  returns anytime he faces poor opposition and this is one such chance.  A must have in my mind DGW or not.  Sturridge fall out seems to have at least for the moment kept him the most furtherest forward player which means he gets the tap ins as well as the great goals.

2.  RVP

Underlying stats ranking:  2  Fixture ease 1  DGW    points in last 3 starts:  11

Afetr the City game thats 4 starts without a goal although as he also creates chances he’s had 2 assists thrown in there.  Has many a doubter and this has been made worse by the fact   didn’t score in back to back games against Reading and Sunderland.  However while the underlying stats aren’t as imperious as last season he still features in each category and his high on target % is higher than anyone else in the top 10 shooting stats for the season.  He also produces assists and is third in the creating chances table.  In 32 games he’s returned in all but 8 even if you count sub appearances and has never gone more than 2 games without returning.  However 11 from the last 3 considering the opposition is poor no doubt about it.  However you discount him at your peril and for me he is a must have until United win the title and a very real captain option for DGW33.

3.  Giroud

Underlying stats ranking:  4  Fixture ease 3 DGW     points in last 3 starts:  13

Failed against WBA but so did everyone else in the Arsenal team and I’m putting that game in a different place than the 2 home games to come.  Well placed in the shooting stats but doesn’t return assists like those above him.  Again last 3 starts could have been better considering the opposition but was top goal scorer in France and with the DGW and remaining fixtures has the potential to produce double digit returns. His main problem has been his on target % which over the season is the worst of the top 10 season shooting stats.  Thats principally because alot of his shots tend to be headers which distorts the figures.  Has to be considered due to the uncertainty over the arsenal midfield line up.  Not a must have but certainly a buy I would endorse.

4.  Berbatov

Underlying stats ranking: – Fixture ease 4 DGW     points in last 3 starts: 24

Great recent form but to me he’s been over producing on his underlying stats with an unsustainable on target % and he was predicatbly quiet away to Newcastle.  Neither game is particulalry easy in the DGW but the sheer quality of the guy means to me he’s a great buy for the double gameweek

5.   Aguero

Underlying stats ranking: –  Fixture ease 2      points in last 3 starts:  11

Showed what he can do when coming on as sub.  Once fit he will be the striker who plays to the rest of the season and even if he doesnt start against Wigan he’s a good bet for points as an impact player.  The last 3 games started included Liverpool Chelsea and Southampton A so should be taken with a pinch of salt.  Here yore banking on quality and fixtures.

6.  Benteke

Underlying stats ranking: 3  Fixture ease 10     points in last 3 starts:  20

Scored in each of his last 4 starts and has performed well in all the underlying stats.  A player highly involved in the game for Aston Villa who can score against anyone.

7.  Rodriguez

Underlying stats ranking: 7  Fixture ease 5     points in last 3 starts:  30

Has been on fire recently since being made a fixture in Pochettino and has far out performed Lambert in the shooting stats department although Lambert does have the advantage of pens set pieces and assists in his locker.  For me the better option though and with good fixtures a good option to create cash for your midfield

Some fixture Punts

Here’s a couple of players not figuring significantly in the underlying stats tables but who have good fixtures

Rooney

Underlying stats ranking:   – Fixture ease 1  DGW   points in last 3 starts:  24

Seems incredibly disrespectful to be putting someone of his quality, whos got 24 points in his last 3 starts and 47 in his last 6 in the “fixture punt” section.  Its like putting Monet in the “landscape” section of the gallery.  It also seems a little churlish to talk about underlying stats when you know about his quality and his ability to get incredible returns against poor opposition.  Its whether you want to have him instead of RVP and whether you think the selection issues are behind him (as he hasn’t started 3 of the last 9)  If RVP was still at Arsenal he would probably be in all our teams.  Personally I’m staying with RVP but I wouldn’t criticise anyone making the change

Mirallas and Anichebe

Underlying stats ranking:   – Fixture ease 7  DGW   points in last 3 starts:  17 and 9

neither have shown up in the shooting stats although Mirallas has been a sensation in recent games.  The QPR game makes every Everton player attractive.  Anichebe may have some gametime issues when Fellaini returns as you do then up with 2 big men up front.  Mirallas will play in my mind but I still theni there are better options than him for your striking positions

Budget options under £5.2m

Weiman – consistent starter and with 15 points in his last 3 is really producing

Vaz Te – Started the last 3 and returned 9 points.  Has potential but still a gametime risk

Ruiz – shunted everywhere position wise but where he played last game behind Berba should give the odd assist although only returned twice in his last 13 so a definite risk
