Fantasy Premier League gameweek 33 tips – my imaginary wildcard

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our imaginary wildcard article where we pretend that we have a wildcard to give you some selection ideas for the gameweeks ahead rather than just the next gameweek as some sites do.  I wouldn’t recommend using a wildcard now if you’ve got one, using it for DGW34 makes more sense

Fantasy Premier League gameweek 33 tips – my imaginary wildcard

So firstly here’s our imaginary wildcard team.  It’s been set up to have 3 players on the bench for the blank GW33 and maximising as far as possible players for DGW34.  I’ll go through the team giving some detail as I haven’t had time for the “ones to watch” articles recently.  I’ve tried to balance out attacking premium/gametime security/value in my selections and the teams value is approximately just over £103m.  Thats hopefully affordable for most people

Just to remind you that Liverpool and Hull have a blank GW33 and a DGW34.  Arsenal and Sunderland have a blank GW33 and a DGW37.  QPR and Aston Villa have a blank GW33.  Chelsea and Leicester have a DGW34 and play in GW33.

The Goalkeepers

I did think whether I wanted the Leicester GK Schmeicel for their DGW34 save points but in the end the value of Southamptons £4.5m GK Davis and WBA’s£4.1m Myhill are just too good value to be ignored and are my first choice.

Defence

With Arsenal having a DGW37 I’ve used one of the sub places for an Arsenal player to get started on having 3 Arsenal players for that gameweek.  Unfortunately given the rotation possibilities I’ve had to go for the most expensive option in £6.0m Koscielny. Arsenal GK Ospina is another way of getting coverage but you have to sacrifice one of the 2 other GKs.  With 3 clean sheets in the last 5 Liverpool are worth having coverage in defence.  Skrtel at £5.9m is the safest option but to save cash I’ve gone for Moreno at £5.3m who’s started 13 of the last 14 games.  I’ve gone for Leicesters Schlupp as a £4.5m attacking cheapie to cope with the blank GW33 and have a DGW34.

Chelsea and Southampton are the top coverage teams and in Southamptons case even worth the double up as they have good fixtures and are excellent defensively especially at home.  I’ve gone for value in Terry at £6.8m as no one cheaper is safe and Alderweireld for Southampton at £4.8m.  If you’re rolling in cash you may want to go for Ivanovic and Bertrand who are better attacking options but more expensive at £7.7m and £5.9m respectively

Midfield

Sterling is my Liverpool attacking pick at £8.5m.  I prefer him to Coutinho as I think as long as positionally he is in an attacking position then he’s the better shooting and goal scoring option.  With Sterling playing in a front 3 against Newcastle that gives me hope he will do so in DGW34.  Although given the tinkering and injuries Rodgers does thats not without risk and the FA Cup semi final may give us more clues.  Hazard and Silva are the high ownership (among active players)  form options which are essential for my team going forward.  Hazard is also the obvious DGW34 captain option.  Cambiasso is the only reliable Leicester midfield selection option as a cheapie 5th midfielder to take the place of Sterling who will be on the bench for GW33.  Finally I’ve gone for Fellaini at £6.4m as a bit of a gamble for the weeks ahead.  He doesn’t have fixtures but does have form with 2 goals and an assist in the last 4.  He also has an advanced attacking position and is a focal point with Wayne Rooney of the attack for United.  However if you want to maximise Liverpoolplayers you may want to drop the Arsenal defender and go for Henderson at £6.7m.  I’m a little sceptical that he can continue the form given that he’s box to box rather than an advanced player but he does have pens when Gerrard isn’t on the pitch.  Or Coutinho at £7.9m if you’re rolling in cash.

Forwards

I’ve stuck with Aguero and Kane principally due to form, fixtures and active player ownership for Aguero.  For Kane it’s still about ownership even though some parts of his form (no returns in his last 2) and his underlying stats make him questionable by some FPL managers which could see sales easing the ownership risk.

My last choice is a gamble on Remy’s fitness for GW33 and Diego Costa not being fit for DGW34.  Remy at £7.2m is great value and is the natural choice for Costa’s replacement.  2 goals in his last 2 games show’s his form

Thats it.  Hope you found it useful
