The Bandwagons

Diego Costa (10.8m)

With 7 goals in 4 games he’s top scorer in the premier league and has scored in every game giving him a 100% return rate so far this season.  It’s no fluke either as he’s top of the shots in the box and the pen box touches stat so far as well.  If you aren’t one of the 52% who own him then now away to City is probably the toughest time to buy him. Fixtures are a bit mixed as well.  However the ownership for me makes him essential whatever you think

Next 6 fixtures:

Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Man Utd (A)
QPR (H)

Di Maria (9.6m)

Not another premium midfielder we have to fit into our team?  A goal and an assist plus the bonus points gave him a 14 point haul against QPR.  Playing on the left side of a midfield diamond he was fantastic picking the ball up and running.  Like Fabregas currently, Di Maria’s record in Madrid suggests he’s mopre of an assist based player than a goal threat.  We shouldn’t expect him to replicate the free kick goal again anytime soon.  He had little shot threat and no pen box touches which says alot as well about his goal threat.  However it’s working for Fabregas so no reason to doubt it can’t for Di Maria.  Reasonable fixtures up in the next 2 but they get harder thats for sure

Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)
Man City (A)

Fabregas (£9.1m)

I don’t need to say much more than 44% ownership in a free scoring Chelsea side makes him a dangerous player to your ranking not to own.  2 assists and 2 bonus point gave him a 10 point haul.  He barely registers on the shot stats but that doesn’t seem to be an issue so far.  Again coming from a deeper position next to Matic.  Fixtures are pretty mixed and away to City is one of the better times to defer buying if you need to.

Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Man Utd (A)
QPR (H)

Schneiderlin (£5.6m)

3 goals in the first 4 games (also 3 in the last 2) make him the unexpected form player of the moemnt.  He’s effectively a CDM and the goals are there despite not having many shots in the box, pen box touches or a high average position.  Still this is typical of the YYT and Ramsey type goal scorer.  It’s just whether you think Schneiderlin is going to join that group from a non top 4 challenging team.  Fixtures remain good for the gamble though

Swansea (A)
QPR (H)
Spurs (A)
Sunderland (H)
Stoke (H)
Hull (A)

Clyne (£5.2m)

You don’t often see defenders in this but Clyne and the Southampton defence generally have been excellent this season much to everyones surprise.  With 2 clean sheets in 4 games and with Man Utd the only team to have conceded less shots in the box it’s been a great start for Clyne and Southampton.  He does have a goal and an assist in his first 2 games to add to the clean sheets and has a reasonable attacking record over the last 2 games. He doesn’t particularly feature in the underlying  attacking stats for defenders at the moment but as I said his record over the last 2 years is ok.  It’s whether you think he’s worth the £0.2m more than Bertrand and Alderweireld.

Swansea (A)
QPR (H)
Spurs (A)
Sunderland (H)
Stoke (H)
Hull (A)

The Sinking Ships

Sturridge (£11.4m)

Out for 2-3 weeks although the fantasy premier league site says GW9.  On that basis it looks like a nailed on sell

Debuchy (£5.5m)

Forced off with an ankle injury during the game against City reports vary on the time that he will be out but it looks like it will be a couple of months rather than a couple of weeks.  On that basis a sale looks the obvious course of action

Jovetic (£8.1m)

Injured but expected back for GW5.  He’s started the season with 2 goals in 3 games.  Those 2 goals coming in an excellent performance against Liverpool.  However he was invisible in the loss to Stoke and Pellegrini showed that he also will make Aguero a lone striker wilth Silva behind.  There are also questions about how compatible Jovetic and Aguero are with both players looking to drop off.  Dzeko is the more natural partner who plays high up the pitch and centrally which offsets Agueros drifting.  All these factors create an uncertainty about his gametime.  The fixtures are mixed although City have the ability to score against anyone.

Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)
West Ham (A)
Man Utd (H)

Rooney (£10.4m)

After 2 pretty invisible performances before the QPR game and thoughts that he would be pushed back into the number 10 role to accomodate Falcao led to a number of sales.  Many of them for Falcao itself.  Still home to QPR is a very dangerous time to sell and thats how it transpired with a goal and an assist giving him a 10 point haul.  Falcao coming on as a sub rather than starting has just deffered the positional question.  Mata scoring and playing well further confuses it and therefore nothing is resolved position wise.  However with 3 good fixtures in the next 4, an ownership of 35% and a long history of scoring big against lower placed sides make him a very risky sale until things are clearer

Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)
Man City (A)

Sterling (£8.8m)

Being rested every now and then with the Champions League coming up seems to be part of Rodgers strategy with Sterling to avoid burn out and this plus the unexpected loss to Villa seems to have triggered sales of the young midfielder.  So far it’s 2 goals and an assit in the first 4 games and a 50% return rate.  Only Chadli has had more shots in the box and only Chadli and Sanchez have more pen box touches showing his start is no fluke.  The fixtures are also very good.  His ownership is 47%.  Selling with those factors is very risky

West Ham (A)
Everton (H)
West Brom (H)
QPR (A)
Hull (H)
Newcastle (A)
