Introduction

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

GW9 review

A slightly disappointing GW9 having just played my Wildcard, but I’m looking at it philosophically as I did expect this to be the toughest of the first 4 weeks following on. 4 returns only – 2 clean sheets (Chilwell and Coufal) and double figure attacking returns for DCL and (c) Bruno with FPL owners riding their luck on the Portuguese midfielder and a literal 20 point swing in a matter of a couple of minutes after his retaken penalty. Phew!

Quite a few disappointments sadly. Triple Villa was a masssive flunk, double City not much better. Had I left my team as was, I would have been around 10 points up by holding Kane, Son and Konsa, though to be honest I’m not too down on this as I hope over the next few weeks my new team will balance this off. Kane and Son only picked up single attacking returns each so I’ve no plans to jump back into their bandwagon yet – I can see this trend continuing, but neither will be heavily Captained so I’m happy to gamble on the players I have now who I believe have a higher ceiling.

On reflection, there are 2 significant mistakes I think I have made with my Wildcard team though. The first is having triple Villa – they look too inconsistent to trust every week. The second is no Liverpool coverage. I know they were poor with a kind of scratch side against Atalanta in midweek (though Atalanta are a hugely underrated team in my opinion) but in the EPL, they have been posting some great attacking numbers over the last few weeks. And they kind of have to really – with so many defensive players injured they have to play even more attacking and having watched the Leicester fixture in GW9, I can certainly say they passed the eye test in this regard on many fronts.

So with that in mind, we move on to GW10…

GW10 Team

1FT and £1.9m in the bank. My initial plan for this week had been to change Fernandes for Salah, but I’m finding it hard to make this move now after Fernandes haul in GW9 and his performance in the UCL in midweek. It’s a trickier fixture for United this week away to Saints, but one that might also suit them as they will have an opportunity to counter-attack so I’ve shelved this plan. I’ve not really got another way of working Salah in with 1 FT – KDB is the only other route and I don’t want to sell a rested KDB who has Burnley at home. I’m also unlikely to Captain Salah this week if I brought him in as I’ve got Vardy against Fulham, so my plan is to hold off on buying Salah for now and I’ll probably look to get him in for GW12 against Fulham instead.

However I am keen to cover the Liverpool attack this week ad there is another way – Diogo Jota. Jota and I have a bit of a sketchy FPL history, I’ve had a lot of 1 and 2 pointers from him in his Wolves days, but he looks a different beast under Klopp. His stats over the last few weeks are more those of a premium rather than a 6.7m player. I can bring him in for Soucek on a free and this would solve my triple Villa dilemma this week also by allowing me to bench Ollie Watkins away to West Ham. I’m never 100% keen on benching an attacker (especially one that has penalties) but I am a little worried about Villa’s attacking output without Ross Barkley and with having Grealish and Martinez I’m now even more worried about having so many eggs in the Villa basket if they regress back to the form of last season.

So my move this week is likely to be Soucek to Jota, but I’ll make the move on Friday after I’ve checked the Pressers for any other injury news. For my team, Watkins, Walker-Peters and Williams will make up the bench and I’m settled on Vardy at home to Fulham as Captain. It’s a bit of a gamble this one as Vardy has been a bit hot and cold so far, but it’s a decision with a high ceiling. Fulham’s defence looked horribly exposed against Everton, especially down the flanks so I’m hopeful we get a Vardy party on Monday night and not a disappointing 2 pointer.

Best of luck this week everyone and I hope you enjoy the action – and don’t forget it’s a Friday deadline again!

transfer summary:  likely Soucek out Jota in

Kris O

Kris’s last 4 seasons overall rank were 39k, 44k, 46k and 23k

GW9 points: 69   (FPL average 55) Total points: 532, Overall Rank: 760k, green arrow: 235k Team Value: £103.1m

 Kris has used his WC

A reasonable GW9 with a green arrow helped by Calvert Lewin as captain.

My plan this week has remained Kane to Vardy and Son to Sterling for a -4. I am tempted to keep one, most likely Son. I could also get Bruno Fernandes instead of Sterling. Another alternate to keep some City cover is Kane to Vardy and Mitchell to a City defender. Foden will stay for next two, but if he doesn’t look like improving minutes I’ll switch to Jota. Assuming I get Vardy he will be captain and Salah vice.

Good luck all!

Transfer summary: likely Sterling and Vardy for Kane and Son

A pleasing week that could have been so different. I was 50/50 on wcing and at the last minute decided to hold. This gave me a score of 87 and a gw rank of 63k. Over the last 4 gw’s I’ve managed a climb from 1.9million to 491k. I’d love to know what the secret is but sometimes you just get in a grove I guess also Lady Luck is shinning compared to last season where every 50/50 was the wrong one!

On to this week and what to do- simple answer I have no idea! My gut feel was Son/Alexander Arnold to De Bruyne (captain)/Cancelo. I’d also captain De Bruyne v Fulham the following week with the idea to move Bruno Fernandes to Salah when he plays Fulham in gw12. I’d need a little more funds for the Bruno to Salah move so I’d like to roll next week to give me 2 frees to do that but the way this season is going with COVID, injuries etc that seems unlikely especially as my bench is starting to look quite poor.

The plan is still to wildcard in 15/16 when we know the double and blank game weeks.

Good luck everyone and check out my twitter if you want to see what I decide. The decision will be made after the European games are complete.

In his early team thought’s article the Geek talked about a small red arrow being a wildcard disaster, well what could we say about my week then… On a wildcard, score well below the average and a doubling in overall rank. With a few issues in the team already. Quite confidently the worst week one of a wildcard I’ve ever had. Time to move on.

This week I will use my transfer to bring in De Bruyne for Mane. I can’t go without De Bruyne from now, and I sense a benching for Mane this weekend. Also I am planning to captain either of them two, so I need the security that De Bruyne brings having rested midweek. Furthermore, the fixtures are fantastic and he is still not highly owned.

The couple other issues in the team can wait, Barkley got injured within 5 minutes of his game, but it doesn’t seem long term and I’ve got cover for him for now. Neco Williams didn’t start the Leicester game, but he subbed on and started midweek, so he could still make it I suppose.

So that’s it for GW10, De Bruyne captain, Fernandes vice, and Sheff United players in the bench. Note I haven’t done the transfer as of yet in case of last minute unexpected news!

Good luck all!
