Fantasy premier league GW12 player picks by Rob Reid (the FPL Vet) – currently on holiday in Morocco

Hi and welcome to a specially themed Gameweek 12 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

Player selection categories

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. I’m holiday on Morocco this week (I’ll just rub that in) so I’m invoking holiday rules. I have decided that the GW12 picks will have an African theme, in honour of where I am writing this weeks article. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 11 Review

Here’s a link to Rob’s article last week

GW8 Banker – David Silva

GW8 – 7 points (1 goal)
GW9 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet)
GW10 – 2 points
GW11 – 5 points (1 assist) – Another assist takes his season tally to 7. Rumours are circulating that he may be carrying a knock going into GW12, unconfirmed on FPL at the moment as his status is still green.

GW9 Banker – Rob Elliot

GW9 – 7 points (clean sheet, 1 bonus point)
GW10 – 3 points (1 save point)
GW11 – 3 points (1 save point) – so frustrating for the masses of managers who now use him as a sole goalkeeping option. An injury time winner for Bournemouth deprived him of a clean sheet and maybe even some bonus points. United away for the last game of his banker stint, not a great chance of a clean sheet but should rack up some save points.

GW10 Banker – Mohamed Salah

GW10 – 4 points (midfield clean sheet, assist, missed penalty)
GW11 – 15 points (2 goals, midfield clean sheet, 3 bonus points) – his 4th double digit return in 11 gameweeks, season keeper form. Liverpool have a fantastic run coming up as well, only Chelsea and Arsenal before GW22! 40% ownership, ignore him at your peril.

GW11 Banker – Phil Jones

GW11 – 1 point (yellow card, 1 goal conceded) – subbed before he got sent off and lucky not to score an own goal, I’ve seen those calls stand. Injured for GW12 so to start this weeks African theme and seeing as I’m on holiday, I’m calling holiday rules and I’m going to follow Eric Bailly this week!

GW11 Ace  – Dele Alli

0 points – announced as injured approximately 90 minutes before kick-off as Poch continues to stick two fingers up at FPL managers with his injury updates, or lack of.

GW11 Joker – Andre Gray

5 points (1 assist) – a frustrating day for Watford fans as the Hornets squandered a 2 goal lead and missed a last minute penalty that could have salvaged a draw. Still, it was a return for Gray and he should keep his place with Deeney still suspended.

Gameweek 12 Picks

Banker – Wilfred Zaha – (CPL £6.8m) EVE

My GW12 African-themed picks start with Ivory Coast international Zaha. A Palace player may seem an odd call but you just have to look at his fixtures to see why. It’s leaky Everton up first followed by another home fixture against Stoke then Brighton and out of form West Brom away. In fact Arsenal in GW20 is the next really difficult fixture the Eagles face. It’s a great run in which they must get some points if they’ve any chance of survival and Zaha is as likely as their other attacking assets to kick-start their chances.

Ace – Joel Matip – (LIV £5.5m) SOU

It may seem crazy that I’m picking a Liverpool defender, but they’ve actually proved solid at home and they now face goal-shy Southampton. This looks a good chance of a clean sheet and also a 1-0 which could lead to defensive bonus points. Cameroon international Matip has scored well over the last couple of weeks and looks a good bet for a return this week.

Joker – Oumarr Niasse – (EVE £4.9m) – cry

The Senegalese international completes the African theme this week and I’m backing him to return in what could be a high-scoring game. Both sides have been less than secure at the back with Niasse producing some good attacking returns of late. He’s well priced with low ownership so could make a nice differential this week.

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone. Normal service will resume when I’m back in the colder climate of the North-east next week!
