Introduction
This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more. The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change. Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

After watching Salah playing 90 minutes in the UCL on Wednesday, I am changing my plans (was about to do Salah and Wilson in for Vardy and Jota out), probably, I will save a free transfer and stay like this. Patience is the key to success

I don’t have any injury/postponement concerns this week (subject to the rest of the European games and assuming the Newcastle v West Brom games goes ahead) so my 2 decisions are how to get Salah in and whether to play Walker-Peters or Bellerin.
I’ve decided I want to keep Kane (9 out of 11 returns with 4 double figures is difficult to take out). That means my only real route to Salah is through De Bruyne (“KDB”) (I could sell Robbo and Bruno but that’s 1 extra transfer and selling Robbo before Fulham just isn’t right). So my transfer is likely to be De Bruyne out, Salah in. It’s a risk given KDB’s form but one I’ll just have to live with (3 premiums is the maximum to have in your team without destroying it and so you can’t have them all!). I’ll likely transfer Salah straight out again next week for KDB in for his West Brom fixture.
The choice between Walker Peters and Bellerin is really a coin toss. At the moment Walker Peters gets the nod on the basis that he’s more likely to get an attacking return given Arsenal complete lack of goals recently.
Captain will be Salah, vice Wilson (assuming fixture goes ahead otherwise I’ll probably put it on Kane).

Gameweek 11 review:
– Well what a crazy roller coaster of a gameweek that was !!
– All the “premium players” seemed to catch fire on the same weekend, with De Bruyne, Sterling and Fernandes amongst the points on Saturday, then Vardy, Salah, Son and Kane ran in big points on Sunday. Then throw In highly owned Bamford and Calvert Lewin also chipping in, with Zaha “going nuts” too, and it made for quite a weekend !!
– Even Benteke is showing consistency, scoring for the second season running !!
– With Man City racking up the points on Saturday, then Spurs and Liverpool doing the same on Sunday, it meant wildly fluctuating rank swings, with some FPL managers halving their ranks on one day, and seeing their gains all wiped out on Sunday, with others doing it in complete reverse. A definite game of two halves !!
My gameweek score and rank:
– 72 points, from seven returning players, including goals for all my three strikers, and a 28 point captain haul, is a good week by any stretch. Calvert Lewin, Bamford and Vardy all found the net up front, Fernandes and De Bruyne delivered from midfield, and Dias made it back to back clean sheets since signing him, with Walker Peters grabbing a late VAR aided assist.
– When you captain a player who is not owned by 78% of FPL managers, and he brings in 28 points, you would expect a healthy green arrow for the week, though that wasn’t exactly how the week panned out.
– A 5th successive green arrow is pleasing though, up 75K from 783K to 708K. That’s good momentum. But that doesn’t tell half the tale. On Saturday, after captain KDB delivered and I had 5/7 returners, I jumped from 783K to 291K, which was looking very nice indeed. A huge jump and a possibly significant week in my season.
– But I knew full well that 7/10 players had already played, with Kane, Son and Salah still to survive on Sunday from behind the sofa. Owning no Spurs or Liverpool players in those games was frightening. With Kane, Son and Salah scoring 39 points, it went about as badly as it could do, and my rank went tumbling back to 717K. A brutal day.
The premium conundrum:
– Right now, we have a fascinating situation where De Bruyne, Sterling , Salah, Fernandes, Kane, Son and Vardy are all scoring points – and we can’t have em all !!
– What’s comforting is that Kane, Son and Salah can still “do their worst “ and I can still come out with a green arrow. It shows that if your own players deliver, you can still do well. De Bruyne, Vardy and Fernandes all delivered too. You can’t worry about the ones you don’t own. There will be people who have had great weeks who don’t own Kane or Son. There will be people who did great without KDB or without Salah. It’s just how it’s going to be now and there will be more wildly fluctuating mid gameweek swings.
So what next:
– I have two free transfers and 0.5M in the bank. I deliberately rolled the transfer with this week in mind.
– My plans were largely pre set going into this gameweek, and the events that unfolded last weekend have just re inforced those plans. I already have De Bruyne and Fernandes, and I want to bring back Mo Salah to my team ahead of him facing Fulham, and beyond. This means if I want that “magic three” in midfield, I need to go with three cheaper forwards and Vardy will need to go. KDB, Bruno and Salah are my “chosen three” premiums from this week. They are all talismen for their teams, all capable of explosive returns and all on penalties.
– My plan was to switch Ziyech to Salah this week, and the hamstring injury to Ziyech, coupled with Salah looking sharp, has sealed this pre planned move. Salah playing 90 mins in Europe was unexpected and is far from ideal, but I am sticking to the plan. I have also moved Vardy down to Che Adams, with Southampton hosting Sheff Utd as a good entry point, and Vardy embarking on two home games when he has scored virtually all his points on the road.
– My initial plan had Callum Wilson in for Vardy, I have the funds, and Newcastle have some great fixtures, but the Covid outbreak at Newcastle has put a spanner in the works. I had to move on prices before confirmation of which Newcastle players are affected.
– One plus of choosing Adams instead, is i just about have the funds to get Justin up to Reece James, and a Chelsea double up of Chilwell and James, plus Dias, is an interesting prospect. I don’t really want to take -4 to go double Chelsea defence v Calvert Lewin this week, but I think double Chelsea defence will be a good differential and having both attacking full backs is also a hedge against having no Chelsea attackers in a very attacking team. A high chance they can be involved in any attacking returns.
My thoughts on the key premiums:
– It’s a tough task trying to prioritise which premium players are most desirable and of course it depends on your own team structure, preferences and even gut feeling. But here is my own current order of preference.
– De Bruyne came into my team on a GW9 wildcard with the favourable fixture run in mind. He has just brought me in 38 points in two games, which could even have been significantly more !! He looked impressive, and has great fixtures to come, particularly at home. He comes with “Pep risk” but then again, all the other premiums will sit out games too. He also seems more of a goal scoring threat this season and his ownership remains low which holds great rank boosting potential.
– Mo Salah only left my team due to his Covid absence. I brought in Fernandes as “temporary cover” for one or two games, which worked out well, immediately captaining Bruno in GW9 for 22 points, so it was the right call. Bruno also outscored Salah 10-6 in GW10. Mo took the honours 14-6 last week and I absolutely hate not owning him. Salah has great fixtures too. FPL would not be FPL without Salah in my team. An absolute must in my team.
– Having been in my team for three weeks and providing me with 38 points, I really don’t want to let Bruno Fernandes go. He has busted his tag of only scoring penalties. He is producing great stats and is the hub of the team. Yes United are looking unconvincing at times, but when they do click, Bruno is always heavily involved. He is averaging 11 points in all away games, and 11 points in the last four games. You just can’t keep him down.
– Which means I am going without Kane and Son. Mourinho has completely changed the dynamics of how Spurs play, since that late West Ham collapse. It’s frustrating when Mourinho decides he doesn’t want to cross the half way line anymore. That 0-0 bore draw at Chelsea a case in point. There will be similar games, possibly at Liverpool next week. There has been a sharp decline in attacking stats. Spurs have scored just 8 goals in the last 6 games. Kane only had four touches in the final third v Arsenal which is staggering. Kane and Son returns are going to hurt due to ownership, especially when they assist each other ( !! ) but I just think there is a bigger points ceiling from the other three, with their frequent attacking raids. How would it affect Kane or Son if one of them were to get injured ?
– Vardy I brought in on wildcard with fixtures against Fulham and Sheff Utd in mind. He returned twice. But Leicester are a frustrating watch, they seem to lack the quality to break down the low block. He is an easy sell for me.
Some interesting stats to ponder:
– Let’s have a look at how the “premium contenders” stack up for “goal attempts “ in the last six games….
– De Bruyne 17, Fernandes 16, Salah 13, Vardy 9, Kane 9, Son 6.
– With Kane and Son surprisingly barely averaging one shot per game over the last six matches, due to the far more defensive Spurs approach, there is nothing to dissuade me from selecting KDB, Bruno and Salah as my three premiums.
– With Grealish having 15 goal attempts in this period, the stats support my midfield four selection of KDB, Salah, Bruno and Grealish, and provide hope that Grealish can keep close to Son’s returns at a 2M cheaper price tag, which of course can be put to good use elsewhere. Grealish also has two double gameweeks too.
– De Bruyne has notably gone from being an “assister” to a potential goal scorer too. He is shooting much more. Plus he still has assists too. That’s an explosive cocktail.
Further team thoughts:
– Aston Villa now have TWO double gameweeks, a key reason I held Grealish and Martinez through their blank last week. With my double change planned this week, a keeper switch last week would have then cost me a -4 this week and meant I had to produce a keeper clean sheet just to gain a net 2 points. Or if I had upgraded my bench keeper to a 4.5K keeper, I would have also lost points and tied up money on my bench. So it was the right decision to run with no keeper last week with Martinez now on good fixtures and two double gameweeks ahead. Grealish is the most bought player this week, again vindicating me holding him.
– There are plenty of Calvert Lewin sellers about. He is 60% owned, has 9 returns in 11 games, and shows no sign of stopping. In form strikers are fixture proof. Bamford has been producing incredible stats and now has the fixtures to match. Bamford has had 29 goal attempts in the last six games. The next best striker has 13 !!
-Justin has been on “last game scenario “ for weeks. He keeps getting one more game, due to injury setbacks to the probable first choice full backs. But 2 returns in the last 9 games makes that switch to Reece James appealing. I want Reece James in sooner rather than later. If Chilwell, James or Dias then get rotated, which they will, I am happy with Walker Peters and Coufal providing valuable rotation bench cover for the upcoming busy schedule.
Gameweek 12:
-Captain will be Mo Salah. There have to be concerns about him starting after his unexpected and unhelpful midweek game, especially with Spurs to follow in midweek. But Jota played too remember. I think Salah will start. The fixture against Fulham is simply too good to resist. I am all in on Salah. Vice captain could be important so that’s on De Bruyne.
– Fernandes and De Bruyne facing each other is not ideal when the other big premium contenders have good fixtures, Spurs have Palace and Vardy has Brighton, but both Bruno and KDB are capable of lighting up this fixture. I actually think De Bruyne could “go big” in this game, with United looking vulnerable to quality and reeling after their Champions league exit.
– One of those weeks when defenders play attackers, which is never good, Dias comes up against Fernandes, and Chilwell comes up against Calvert Lewin, but that’s always going to happen from time to time. I don’t want to bench top players like Dias and Chilwell because of it.

Decent week, especially given I only had nine players. In fact my two transfers only gained me four extra points so I would have got the same net score with my original eight players!
This week I moved early to replace Foden for Jota ready for the Fulham game. Fingers crossed no injuries. Captain Salah and Vardy vice.
