Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW12 wildcard tips article where we pretend we are using our wildcard. It gives player suggestions with more longevity than just for the up coming gameweek

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW12 WILDCARD TIPS – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

This is a short article where I’m pretending I’m using my wildcard to give you player picks with more longevity than the next game. It’s short as there are no stats. I’ve given links to articles below with all the detailed stats you’ll need if you want to investigate a player in more detail.

In this article there are no stats just some brief narrative on the selection below. There’s stats in the player ranking articles which can be found here using the links below

There’s also our fixture ease article which gives player suggestions with good fixtures. Our underlying stats article focuses on expected goals at a team and player level which may also give you some ideas. You can also see who the popular transfers are in our bandwagons article and who the top 10 FPL managers have in their team

IMAGINARY WC TEAM

The team is approximately £1m above my budget so a downgrade would be needed somewhere but I kept it as it is for illustrative purposes

STRUCTURE

I’ve gone back to what is likely to be a 3-4-3 formation as there are 4 midfielders you would expect to play every week.  To do that I’ve lightened the defence

GKS

With 3 good fixtures next some Man Utd defensive representation was essential for me.  The injury to Jones makes it difficult as you’re then looking to Bailly at £6.1m or Valencia at £6.7m.  Smalling is cheap at £5.3m but would be too much of a gamble for me so I’ve reverted to De Gea to save cash even though I generally prefer cheap GKs

Elliot is a cheap reserve although there’s also Speroni at £4.0m as well as an option

DEFENCE

I still believe the Man City defence is worth investment and have gone for Stones with Otamendi suspended

Then I’ve gone for 3 cheap defenders and I’ve picked the cheap players that have shown home form in Liverpool with Gomez, Burnley with Mee and Leicester with Simpson

Lastly I’ve taken a gamble on some great fixtures purely with Daniels.  I’m not a fan of the Bournemouth defence at all and although Daniels looks great on the eye getting forward his attacking underlying stats are terrible. However the fixtures make it worth a throw of the dice although I can feel another Cedric experiment coming on

Huddersfield (H)
Swansea (A)
Burnley (H)
Southampton (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

MIDFIELD

I’ve gone for Salah and Sterling as my core Mids although Sterling needs to be monitored to see whether the injury is going to stop him playing this weekend.  Sane is the alternative but that would involve some reorganisation

Richarlison is my cheapie of choice.  Normally you’d be looking only with good fixtures but such is his form that he’s such good value and a threat against anyone as Chelsea found out.

Choupo is cheap with good fixtures and gets the nod for me.  I would have preferred Zaha but he is over a £1m more expensive

Loftus Cheek is the 5th mid

FORWARDS

Aguero is the best forward for me but the dizziness and rotation plus the fact that the 3 forwards in the team will all have good fixtures coming up has meant I’ve left him out

Lukaku, Kane and Morata get the nod mainly as they all have good fixtures coming up.  Lukaku from GW12, Kane from  GW13 and Morata from GW14
