fantasy premier league GW13 player picks by Rob Reid (the FPL Vet)

Hi and welcome to Gameweek 13 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

Player Categories

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 12 Review

Here’s a link to Rob’s article last week

GW9 Banker – Rob Elliot

GW9 – 7 points (clean sheet, 1 bonus point)
GW10 – 3 points (1 save point)
GW11 – 3 points (1 save point)
GW12 – 1 point (4 goals conceded, 1 save point) – a trip to Old Trafford doesn’t offer much clean sheet potential and so it proved with the cheapie Newcastle stopper. The Magpies were resoundingly thumped when United woke up after conceding a surprising early goal.

GW10 Banker – Mohamed Salah

GW10 – 4 points (midfield clean sheet, assist, missed penalty)
GW11 – 16 points (2 goals, midfield clean sheet, 3 bonus points)
GW12 – 16 points (2 goals, midfield clean sheet, 3 bonus points) – a bit of deja-vu from last week. Those who gambled on his captain potential cashed in big time this week. Former club Chelsea at home is a tougher proposition this week.

GW11 Banker – Phil Jones

GW11 – 1 point (yellow card, 1 goal conceded)
GW12 – 0 points (injured) [Eric Bailly also injured] – Injuries all round this week as my African themed stand-in Bailly was also injured. We await Jose’s press conference on Friday to see if Jones might be available for the GW13 visit of Brighton.

GW12 Banker – Wilfred Zaha

GW12 – 7 points (1 goal) – It’s 3 goals in 5 for Zaha now and it’s a leaky Stoke defence up next. Remember, despite Palace being bottom of the table fixtures are kind until GW20. Well worth consideration

GW12 Ace – Joel Matip

0 points – injured. A late injury call-off though the Liverpool defence coped pretty well without him racking up another home clean sheet.

GW12 Joker – Oumar Niasse

10 points (1 goal, 1 assist) – another healthy return for the Senegalese. The shine has unfortunately been taken off this return with his 2 game ban for diving.

Gameweek 13 Picks

Banker – Leroy Sane (£9.0 MCI) – hud

The second highest scorer in the game has shot up in price in the last few weeks and with good reason. With Mendy injured, Sane looks as nailed on as you can be under Pep’s City regime. He was rested in the UCL in midweek so should be firing on all cylinders as City make the short journey to Yorkshire this Sunday.

Ace – Callum Wilson (£6.0m BOU) – swa

A hat-trick last week is going to catch anyone’s eye. We know this guy has potential, he’s just been unlucky with injuries. I think we’re going to see a shift to cheap striker options now – there are several available (Wilson, Murray and Nisasse for example.) Wilson is my favoured option at present – he’s got a fantastic clump of 4 fixtures before a horror GW 17-19. The good run starts with a visit to the Liberty Stadium – the Swans are in terrible form so I fancy Wilson to do well this week.

Joker – Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (£5.7m STO) – cry

It’s 4 returns in the last 7 with EMCM (sounds like a physics equation!) being fielded as a lone striker on Monday against Brighton. He netted 10 points in this striker role and was unlucky not to be credited with the assist for the other goal (I think it went to Gareth McAuley?) He’s well priced with low ownership. Fixtures are mixed over the next 4 weeks but he would make a nice rotation option in a 3-5-2 for example if you’re worried about this.

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone.
