The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred IN players so far in the gameweek.

Sterling

A goal and 2 assists vs West Ham with the goal being one of his trademark tap ins.  The guy doesn’t need volume of shots to produce goals he just has an uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time.  It’s no coincidence that his tap in came from a cross field ball from Sane which is something we can expect to see more of.

Rotation is obviously the issue with all Man City assets,  especially when you’ll want him as a captain option at that price.  The positive sign in that regard is that the 2 games he hasn’t started he hasn’t come on as a sub although they were both games where he wasn’t needed given City finished with 6 and 5 goals.

Alexander Arnold

A goal and clean sheet makes it a 14 point gameweek as well as 25 points in the last 2 games.  Given his price of £5.2m for the 2nd best defensive team in the league he’s an absolute steal.  Will be rotated but that will be the case with all the Liverpool defence except maybe Van Dijk and GK Alisson.

Everton (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
Wolves (A)
Newcastle (H)

Sane

When this guy is on the pitch he is deadly, not only from the returns, but the underlying stats.  Returned a goal or assist in every game he’s started says alot.  The Mendy injury should increase his pitch time significantly as he will be the provider of width which Delph and Zincheko won’t do.  No World Cup either so no fatigue from the summer hidden in there somewhere.

Again like anyone in the City team there will be rotation

Mitrovic

Mitrovic has been habitually in the most transferred out schedule due to 1 assist in his last 6 games prior to GW13.  However he suddenly finds himself in the bandwagons after his 2 goals v Southampton.  Chelsea next though and despite Chelsea’s defensive disaster vs Spurs it’s still a difficult entry point for a transfer.

Overall though his returns are ok, as are his underlying stats and consistency, despite the barren run.  It’s just a bit of a strange time to transfer him in

David Silva

Doesn’t have the explosiveness of the other 2 City midfielders on this list but is cheaper and has been selected on a fairly consistent basis by Pep.  How much that will change given that De Bruyne will be back relatively soon to pick up some of the creative duties remains to be seen.  It’s hard to ignore Pep’s words earlier when he said David Silva (aged 32 Pep didn’t say that I’m just pointing it out) wouldn’t play as much this season. Has retired from Spain though which will give him some freshness.

The Sinking Ships

Hazard

1 assist in the last 5 gameweeks.  Those 5 gameweeks did consist of a a sub appearance and a no show but still when in that time Sterling has bought in 45 FPL points to Hazard’s 9 any FPL manager has got to be a little twitchy.

An ankle injury followed by the rather obtuse comments as follows don’t help the situation

“My injury, I think, is not something bad. I just twisted my ankle. I am used to [it] and I will be back soon.”

If you wanted to make the case for holding you would say that of the underlying stats in the 3 games that he started only the Spurs game was poor.  He has been pretty consistently excellent all season.

You would also question whether selling him before a home game to Fulham, when a reaction is needed against the debacle that was the Spurs loss, is the right time to sell.

Trippier

Injured and missed out for on the weekend’s Chelsea game.  Here’s the latest comment on him

“Continues rehabilitation and is aiming to return to training before the end of the month.”

So could be available for the GW14 Arsenal clash.  The Spurs defence is one of the better ones in the league and he is one of the better attacking players but an injury doubt and £4.40 for a clean sheet v Spurs makes him an easy target for a sale.

However after GW14 the Spurs fixtures do ease up

Mendy

A definite sell as he looks like he could be out for 3 months.  Delph replaced him at the weekend although Zinchenko could also take the position and even Laporte could too if required.

Lacazette

Left out of the Bournemouth game with what Emery described as a small injury and the thought seems to be that he should be ok for GW14.  Having started the last 9 with 8 games being 90 minuters it’s hard to see him not returning to the team when fit.  Arsenal have a good run of fixtures at GW16 for those who are patient.

5 goals plus 4 assists in 9 starts plus 3 as sub with good consistency stats is nothing to be sneezed at.  He’s over performing his underlying stats to a small degree which is the only negative but history shows he can do this.

Aguero

The 4-0 win over West Ham was a pretty disturbing episode for Aguero.  To not have a goal or assist in a 4-0 win when you’ve played 80 minutes in itself is pretty bad but to only have 1 shot and 1 key pass in the game is a sub optimal outcome to say the least.  This is a guy who averages 5 shots every 90 minutes he’s on the pitch.

To put it into context.  To find a PL game against a non top 6 side that he started but only had 1 shot you in you need to go back to April 2016.  That’s knocking on the door of 70 games.  Now I’ve only seen highlights but he seemed to be doing a bit of a Firmino impersonation and you could make a case saying he should have been in the position to  score both the Sterling and the first Sane goal.

The away game theory against Aguero also seems to ignore the context. He scored v Cardiff and the other away games before GW13 were Wolves,  Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs where City in the 4 games only scored 5 goals in total.

It is hopefully just a one off performance.
