Fantasy premier league – GW17 my imaginary wildcard

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my fantasy premier league imaginary wildcard team for gameweek 17. Its a team for the future as if I was using my wildcard, not just GW17

fantasy premier league – my imaginary wildcard team for GW17

I’ve dovetailed it in with my “ones to watch” articles so you can see the stats while viewing the team. Obviously when doing a wildcard team you can take a few more chances and in order to make the numbers up you add in players that you may have classified as hold in case you were wondering.  Some of the numbers are my sell values by the way not the buy prices.

By the way I wouldn’t really do your wildcard now with the January fantasy premier league coming up.  This is just for ideas.

I’m not going  to give the historical stats as this is all about the Pulis effect.  2 clean sheets in consecutive games and a good set of home games coming.  Pulis will make Selhurst Park a fortress.Speroni is good value and rotates well with McGregorExcellent home fixtures apart from the last one.Next 6 fantasy premier league HOME  fixtures:Newcastle (H)

Overall defensive rankings:  Home defence 2/402nd best home defence behind Manchester city.  5 clean sheets and only 3 goals conceded.  Steve Bruce is an excellent defensive coach and  did wonders at Wigan.Next 6 home fixtures could be better with Man Utd and Chelsea in the next 3.  Looking like a solid January wildcard pick though if you dont have anyone at the moment.  GK MacGregor is reasonable value at £4.4m for home and away rotation.Next 6 fantasy premier league HOME  fixtures:

It takes a big leap of faith to stay with the Chelsea defence.  Like Liverpool they concede goals in games they control and where the opposition has few good chances. palace will be the last straw for many. Fixtures aren’t helpful either.  Underlying stats  wise it looks like they could turn it around.  However 1 clean sheet in the last 11 and only 4 overall is not good to say the least and I understand people selling or having sold.I rate them the 3rd best away defence and 7th best home defence.  However the results just don’t bear it out at the moment.  1 clean sheet in the last 11 is no return for £6m defenders.  Another terrible defensive performance in the Capital One cup despite having the edge on possession.  It wasn’t a full strength defence but it wasn’t far off. It seems hard to recommend a side that’s only had 4 clean sheets.  The ranking is based on good underlying stats.  They concede very few really good chances and shots inside the box in comparison to other teams.  Its just that when they do they concede goals.  Interestingly in my article “fantasy premier league – analysing 10 top fantasy premier league managers teams”  (link at bottom of article)  5/10 managers have John Terry so other people who know what they are doing are keeping the faith.  It will be interesting to see how many sell offs there are this gameweek after these 2 results and Arsenal away next.Terry is my top choice at £6.6m.  He’s 24 points better off than any other option.  He’s the best attacking prospect and a bonus magnet with 13 points already. The next 6 fixtures look difficult for clean sheets.  Only really Swansea at home and Hull away could be clean sheet potential.

Mertesacker

Overall defensive rankings:  home defence  5/40   Away defence 16/40    Clean sheets:  6
The 5th best home defence and the 4th best away defence.  Took an absolute pounding at Man City but still have a good record with 5 clean sheets in the last 8.  Remains to be seen if the defence is the same with Koscielny injured.  Alot of clean sheet potential after the next game home to ChelseaMertesacker is definitely the top option for attacking and bonus points at the moment but far more expensive at £6.0m.  Showed his attacking value with his 2nd goals of the season to add to his clean sheet.Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:Chelsea (H)

The 2nd best away defence but only the 11th best home defence.  Still the number 1 defence overall though in my view.  Disappointing to have no clean sheet at home to Fulham which should be a banker.  Underlying defensive stats could have been better as well.  A good chance for 4 clean sheets in the next 6.Coleman is the attacking option who plays as a winger virtually.  3 goals and an assist plus 11 bonus points.Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:Swansea (A)

Alot of fantasy premier league managers were waiting in the wings for him to start. No one could have anticipated his impact with 2 goals.  One of the few midfielders who can rely solely on shooting stats.  Good fixtures after the Chelsea game.

Returned again in the loss to City.  Still looks good value as he seems to have dropped his defensive duties and playing fairly centrally and advanced.  Good fixtures and a relatively cheap way of covering a high ownership player.  Will be interesting to see if his ownership drops with Walcott back in the team

a goal and an assist in the 4 games back since bac rest aren’t.   Cardiff next is a great fixture even if the fixtures after that aren’t great.  Will always have gametime issues but for the price in such a strong attacking team its worth the punt in my mind.

Started and scored in the rout over Arsenal.  Played 70 minutes against Leicester which was a bit of a surprise given back from injury.  Hard to predict whether this will affect his position in GW17.  My feeling is Pellegrini wont want to be without the injured Aguero and leave his other world class attacking force in Silva on the bench.  However Pellegrini isn’t easy to predict.  Will Aguero being absent affect his returns.  Maybe.  Aguero hasn’t played 2 premier league games.  Neither of which City won.  However it could mean Silva ends up playing behind the striker which would be a positive.  Its all unknowns for the moment.  Fulham away is a very tempting fixture.  Not one that you eally want to stand back and use as data gathering.

A different type of striker to Aguero and Suarez in that he relies on movement and getting into positions between CBs rather than being highly involved.  This can make him look a little quiet at times.  This was the case against Fulham where he was the recipient of a very lucky assist.  has been very consistent and underlying shooting stats are good, even if creating chances aren’t.  This is a fixture play though as every game in the next 6 has the potential for him to score.  He has the potential to score big as well.

Lets get one thing right.  Despite the hype Negredo is no Aguero.  His shots in the box aren’t that great for his price and he doesn’t create chances at all.  However he has been dropping back into midfield to pick up players when not in possession.  Maybe as the main man things will be different.  Certainly has a good set of fixtures to establish that starting with Fulham away.  Should get the nod over Dzeko if Pellegrini goes with 1 up front even with the goals from Dzeko in the Cap One.  He is an obvious replacement for Aguero.
