FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW17 – SOME EARLY THOUGHTS ON THE FFGEEK TEAM

So a very good gameweek.  My best of the season so far.  You know when you play a back 5 and 3 defenders get attacking returns then it’s your lucky day and with a gameweek rank of 43k it’s hard to imagine I’ll have a better gameweek all season.

There were 2 reasons to pick 12 pointer Harry Kane as captain this week.  History and his explosiveness.  I won’t even count the Stoke defence as one reason as West Ham and Everton also had terrible defensive records (albeit with a new manager bounce).  However, there were a thousand reasons not to choose him as captain.  Sadly, I was like a man in Las Vegas at a slot machine continually feeding money in thinking that eventually it had to pay out big,   too scared to get off the machine in case someone else came on to take my winnings.  The choice of Harry Kane as captain for me was that irrational.

A few major pluses, Otamendi somehow scored again, the Burnley defence kept a clean sheet, somehow, again and Salah was just being Salah.

The -4 paid off.  2 points for Ryan and 6 for Gomez = 8pts vs 1 for Daniels and 0 for Elliot plus the 4 saved = 5pts.

ISSUES WITH THE TEAM

Just the 1 transfer to use this week and a number of issues to sort out over the coming weeks.  I have 4 transfers to use  before a carry over of 2 for DGW22.

 The GKs

When the West Ham selection is settled my thinking at the moment is to transfer 1 in for Krul for DGW22.

Davies

For the 2nd gameweek in a row no top 6 team kept a clean sheet.  0 in 12 doesn’t look great.  Davies, having started on Saturday, I suspect won’t play this week at home to Brighton which is a shame as it’s a nailed on clean sheet as you can imagine.  He looks the favourite to go to someone cheap to enable Richarlison to come in for Choupo Moting.  At the moment I’m thinking Kenny of Everton who was excellent v Liverpool and rotates perfectly with Gomez of Liverpool.  Not a great fixture to start is the only issue so further thought needed.

Choupo Moting

Blanked in his last 4 gameweeks and done absolutely nothing in his last 5 underlying stats wise.  Now also not playing striker but a left attacking mid position.   He will go for Richarlison who has a great run of fixtures.  It’s just whether it’s for a hit this week v Palace or whether I wait to GW18.

Niasse

Surprisingly started vs Liverpool although it was 45 minutes of absolutely nothing.  Calvert Lewin won the penalty so looks like he will start. I may not have the funds to fix him until the double Chelsea thing has run it’s course.  Potential exit points for Chelsea are GW22 when they are away to Arsenal or definitely GW28/GW29 when they play Man Utd and Man City consecutively.  Either way that’s a long time to hold Niasse in a time of rotation and injuries.  It also means a wasted bench slot in blank GW21.

Blank GW21 and double GW22 thoughts

I have 4 transfers, assuming no hits, if I’m to carry over 2 for DGW22.  I already have 3 allocated.   Krul to a West Ham GK, Davies to a cheap def and Choupo to Richarlison.  That leaves 1 more transfer and very little funds so an upgrade of Niasse looks impossible.  I’ll keep that in my pocket and the decision will have to be taken later.

TEAM LINEUP BEFORE TRANSFERS

Here’s how the team will look like before any transfers.  Assume Davies is Kenny of Everton for the moment.

So pretty good fixtures all round apart from the GK.  If Richarlison came in for a hit over Choupo then He would swap with Loftus Cheek

CAPTAIN THOUGHTS

Does the Las Vegas gambler leave the machine and take a shower and have some breakfast after an all nighter and finally winning back a small proportion of his winnings?  Of course he doesn’t.  He’s on a roll….

So probably Kane, although I’d like to take a look at the polls.  One will be up this morning btw.

Salah is the only other option.  I’m assuming he came off after 66 minutes so he could play midweek but who knows as Klopp is looking more like Pep these days
