bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW19 article where we outline the most transferred in players so far in the gameweek (the bandwagons) and the most transferred out (the sinking ships). There’s a table of stats on each as well as some narrative on their prospects and their next 6 fixtures

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek. The fixt ease column shows the easeiness ranking of the next 6/3 fixtures. See the full article on fixture ease. Values are as per Wednesday

COSTA

The Chelsea forward just sat out a suspension of 1 match in GW18  for accumulating his 5th yellow card.  Was sold in quite large amounts prior to that gameweek and this is the buy back as a result of that.  He is the most consistent returner of goal and assists in FPL,  returning a goal or assist in 14 of his 17 games this season. He’s also 2nd on the FPL total points scoring and points per match.  Good fixture next but generally pretty mixed

Next 6 fixtures:

Leicester (A)
Hull (H)
Liverpool (A)
Arsenal (H)

IBRAHIMOVIC

After a frustrating period that followed a good start it’s all coming up roses for the Manchester United forward.  4 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 games and all of them double figure FPL point hauls.  However these returns are no fluke.  His underlying shooting stats are fantastic.  Good fixtures coming up too.  Also has pens and will be a big captain draw in GW19 home to Middlesboro.  Has pens.

Next 6 fixtures:

Middlesbrough (H)
West Ham (A)
Liverpool (H)
Stoke (A)
Hull (H)
Leicester (A)

LALLANA

I may have underestimated the Liverpool midfielders ability to b in adavnced positions.  Below is the Liverpool average touch position which shows Lallana far further forward than I would have thought.  Not sure if a 4-1 home thrashing is typical but it does give some understanding of his scoring exploits.  To be fair though his shooting stats have improved but they certainly don’t lead you to think he should score as much as he does

4 goals and an assist in the 4 games since returning from injury does show how excellent his form is.  Fixtures upcoming are a weird mixture of the hardest and easiest possible

Man City (H)
Sunderland (A)
Man Utd (A)
Swansea (H)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)

ANTONIO

Speaking of touch positions.  Here’s the average one for West Ham’s thrashing of Swansea.

You can see the attacking intent that lives within the West Ham FPL mid.  This is a player who has had to play Right Wing Back a decent amount of time in the season. Thats why it’s difficult to assess him on returns and underlying stats. Here he started on the right of a 4-3-3 and scored sitting on the 6 yard box practically.  In my view though if he plays in an advanced midfield position he will score goals.

Man Utd (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Man City (H)
Southampton (A)

AGUERO

I did an article last gameweek on some pro’s and cons of buying Aguero which is still relevant.  There’s no point in me talking about stats here.  In reality it may come down to whether you want Costa in your team or Aguero assuming Ibrahimovic is essential for the moment and you don’t want a 3 man premium striker lineup.  Aguero also comes down to whether you believe his actual returns to date, which are fairly patchy for him, or whether you believe that his underlying stats, which are better than anyones,  will eventually reward you.  Has pens.

Liverpool (A)
Burnley (H)
Everton (A)
Spurs (H)
West Ham (A)
Swansea (H)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek. The fixt ease column shows the easeiness ranking of the next 6/3 fixtures. See the full fixture ease article where the teams with the best fixtures are ranked. Values are as of Wednesday

WALCOTT

The Arsenal RAM Is subject to an injury flag although it doesn’t appear serious.  He is someone who is also rotatable at a time of fixture congestion.  However a transfer out before a home game to Palace (even a more defensively minded Big Sam version) seems pretty hasty.  The next 5 fixtures are pretty tasty as well.  His recent form of 2 goals in his last 4 are hardly a disaster and his underlying shooting stats are very good.

Crystal Palace (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Swansea (A)
Burnley (H)
Watford (H)
Chelsea (A)

KANE

If, like the Spurs forward was, given 2 plumb home fixtures to Hull and Burnley and you blank in both then you’re going to suffer.  Especially if everyone is trying to buy Costa, Ibrahimovic and to a lesser extent Aguero as you can see above.  1 returning game in his last 5 certainly doesn’t help.  The underlying shooting stats in the last 4 are hopeful though.  Has pens.

Watford (A)
Chelsea (H)
West Brom (H)
Man City (A)
Sunderland (A)
Middlesbrough (H)

BENTEKE

Away to Arsenal is normally a good time to transfer out especially if the player misses a pen and turns the 6 points minimum into -1 and the manager subsequently casts doubt on his responsibilities for them going forward.  In addition to that his underlying stats, which are pretty good over the season have taken a bit of a tumble in recent matches.  However the positive is that after that for the Palace forward is Swansea and a pretty decent run of fixtures

Arsenal (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Everton (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Sunderland (H)

DEFOE

1 assist in your last 4 is always going to lead to sales.  To be fair to the Sunderland forward though 2 of those games were against Man Utd and Chelsea.  There’s also been a drop of of his underlying shooting stats in those games.  If you take Burnley away as a difficult game for Sunderland and then Liverpool next then that may make this as a reasonable exit point.

Burnley (A)
Liverpool (H)
Stoke (H)
West Brom (A)
Spurs (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

MANE

Blanking in a 4-1 win is never a great way to win friends especially with a game against Man City next.  However those 2 things apart there is very little to suggest a reason for dumping the Liverpool RAM.  He’s so key to Liverpool in that his pace stretches defences he’s virtually undroppable.  There’s nothing particularly wrong with his returns over the season, his recent form and his underlying stats.  The next fixtures are a mixture of the sublime and ridiculous but Sunderland, Swansea and Hull are pretty attractive games in between and Liverpool can score against anyone.  UPDATED: I’m reminded in the comments section that Mane is going to AFCON which will have a bearing on transfers out especially with Man City next.  That will see him leave either before or after GW20

Sunderland (A)
Man Utd (A)
Swansea (H)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
