fantasy premier league GW2 – some early thoughts on the FFGeek team

Gameweek 1

Here’s my GW1 team selection article btw

GW1 points: 92 (average 53) Total points 92, Gameweek rank 52k, Overall Rank: 52k, no arrow obviously, Team Value: £100.0m

Here’s the points:

So the gameweek couldn’t have gone better apart from the bench which was a complete disaster.  Last season I had a policy of never putting Otamendi on the bench and I really should have followed that through with Mendy.  Oh well.  Some 50/50 decisions work out and some don’t. Overall I really can’t complain with 92 points and a 52k OR.

Of the players that blanked, Charlie Austin did nothing v his old club Burnley.  That doesn’t worry me too much as he either has games where he does nothing or scores.

Aguero posted good underlying stats so as a selection I’m not worried about him.

Wolves conceding 2 goals against a 10 man Everton side wasn’t a great sign although their xG against was good.  Patricio barely made a save despite conceding 2 goals but he does have a good save percentage historically so I’m not worried just yet.

Gameweek 2

Firstly here’s the fixtures.  A Saturday 11.30am UK time start btw.

fantasy premier league GW2

At the moment I have no transfer plans and would rather hold out and use 2 if possible for GW3.

The interesting fixture is Spurs v Fulham.  Fulham are interesting side and one of the few to come out of the Championship that aren’t in the Cardiff mode of a deep lying defensive team with counter attack and set pieces being the main premier league game plan.  Their desire to attack could make them an easy Harry Kane target.  I have no plans to switch but it will be interesting to see how FPL managers react to the fixture, if at all over the course of this week.

Here’s how my team will possibly lineup in GW2.  At the moment the uncertainty will be around Luiz vs Austin vs Zaha as the one questionable selection point.

Captain plans

Unless Pep positively comes out and says Aguero will start I probably will go with Salah as captain.  Pep could play 2 strikers or he could play Jesus and bring Aguero on at the last minute.  Personally I believe Aguero pretty much pays for himself anyway, captain option or not, but it’s not ideal that you can’t captain him at home to Huddersfield.

Things could get worse.  De Bruyne could easily come into the starting team for Bernardo. The idea that you have 3 City players and 2 don’t start v Huddersfield at home which is one of your banker games isn’t great.  Unfortunately with City there are times where you are damned if they are in your FPL team and damned if they aren’t.  Personally in these cases I tend to prefer to go down with the ship rather than go down on my own in a dinghy while watching everyone on the ship partying.  If you don’t understand the metaphor I just tend to make sure I have the players in City owned by a large majority of active FPL managers so the risk is neutralised to some extent.

Articles this week

If you’re familiar with the site you’ll know the articles coming up.  I won’t be doing the underlying stats articles until there’s more data which will probably be around GW8.

The contributors team articles will probably come around towards the end of the week.
