fantasy premier league GW2 – my imaginary wildcard

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s the first article for the season where we pretend we have a wildcard to use for the upcoming gameweek.  Don’t get me wrong I’m not advocating using a wildcard at this stage.  I think it would be very wasteful.  It’s just a way of showing you some players for the weeks ahead.  They are how you would consider a transfer if you were making one  and will give you ideas for the longer term rather than just 1 game .  In the narrative I also make other suggestions to help you with your transfer thoughts

So firstly here’s the team.  It’s the broken down to it’s various components:

fpl..gw2imagwc2

Here’s how I break them down into the various components.  It’s worth noting that I haven’t left space for Aguero.  This is meant to be player recommendations and team structure rather than a realistic scenario.  In any case I would probably save the transfer and get him in for GW4 anyway.

The teams core

Here’s my article on this subject from an attacking point of view:

fantasy premier league – the proven and reliable

Azpilicueta – The core in defence is Chelsea who last season had the most clean sheets and the least goals conceded and the best underlying defensive stats of any team.  Azpilicueta is the cheapest and although lacks the attacking potential of Ivanovic and Terry does have the right stats for bonus potential.

Hazard – A consistent returner and an explosive returner who also has pens as an added bonus.  2 double doubles (ie double figure goals and assists) in the last 3 years and very high consistent returns over the last 3 years.  1 game where there was a sending off doesn’t change that.  Also has excellent shooting and creating chances underlying stats to show those returns are no fluke.

Silva – Has been a fairly consistent returner over the seasons and now it seems he will play centrally behind Aguero in the attack.  That gives him the platform to add to his double double of last season.  Has strong set piece representation and started fantastically well against WBA.  Obviously YYT started well as an alternative and is certainly worth monitoring.  Silva is probably a more predicatble returner though at the moment and plays in an advanced central position.  However I have said this before about YYT and paid the price so worth monitoring.

Rooney – Stats prove that over the years when played as a striker he has a great return rate.  If you saw my captain article you will see that overall last season that wasn’t the case although he did return in all 5 home games.  The question is whether LVGs playing style may invalidate all of the historic stats.  However that risk is mitigated but some juicy fixtures ion the next few games.

The fixture players

My fixture analysis article (cut and paste below into another tab)

fantasy premier league fixture analysis – best fixtures from GW2

Shows which teams have the best attacking fixtures over the short and long term.  From here I pick my fixture based players which are the players in a team with fixtures that have the potential to maximise returns

Benteke

At the moment to me he’s the player best placed to take advantage of Liverpools good upcoming fixtures and has captain potential

Benteke (1 game 0 goals 0 assists) – FPL point every 18.7 mins in 14/15.  10 returns in 29 games = 35%  in 14/15

Bournemouth (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Aston Villa (H)

Sakho

I could have just have easily gone Payet here but the West Ham striker did have good patches of returns last year and has 2 very good fixtures in front of him. If you wanted to have Kane in your team Payet would be the alternative to Sakho as a fixture player

Sakho (1 game 0 goals 0 assist) – Minutes per FPL point  2014/15 = 17.9 mins.  Consistency rate 14/15 ie % of games with a goal or assist 11/23 = 48%

Leicester (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (A)
Newcastle (H)
Man City (A)
Norwich (H)

Mane

Either Pelle or Mane are the best Southampton options.  However if you want to save some money the Tadic is also an option at £7.0m  He has pens but is more of an assist based player.

Mane (1 game 0 goals 0 assists)   – FPL point every 15.6 minutes in 14/15.   11 returns in 33 games 33% consistency

Everton (H)
Watford (A)
Norwich (H)
West Brom (A)
Man Utd (H)
Swansea (H)

Ozil

I’ve put Ozil in a seperate category because he’s not in the proven and reliable category and he’s not consistently good fixtures.  He’s also not an ownership player.  It’s just not having any Arsenal coverage when they are such a potentially dangerous attacking team seems the wrong thing to do. Walcott would fall into the proven and reliable if there was any gametime security and Sanchez while only 1 season seems to have the potential to fall into the category.  I’ve gone for Ozil due to his CAM position so is well placed to benefit if they show their attacking potential again

Crystal Palace (A)
Liverpool (H)
Newcastle (A)
Stoke (H)
Chelsea (A)
Leicester (A)

The cheapies

Here are the fillers in your team which are there not only to get points but give you the chance to spend big money on the rest of the team

Defence

If you cost £5.0m or more you should be playing home and away is my theory.  So a general structure is 1 or 2 defences from the top 4 teams and then add £4.5m players to rotate for the rest.  I’ve gone for Azpilicueta of Chelsea as my premium defender and then added £4.5m players from various teams.  Unfortunately there’s alot of risk in my choices.

Gomez of Liverpool started with 11 points but did struggle at times in the game and Moreno maybe back in the frame.  However a Liverpool defender for £4.6m after last nights price rise is too good to resist.  Means this will not be a squad within £100m by the way becuase of that price rise.

Cameron

I’ve gone for the Stoke defender as he does have 3 good home games in the next 6.  Stoke looked reasonably solid against Liverpool.  It’s difficult to work out who’s secure though.  An alternative would be the GK Butland who rotates with the Norwich GK home and away reasonable well.

Kaboul

Sunderland have recovered from their defensive disasters last season a and had an excellent clean sheet record.  Who knows after the horrendous performance against Leicester who will be replaced and only Pantillimon seems safe but he’s £5.0m.  Coates was absolutely terrible and Jones was subbed early on which only leaves PVA who was £5.0m and equally terrible.

Targett

Only short term representation of the Southampton defence who have good short term fixtures.  Doesn’t have gametime security though with Bertrand back soon.  Alot was made of Oxford of West Ham but he has well faces competition from new signing Obiang who was not fit for GW1.

GKs

No point in spending money here as the save points will give you value for the cheap GKs.  I’ve not totally lost faith in the Pulis defence after the Man City hammering and kept Myhill (although he will lose his place in October and faces potential competition if David Marshall is signed for Cardiff).  However he’s the only £4.5m representation for the WBA defence.  The other GK is the only playing £4.0m GK McCarthy of Palace.  They don’t rotate home and away but I would go with the WBA defence as a default

The midfield bench warmer

I’ve stuck with Surman at £4.5m of Bournemouth  just as he seems a safe choice.  Westwood at £4.5m of Villa seems a good choice as well with set piece potential although there is alot of competition for his place and with Grealish and Gil to come back may change how the midfield is structured.  They are attacking mids though and not a direct replacement.  Sherwood has talked Westwood up though so that helps security

Ownership

The only high ownership players I haven’t covered are firstly Kane who I’ve taken a view on.  Despite a good fixture next he doesn’t seem to be a captain option in the various FPL  advice site polls which is good news.  There seems to be a view that he’s over priced and unproven after 1 season.  The lack of him in the top 10 FPL managers teams mean I’ve taken a view.

The other is Cech.  I would like an Arsenal defender and Koscielny would be worth the extra money to me but there’s no funds available at the moment. GKs have limited points potential in each game so coverage is less of an issue.

Clyne is the 3rd but I’ve got coverage of that through Gomez for the short term anyway hopefully.  Again defenders have less ranking damage potential than attackers as you need a clean sheet and an attacking return to really rack up the points
