Xhaka

It was a 2 assist 10 FPL points night for the Arsenal CM in the win over Leicester.  That takes him to 2/3 of the way to his assist total last season in nigh on 2,500 minutes he played in total.  Xhaka normally collects more cards than returns if last season is anything to go by.  True he did take some set pieces against Leicester and his creativity and shot volume was good.  However this is still a guy who spends most of the time patrolling the centre circle rather than the penalty box.  A couple of tricky fixtures next.

Hegazy

Nothing like a clean sheet,  a goal plus maximum bonus points to take away from your debut game to get the transfers in rolling.  While I hate to be the part pooper for the 2nd time he was in the side unchallenged due  to the injuries to Evans and McAuley.  Evans will be back next week but that shouldn’t change his position it’s what happens when McAuley returns in GW4 that’s the question.  He’s played well in preseason and in GW1 so there’s no reason to drop him but it is a risk.  The fixtures though are very good and if you’re going to roll the dice a 6 foot 5 CB in a Pulis side with good defensive games coming is not a bad time to do so.

Vardy

2 chances 2 goals was the result of some ruthless finishing from the man transformed by Craig Shakespeare at the end of last season.  Certainly there are worse fixtures to buy him before than Brighton at home.  You’ll want him to make hay in that game though because the next 2 aren’t pretty

Salah

It was a pretty triumphant return to the Premier League for the former Chelsea man after an unhappy time there.  A goal and an assist in a pretty marauding performance where the returns were fully deserved.   Played on the right of a front 3 in an advanced position which is helpful.   Great fixture next even if the next 2 after that aren’t great at all.  Rotation or minutes management with 2 Champions League fixtures over the next week is the risk.

Lukaku

Home in his debut against his favourite opponent, probably on pens, owned by close to 50% of managers and a huge captain favourite for GW1.  There really are some FPL managers out there who want to live dangerously.  The 2 goals were no fluke either, it could have easily been a hat trick.  The fixtures stay good too.  25 goals and 6 assists in an Everton team last season without penalty duties.  He could do anything in this Man Utd team if he claims them.  Could easily be the captain favourite this week

Swansea (A)
Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Everton (H)

Crystal Palace (H)

Cahill

The FPL managers who chose Cahill as the highest FPL points scorer must have expected a gimme clean sheet in his first fixture against one of the worst sides on the road last season.  However that quickly turned to shock when he was shown an immediate red card after 14 minutes and is now suspended until GW5.

With Fabregas also suspended after a 2nd yellow the replacement permutations are fairly complex.  Bakayoko is injured and obviously Matic sold so the most likely CDM becomes David Luiz.  That could mean rather expensive £5.5m new boy Christenson will get another run out at CB.  However the upcoming fixtures don’t really warrant defensive investment

Fabregas

If you’re willing to take a yellow card for sarcastically clapping the ref then stay on your feet for the rest of the match.  Don’t give the ref the chance for a bit of legitimate revenge.  Bakayoko could be back by the time Fabregas has finished his 1 match suspension which could mean his place is in doubt anyway.  However he maybe saved by the Pedro and Hazard injuries and play further up the field.  There’s enough if’s and tough fixtures in this to make it a difficult hold that’s for sure

Kane

You would think 75 goals in the last 3 seasons would give you enough latitude to last out a 1 game blank wouldn’t you.  I believe he was unlucky in this game.  He hit the post and had a goal rightfully disallowed.  However his shot volume was good and all is definitely not lost.  The Chelsea game next may look like an opportune moment to sell but the Burnley and Swansea home games in the 3 after that look very scary for sellers

Zaha

A yellow flag saying knee injury and a blank in the 0-3 loss to the huge relegation favourites is a good formula for transfers out.  Like Kane to a large degree Zaha was a little unlucky not to return as he had a few opportunities and was a general threat all game.  He was certainly enough of a threat to warrant a fairly physical approach from Huddersfield.  The early warning is that the knee brace is precautionary and he’s expected back at the weekend.   Certainly there are worse fixtures to miss than away to Liverpool.  However the GW3 home game to GW1 29 shot conceding Swansea is a game I would rather have him in for.

Coutinho

A transfer request handed in while hobbling with a convenient back injury is not a great backdrop for holding on to a player.  Barcelona calling is perhaps the worst club that could be interested.  He’s also left out of the Champions League play off game which couldn’t be more important for Liverpool so the situation must be serious (either the back or the likelihood of Barcelona winning the tug of war).  Depending on your view of value and price drops you may want to consider holding on to him further into the week to see how the situation unfolds.  If Huddersfield can score 3 against Palace then who knows what Liverpool could do if they get into the zone
