The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred IN players so far in the gameweek.

Stats are for the 18/19 season.  To clarify the “ATGS/CS odds” section is the anytime goal scoring odds for midfielders and forwards and the clean sheet odds for defenders or goalkeepers. It’s worth nothing that the ATGS odds assume the player starts.

Neves

The Wolves CM is the most transferred in player this week after a goal and assist and 12 FPL points in the 2-2 draw at home to Everton.  The first came from a direct free kick and the 2nd from a cross from deep for Jimenez to head in. He looks likely to dominate set pieces and may even have pens for Wolves.

However the challenge will be overcoming his CM position and how much you can expect him to generate from set pieces and pens as the large majority of returns.  In the Championship last season he scored 6 goals and 1 assist in 42 starts.  That was when Wolves romped the division.

However he is only £5.1m and his output looks some way ahead of alot of the £4.5m options.  It’s just whether you want to pay the additional sum for him as a filler capable of returns or whether you’re expecting returns playing him every week.

Wan-Bissaka

The Crystal Palace £4.1m RB had already shown promise last season when he performed well against the likes of Hazard, Alli and Sanchez. It was no surprise in some ways that he displaced Joel Ward from the RB position this season.   He also performs the valuable function of freeing up funds for investment in other parts of your FPL team.

He is only 20 years old so he may end up rotating with Ward on occasions as he was rotated after playing 6 games straight towards the end of last season.

We are currently spoilt for choice with Palace defenders with the marauding attacking phenomenon that is £5.5m Van Aanholt and the defender playing as a midfielder in £4.5m Schlupp.

The fixtures are overall good but with Liverpool next it gives the option of leaving it 1 further week to sort out other areas of your team.  That’s if you can handle the price rise risk

Shaw

It was the Man Utd LB’s first goal in his professional career against Leicester on Friday night. I’m not 100% convinced Shaw is in Mourinho’s long term plans once Valencia and Young are both fully fit, however if he keeps putting in performances like Friday then Mourinho may alter his opinion from last season when he started 8 PL games. At £5.1m he’s a way to get representation into the United defence which did keep the most clean sheets last season with 19.

How many attacking returns after today you can expect is questionable though.  In 6 seasons before this one he’s never scored and got 6 assists in total in something like 8,000 minutes playing time

Mendy

A fairly spectacular attacking performance from the Man City supposed LB in getting 2 assists against Arsenal where he seemed to pop up everywhere from LW to CAM to CF.   Looked to get forward on every possible occasion.   That was also in a back 4.  Imagine the carnage if he is let loose as a wing back in a 3 man defence.  The City defence last season in my view was the best in the league so with Mendy you have the potential for clean sheets as well as attacking returns.

I don’t think you can get much better fixtures that Man City’s next 6. There’s 4 home games and all 6 are against the last two seasons promoted teams.

Mane

Mane was excellent against West Ham with 2 goals and a 16 point FPL haul.  He’s scored in the first game of the season for Liverpool for 3 seasons running now and even managed to get a 2nd this season as well. He looks even more dangerous this season, incredibly direct and happy to take on defenders.

Mane has potential to outscore and out assist last season as I think Keita coming in has meant he can now focus less on being a creator from deeper like he sometimes ended up doing towards the end of last season and more on scoring goals and being higher up the pitch with the ball.

Son

Came on for the last 10 minutes against Newcastle and didn’t do anything of note. Now Son heads off to the Asian games and could potentially not be back until September 1st so if you do have him currently he looks a pretty nailed on transfer out.  His place could mean a few solid weeks of gametime for £7.0m mid Moura.

Trippier

The Spurs RB Didn’t play against Newcastle which wasn’t a surprise with him coming back so late from the World Cup.  Spurs also have Aurier as cover meaning there was no reason to get him back unnecessarily.

Going off last season it seems that Trippier will be the first choice RB although with Aurier in place there is likely to be rotation.  It’s just in what competitions.  However he’s an exceptional attacking player with excellent assist potential.  It will just be whether you can handle the rotation risk.

However I’m not sure whether I’d be transferring him out before a Spurs home game to Fulham without at least hearing if the manager says anything useful in the Friday press conference.  It’s just how sensitive you are to a potential price drop and whatever you need to do with the rest of your FPL team.

Lovren

The Liverpool CB came back from international duty complaining about abdominal pains and seems to be out for at least the next 3 games.  He’s also had no preseason so far either. If you have him he seems a sensible transfer out. If you want to replace him with another Liverpool defensive asset then assuming you can’t afford £6.0m Robertson, then there’s £5.0m Trent Alexander-Arnold who seems to be the preferred RB.  He too does have rotation potential with Clyne.

Sane

The City LW was left on the bench in GW1 with Sterling surprisingly playing on the left and Mahrez on the right in a 4-1-4-1 formation.

Sane has been criticised by Pep in pre-season regarding fitness levels and his lack of pressing and although he  started in the Community Shield he was taken off at half time.

Given the above you’d be expecting him to be on the bench for GW2.  However it’s impossible to predict what Pep is going to do.

Shaqiri

Shaqiri was brought into Liverpool as an off the bench option and rotation option for Mane and Salah. He may play on occasion as a number 10 or even in a midfield 3 but I don’t think that’ll be a particularly common occurrence. He’s a fantastic player for £7.5m if he was playing but trying to take RW off Salah or LW off Mane is going to be a very difficult task.

He did come on for 9 minutes against West Ham but I don’t see starting many games unless there is an injury to one of Liverpool’s front three.
