FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW20 WILDCARD TIPS – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our regular fantasy premier league GW20 wildcard tips article where we pretend we have a wildcard to use. The aim is to give more longevity to player picks than just the next gameweek

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW20 WILDCARD TIPS – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

Unfortunately the short turnaround means there’s no time for player ranking articles so our imaginary wildcard article comes without that support.  There is some narrative below the team behind the picks.  By the way here’s the link to my recent 2nd wildcard article

Here’s the team:

The team is a little pricey at around £106.5m. Remember that the prices shown are my buy and sell prices and may differ from your own

In goal I’ve gone for 2 cheap GKs for save points.  Stoke have some reasonable fixtures despite being unable to defend against the top ranked teams and I’m hoping Hennessey of Palace will benefit from the so called “Big Sam” effect

In defence I start with Alonso of Chelsea.  Despite his cost for me the Chelsea defence is essential and statistically miles in front of any other defence. In my mind there’s real value in the Manchester teams defence at the moment.  They may have a rotation risk and may not have performed as you would have liked but the prices are crazy good for the teams they are in.  To me the price means they are worth the risk and sometimes frustration and lack of attacking potential. WBA’s  Brunt is an attacking option.  It’s not often you get an FPL defender playing in the attacking 3 midfield places and with set pieces but Brunt is a rare specimen in that regard.  Add to that WBA having good fixtures and he’s worth the extra money over a couple of his colleagues

Lastly I’ve gone for Ake.  I really should have gone for Chambers or Friend of Middlesboro as they have the best cheap defence but sentiment got to me.  It shows the bad run I’ve been on up to Kanes goals yesterday when the £4.3m Bournemouth defender has been my star in recent games.

In midfield Sanchez as a striker or LAM is a must with Arsenals fixtures coming up.  After that it’s trickier.  I’ve gone for Phillips who has form and fixtures for WBA.  Jay Rodriguez for Southampton hopefully should go back to his striker position after being rested in GW19 is the other cheap pick.

De Roon is still the best cheap bench filling midfield player for me

The last midfield spot is the tricky one.  With Sunderland, Swansea and Hull in the next 6 it’s hard not to have a Liverpool player in the team. A choice between Lallana and Firmino with Coutinho injured and Mane going to AFCON.   Lallana has the form over Firmino who has only had 1 returning game in the last 7.  Lallana should play in the front 3 with Coutinho injured and Mane at AFCON but Coutinho isn’t that far away and that could push Lallana back.  Lallana’s lack of underlying stats and deeper position make me nervous about sustainability of points. Don’t get me wrong though he is a good pick.  His runs from midfield definitely pass the eye test

I’ve gone for the premium front 3.  Aguero and Ibrahimovic are the 2 premium strikers for me that I would start with.  After that it becomes a Chelsea choice between Hazard in midfield and Costa up front and Costa easily wins that.  Plus the midfield alternatives look better to Hazard than they do for Costa.  Rondon or Benteke would have been my cheap striker choices but I wouldn’t want Phillips and Rondon.  Benteke just doesn’t look right at the moment.

That’s it, gives you some help with your transfers.
