fantasy premier league GW23 transfer tips – Keith Spencer reacts early to the Kane and Alexander Arnold injuries

Here’s a short fantasy premier league GW23 transfer tips article where FFGeek contributor Keith Spencer reacts to yesterdays news about injuries to Alexander Arnold and Harry Kane.  Keith is one of the 10 top FPL managers I follow and finished with an OR of 3,940 last season, 325 in 16/17 and 9,280 in 15/16.

Geek introductory note

Keith made the transfers below on Tuesday.

You can follow Keiths progress this season in our 10 top FPL managers articles.  These are managers who finished in the top 10k each of the last 3 seasons.  Keith also shows his team each week in our FFGeek contributors articles

Here’s Spurs tweet on the Harry Kane injury:

Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that @HKane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday’s match.

He will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March.

This is how the Guardian amongst others reported the Alexander Arnold injury:

Trent Alexander-Arnold facing up to a month on the sidelines with a knee problem.

The 20-year-old sustained the injury during the warm-up at Brighton on Saturday. He was able to play the full 90 minutes of Liverpool’s 1-0 win but tests have revealed a minor ligament issue that is likely to rule out the right-back for around four weeks.

Keith’s transfers

This week I decided to make my transfers early as I was afraid of price rises and I was thinking about doing them anyway. Kane’s injury, now confirmed, over the weekend further let me know that I think it was time to make the jump. I still am afraid as I don’t have City cover; however, I am falling behind in some of my leagues and this is the time of the year where I will look at players now in two groups (6 game week and 9 game week chunks and start to prepare for the double and blank  game weeks ahead).

Here’s my transfer plan which was written before the Alexander Arnold injury:

I will also have in the back of my mind GW25 as a very outside prospect of postponements for  the BGW in 27.

The Everton – Man City game will have to be rescheduled and it looks like Tottenham (GW 27 v Burnley) probably will go through against Chelsea (GW 27 v Brighton) as they are leading (1-0) but that might even be in some debate going back to the Kane injury.

Also in GW 31 (FA Cup Quarters) there is only one fixture that is guaranteed to play at this point and that is Fulham v Liverpool and will be a tasty fixture but just something else in the back of my mind and hopefully it’s in the back of yours!

So after I had made the initial transfers of Aubameyang and Alisson in for Kane and Fabianski out, I then had to react to the Alexander Arnold injury.  I have transferred him out for Luke Shaw for the 2 nice fixtures coming up and hopefully Man Utd’s  improved defensive resolve.  All for a minus 8 points.

I thought about it but decided not to wildcard this week and take the -8 instead. It’s a calculated risk for me as I think the blank and DGWs will need a wildcard plus planning this year.

Here’s how the team looks:

  1. Nice article Keith, my choice as I already have aubam is
    1. Kane & Taa to Aguero & VVD
    2. Kane & Taa to Firmino & Robertson
    3. Kane & Taa to Firmino & VVD (to leave money to get aguero in next gw maybe)
    Any ideas?

  2. Nice move Keith!
I have TAA Son and kANE, BUT i WILL DO ONLY -4, for TAA and Kane, and will do Son next week.
I just don’t know what to decide from these 2 options:
    1) Trippier and Firmino
    2) Robertson and Auba
    Love to hear your thoughts

    • I would do 2. Spurs with Kane don’t seem powerful going forward especially now with the injuries to other Mids and Son gone

  3. Hi Yaniv, just like I (for this week only in fear of Alonso dropping and TAA dropping overnight) committed the cardinal crime of not waiting for Friday to make the transfer with the result of having Kane and TAA to resolve…

My cup opponent for next round has both sane and Pogba…, So if I do a -4 or -8 for them, then I would simply be lagging behind….so shall I take in sterling(with great next two fixtures) and deeney or simply stones and Aguero/auba ? Please give your views…

And moreover is it worth removing TAA as he’s out only for maybe two weeks and there’s a long gap between their next 2 fixtures…

  4. Hi NS few comments, TAA is out for around 4 weeks and not 2… I wouldn’t do Kun as he is not a sure starter for next 2 gw (I guess he will start in 1), Auba can score vs Chelsea and next game is Cardiff at home , so I would go Auba plus Iprefer double up on Liverpool if you have the cash go for VVD, shaw as you mentioned it’s a nice idea, although with Ola system they play through the middle mostly with Pog so no attacking returns Ican see from him.
    Good luck
