Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 4 seasons overall ranks are 17k, 36k, 17k and 21k.

GW23 points: 81 (FPL average 56) Total points 1,470, Overall Rank: 44k, green arrow  20k Team Value: £104.1m

Here’s the points:

So a 20k green arrow to an overall rank of 44k.  Total points 1,470

However I am very annoyed with myself for breaking my own rules about bench lineup. Soucek was £2.90 Anytime to Score and Calvert Lewin £2.70 so Calvert Lewin should have started not Soucek but I deviated from my policy due to last weeks Soucek points.

Team structure

So if you are a regular reader then you’ll know that I define the template as being if the group of 10 top FPL managers I follow own 7 of them.  If they own someone different it’s called a template replacement player and players who are neither are either difference makers or bench players.

At the moment the template is extremely strong and there are 12, believe it or not, of which I have them all

Here’s the schedule for my team.  The template is the strongest it’s been all season

Transfer thoughts

2 free transfers and £2.3m in the bank

DGW24 and DGW25

Both of these are double gameweeks

Everton v Man City is now in GW24

Burnley v Fulham is now in GW24

Leeds v Southampton is now in GW25

here’s the fixtures for these teams:

Everton in GW24 play Fulham (H) and Man City (H)

Man City in GW24 play Spurs (H) and Everton (A)

Burnley in GW24 C Palace (A) and Fulham (H)

Fulham in GW24 play Everton (A) and Burnley (A)

Leeds in GW25 play Wolves (A) and Southampton (H)

Southampton in GW25 play Chelsea (H) and Leeds (A)

DGW26 and blank GW29

The theory is that the games in GW29 postponed due to FA Cup quarter final fixture clashes with GW29 PL games will go into GW26 to create a big DGW26.  Leaving a small number of games in GW29.  I projected about 4 fixtures left in GW29 depending on results.

However there are still the remaining postponements to be rearranged:

Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur
Aston Villa v Everton

Fulham v Tottenham Hotspur

Man City v Southampton

In theory, because of these postponements, I think there are teams that can have a DGW26 and a blank GW29 depending on where the postponements are put.  That would make it easier to use your bench boost in GW26 as going from DGW26 to potentially 4 fixtures in BGW29 without a Free Hit would be difficult.

We will have the quarter final draw on Thursday so should be able to make an assessment then.

Without going into too much detail on the postponed fixtures, I personally don’t understand why Villa v Everton didn’t go into GW25?  To me this fixture could go in any midweek?  As we’ve seen, I think Covid will mean there can be clashes with European games as long as the team itself doesn’t play in Europe.

However, should these teams have blanks in GW29 due to cup postponements then the postponed fixtures could go into that gameweek.  That is especially the case with Spurs as if they beat Wolfsburg (or RZ Pellets WAC as they are weirdly known) then they will have no midweek gaps until GW29. It will obviously depend on FA Cup results.

Man City don’t play in the Champions League midweek of GW27 so  presumably their postponement could go there as an alternative?

I hope this makes sense.  I have no special knowledge of this so please correct me in the comments if you disagree

What does this mean for me?

Of my 2 free transfers the only 1 I am thinking of for the moment is Button out to Pope in as it’s always handy to have a DGW keeper.   That would leave me with 2 transfers for GW25 if I can’t think of another for GW24 at the moment.  I have 3 City players and Calvert Lewin.  Pope would give me 5 double gameweek players.  I would still have 1 free transfer

If I’m going to use my bench boost for GW26 then I would play my wildcard in GW25 so I would use that extra transfer in GW24.  That’s a  difficult wildcard as Leeds can’t have a DGW26.

If I don’t use my bench boost then I will wildcard in DGW26 and hope to bridge the gap in someway to BGW29.

I’ll have to mull this over this week.

I think City players are the obvious target but I’m going to see what the polls say.  Vice could also be tricky.  I could put that on Pope.

Lineup issues

Soucek vs Son at Man City vs Bamford at Arsenal is the decision to be made

Here’s the team prior to any transfers

Pretend Button is Pope

  1. Geek , is it not worth considering 2 Burnley defensive assets this week with their fixtures ? I was considering 2 and possibly Calvert Lewin for a hit.

  2. If most of your players have a DGW 26 is it not a waste to WC just before? I was considering 3 Leeds for 25, then bench boosting 26 with the Leeds boys only playing once. Leeds play in 29 I believe, so keep them for that. Then WC out of 29. Any thoughts on that?

  3. What about bringing in Pope and Mee for Button and KWP and bench boosting? Then WC25 with a couple of leeds, maybe some Southampton due to potential prob DGWs 26 and 27. Transfer one Leeds out for a DGW’er ahead of 26 (or leave in if no FH) and bench the other/s. I haven’t fully run the math but you’ll likely end up with more playing. Caveat: All fixture dependant.

  4. I don’t like bringing in burnley players for a double gameweek… After that you will want them out. Pope is also expensive. And it is ‘just’ burnley… They can very well play a 1-1 twice. I will only transfer players that I would also want in a single gw.

  5. I will be making late decisions this week as we will know who has blanks in GW29 and have a better idea and possibly know eaxactly what is happening in GW26.

One option I am considering is trying to keep my WC, until GW30 using my transfers to get as many players as a I can in GW29 (which wioll probably only involve 1 or 2 of the big clubs) and then WC out of the mess that makes.

  6. Thoughts on what to do if you still have your Free Hit to play? Load up on those with the double or hold for now? Still have Bench Boost and Wildcard.

    • I’m in the same boat with all chips left.

I keep seeing a lot of ppl talking about wc30, is that primarily for those with fh left (so would need to clear gw29 dross)?

  7. If you guys have all those chips, that is awesome, but can backfire also. I kind of wasted my chips, so here is what I would do:

-wc: do not use this to boost your team for a double gameweek, because then you will probably also BB and you will stuck with quality players on the bench and losing every kind of flexibility. I would use wc to clean up after a big double gw and have a solid team for the rest of the season.

-bb: covid can mess up a lot of things and we have seen that many double gw player score just 1-2 points total, and rotation is also an issue in these situations. I would basically bb in any week where I have at least 3 playing subs and the matches are fairly decent. This way you will not need to worry about having quality players on your bench, you can instead just have some bench players and save the funds for your starting eleven. I think the matchup is more important than the fact that a player plays twice. Look Son and Kane. They almost scored 10 points each within 15 minutes during the last double gw, and they just had one match. The post saved that haul, and yet they scored more points than the majority of the double gw players. So long story short, do not worry about the double gw, use is when there is a good chance, preferably before your wc, so you can clean up your bench after that

-fh: probably i would just have it for the double gw and this way I would not have to make 4-5 transfers in advance to make a strong double gw, and have it all ruined with a postponed match because of covid.

So that’s how i see it, hope you find it useful.
