Here’s our fantasy premier league GW28 tips article where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers where in the last 3 seasons none have finished outside the top 10k. The top 10 Managers have played 30 times in the last 3 years and none have finished outside the top 10k in that time. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection. A reasonable week with 7 green arrows and a reasonable improvement of the average.  However a number used their triple captain chip in this gameweek

The stats of the top 10 managers are incredible again this season.

1. The overall average finishing position of the top 10 managers is 2,943

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 years (ie 30 times playing)

3. 9 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000

A mixed week for the top 10 FPL managers. 5 of the 10 had green arrows.

The average score of the managers in GW27 was 75 compared to the average of 50. Thats 25 points and 50% above the average score. The high score of the 10 was 103. The low score was 62. A big spread of 41 for the gameweek.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers saw a reasonable improvement of rank to 179k compared to the last gameweek of 204k. An average rank improvement of rank of 25k. The best rank is less than 100 and the lowest 704k. A couple of scores are distorting the average. If you calculated the median rank then that improved very slightly to 138k compared to 139k last gameweek. An improvement of rank of 1k. At the moment 4 have overall ranks inside 100k. 2 are inside the top 10k.

The average value sees a slight improvement to £105.2 from £105.1m in the last gameweek

If you’re interested my score was reasonably good at 79. Only 2 of the managers had a gameweek higher score. My overall rank is now 255k compared to 362k last gameweek. An improvement of rank of 107k. I’m now ahead of 2 of the top 10 managers. My team value is low in comparison at £101.9m. An improvement from the last gameweek of £101.5m. My total score is 1435 points.

Here’s a comparison with the how the top 10k overall rank average team looks like. The information is provided by the excellent site FPL discovery.

The top 10k average score was 66 compared to the Top FPL managers of 75.

The top 10 fpl managers I follow have some big differences (30% difference is the benchmark) with the top 10k rank. Here they are:

The top 10k favour the following significantly more than the managers I follow:

Walker, Sanchez and McAuley

The 10 Managers I follow favour the following more significantly than the top 10k

Foster, Pickford, Jakupovic, Alonso, Brunt, Coleman,  Holebas, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Mane and Aguero

Again we focus on the managers team who last season finished the highest of my then top 10 FPL managers ending up in 1,400th position. This manager is the closest thing to a fantasy football celebrity there is due to his consistent results so we’ll keep an eye on him.

A good week. At present he has a 13k overall rank, an improvement in rank of 5k from the last gameweek of 18k. His total points are 1,548 after a good score of 79 this gameweek. Just to give you a bit of context his last 3 years overall rankings have been 1,450, 277 and 90.

Highest scorer

The highest scorer was 103 for what has been one of the lower placed managers.  He’s who’s now ranked 171k

Lowest scorer

A low score of 62 sees this manager fall to 233k.

So during the season I’ve been taking a tale of defences, captains and 1 or 2 player differences making a huge difference.

Well these 2 teams are the exception that I’ll try and paint as proving the rule.  Only 4 of the 11 starters are the same which is unusual considering a template of sorts is starting.  The captain is also the same.  The different formations slightly confuse things however.  13 points were different in defence despite the low scoring team playing 1 more defender.  However that was pretty much all Pieters.  Then 4 players in the attack made a difference of 28 points.  These teams are quite different so not too much to be learned there.

By the way the lowest scoring manager this weeks last 3 years ranks are 9,575 and 197 and 3,138

Here’s a team to represent the top 10 managers. It’s slightly higher than my team value of £101.5m

Here’s the core team of players owed by more than 50% of the FPL managers. The highlighted non grey ones are those above 50%

The core players are then 8: Aguero, Lukaku, Sigurdsson, Sterling, Mane, Coleman, Brunt and Alonso. Starting to look like more of a template now which is understandable going into the blank and double weeks.

If you cross reference this with the top 10k managers with players over 50% then by that only Lukaku is essential although Aguero is close.

  1. Geek, as you mention captaincy and defemses make all the difference, so it seems. Running with 7 of the 8 mentioned in your article (short just Alonso to bring Aguero in), I still can’t kick myself out of a wet paper bag. Aguero truly disappointed on Wednesday, not that his 1 goal performance against Sunderland was all that stellar. Yet not knowing what future DGWs will bring and the likelihood of potential players donning the triple captain chip, it made good sense to run Aguero out this weekend.

69 points isn’t what I expected this week with the triple captain chip in play, especially after 63 points to finish up the weekend matches. Mane impressed and while I intended to transfer him, it appears he has played his way into starting for an undetermined amount of time. Sterling, picked up for GW27 will be transferred out, as well Aguero. Llorente will come in for Aguero this week, but potentially last only 1 week as I want to secure Kane from GW29 on.

    GW27 Retrospect –

  2. Hey, guys
I have already used my FT but i need to make changes in order to get any points in GW28. Want to get rid off Stanislas or Philips and can’t decide who can replace them keeping in mind that i want to buy back Sanchez in GW29. Have 5.7 in a bank.
Another option is to buy Coutinho for Stanislas/Philips and sell Aguero in 29 then i have no idea who can replace the forward place. Any advice?

    Stanislas Philips DeRoon Mane Sigurdson
    Aguero Carroll Lukaku

    • Ryan Fraser 4.8
      Fer 4.8
      Davies 4.4

They would be my only suggestions if you’re looking to get Sanchez back in

    • I off Stanilas in favor of King, who’s on pens and playing well for the short term. I do like the Coutinho move, well be the second L’pool midfielder for me this coming week. I would not hesitate selling Aguero in favor of Llorente or even Gabbiadini, who has outstanding underlying stats (16 attempts!). So’ton has Spurs this week, followed by Bournemouth and Palace at home. I wouldn’t be looking to get Sanchez back in immediate. It was in my plans after the blank in GW28, but being bench has me reconsidering and will give him WBA and Man City to see how he comes out.
