I’ve covered my team review and a few thoughts in more detail in my earlier YouTube Video.

I’ve now made my transfers for this week. The transfers are: White and Jota out and Duffy and Benrahma in.

A few thoughts on the thinking behind these. First of all, I needed a 3rd playing defender. Amartey will almost certainly lose his place as soon as Vestergaard is fit and Veltman and White are both out until after the international break with Covid-19 issues. I wanted to bring in someone as cheap as possible so the candidates were Duffy and Livramento. I’ve favoured Duffy to give me Brighton cover as this aligns a little bit with the template more. I don’t have Sanchez and I am resigned to holding Bachmann until I Wildcard, so I feel Duffy gives me the cover I need here.

I’ve transferred out White over Veltman here as I’m really not sold on the Arsenal defence at all (despite good fixtures in GW4 & 5) and also because I think Duffy and Veltman kind of cover each other when Veltman is fit in terms of gametime. (One of them is pretty sure to start at least you’d think… !!!) Livramento is an interesting one in terms of potentially ending up as an out of position player as a wing-back, but as Kev alluded to on the Pod this week I really just don’t like the Saints defensive prospects at the moment. He’s one I’ll watch though.

I debated quite a bit over the last night or two as to how to work Benrahma in. It was always going to be for either Jota or Barnes and both have pros and cons. Jota has been in much better form, but Liverpool have Chelsea this week and with the Champions League starting soon, I can see him being rotated more with Firmino and possibly Oxlade-Chamberlain. Barnes has showed no form so far and there is a thought that is place is at risk. However he’s got a great fixture versus Norwich this week and I think his place is probably safe with Perez suspended. Selling Jota also gives me an extra £0.6m in the bank so I’ve sold him, albeit slightly reluctantly I must say.

Looking further forward, ideally I would have held a free transfer over the international window and I would encourage other managers to do this if they can, but I think the £1.8m I have in the bank is a good alternative to this. My GW4 plan will be to bring in Calvert-Lewin – either for Toney or Ings with possibly a -4 alongside this to move Barnes on. I’ve got my eye on a couple of players as his replacement for a -4 in GW4 or if I don’t take the it, I’ll almost certainly go with Raphinha in GW5. I’d then try and roll in GW6 , before selling Salah in GW7 where Pool play City to generate funds for Lukaku that week. I’d then Wildcard in GW8 in the second international break. I’m still open to a GW4 Wildcard though if I have more injury/Covid issues.

As for this week’s team, I’ve got one selection issue – do I start Amartey in case he gets gametime or just go straight for Duffy? At the moment the clean sheet odds are the same for each. I’ve got Duffy in the spot at the moment, but this could change pre-deadline. Captain is Antonio. As usual, I’ll put my final team on Twitter pre-deadline, likely Saturday morning. Good Luck everyone and I hope you enjoy the games!
