The Bandwagons

These are the 4 most transferred IN players so far in the gameweek

Pukki

If you score a hat trick and cost £6.5m then you’re pretty much guaranteed to lead the transfers in come the morning after.  That’s the case with Teemu Pukki who scored 3 for Norwich after scoring at Anfield in the opening game.

It’s hard to predict how Championship strikers will adjust to the Premier League but 4 goals in the first 2 games is a pretty good start.  For every Chris Wood who’s been a reasonable success after top scoring in the Championship there’s a Vydra or Jerome who haven’t quite adjusted.  29 goals though for Pukki in the Championship is some record.

The underlying stats are in the Aguero type stratosphere at the moment so they will undoubtedly calm down but it’s a great start.  The initial fixtures could be better and  the fact that you’re stepping into the unknown with him are the risk elements

Ceballos

There’s no doubt what a fantastic 2 assist 11 FPL points  performance it was against  Burnley for the loanee from Real Madrid.  The fact that Real Madrid refused to allow a buy option in the agreement shows how highly valued he is.

However a stroll through his returns and underlying stats shows there’s very little to suggest that he’s going to continue in this vein.  In 6,000 minutes of playing time (close to 2 seasons) he’s got 7 goals and 6 assists and in 1200 minutes for Real Madrid last season it was 0 assists and 3 goals.  Even when you isolate him in the CAM position he occupied v Burnley it doesn’t get an rosier.

Of course you can tell me “I know what I saw with my own eyes and that was a fantastic performance” of which I totally agree.  I saw it too.  You are just going forward with no stats as a comfort blanket into 2 very tricky fixtures next

De Bruyne

3 assists, 18 FPL points in his first 2 games and De Bruyne looks back to his best.  He looked less like the 3 assists in 968 minutes of last season and more like the 39 assists in the 2 previous seasons to that.  However if you look closer 18/19 was more of an indictment on his team mates than De Bruyne as his xA90 was significantly better than previous seasons believe it or not.  It’s just that his team mates kept missing the chances whereas in previous seasons they were over performing.  That does show you that he  is a slave to his team mates finishing as although he shoots in reasonable volumes his xG is quite low and you tend to rely on the odd screamer to take up the slack.  However if you’re going to be reliant on your team mates finishing you could do alot worse than Aguero and Sterling

Sterling

4 goals and 26 FPL points after a 234 FPL points 17 goals and 15 assists in 18/19.  It’s impossible to think that anyone could do the quadruple double of 20 goals and 20 assists.  However if anyone is then it’s only Sterling who could.

Fixtures are good.  What more needs to be said?

The Sinking Ships

These are the 4 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek

Salah

It seems that at £12.5m that you can’t blank in 1 game without suddenly needing to find yourself baling out water as you head to the bottom of the sea as the primary sinking ship.  Despite his 12 points in gameweek 1 there’s obviously a large group of FPL managers who think that his team mate Mane is adequate cover.  That was given more credence by Mane’s 13 points vs Southampton.

There’s no doubt that his underlying stats are definitely not in the region of where you would want him to be but they’re not a million miles away and he should also have alot more penalty opportunities as Milners gametime naturally reduces.

Fraser

2 blanks against 2 promoted sides aren’t going to win you any friends that’s for sure and Ryan Fraser is feeling the effects here.  His last season of an xA90 of 0.46 vs the 2 previous seasons of 0.12 and 0.18 are always going put some element of risk going into the season even if he hasn’t been fully priced at that elite assister level.  Well he’s started the season off with an xA90 of 0.07 so while I imagined some drop off was probably unavoidable,  this is falling off a cliff Road Runner style.

With Man City next it becomes a pretty easy exit point

Bernardo Silva

A no show in GW1 with Pep having one of his usual injury amnesia events in the pre game press conference and then a blank in GW2 with a 79 minute substitution just to cap it off.  It’s not a recipe for FPL manager loyalty that’s for sure.

To be fair there are worse blanks than a 5 shot 1 key pass blank against a top 6 side but his PPM of 4.3 last season isn’t anything to write home about when you got other, albeit more expensive, options to go at with your 3 City places.

Robertson

If your eyes are telling you that everything’s not rosy in the Liverpool defence that obtained the most clean sheets and conceded the least goals last season then you’re not wrong.  Forget the 2 goals conceded and the no clean sheets in the first 2 games. The underlying stats show that things are not tickety-boo by any stretch of the imagination.

Now while were only looking at 2 games, the shots conceded per game have gone up from 8 to 13 and the tackles have reduced from 16 to 14 although the opposition having slightly more possession.  The xG against per game has gone up from 0.77 to 1.36.  That’s close to doubling.  Now it is only 2 games but none of that is not good.  To make matters worse Robertson’s assist related underlying stats have gone the same Road Runner cliff way that Frasers have gone to.  He’s made 2 key passes in 2 games and believe me they are not high value chances any any stretch.

Si, if you were wavering on the defence then the sight of Aubameyang and Lacazette heading to Anfield this week may just be the thing you need to get your finger hovering over the transfer button.
