fantasy premier league GW30 best defenders and defences

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view for the fantasy premier league GW30 best defenders and defences. It’s a new format with mopre info to help you make an assessment for your team.  I’ve used a number of stats, actual and underlying. I’ve kept with the blended home and away version rather than splitting them out. There’s also the premium attacking defender and the value defender. I’ve also given you the value of the player as at Thursday 10 March

I’ve provided the information in a very simple table form with a few general notes below and an attempted explanation for any surprises. I’ve tried to sacrifice some value and attacking where there isn’t a decent amount of gametime security. Thats even more important at this stage of the season with blank weeks coming up. Obviously in the top 4 challenging teams the squad sizes and the number of games sees that rotation can be a risk so it’s impossible to be 100% . I’ve also added my fixture ease ranking as a proxy for defensive fixtures although it is intended as an attacking fixture check. It doesn’t speculate though on DGWs so those aren’t included.  The first number is the ranking ease of the next 6 fixtures and the 2nd number is the next 3. It’s also important read the notes on each club .   The stats are over the season. In the narrative I’ve tried to deal with a cheapie watch and injury issues which will help you make an assessment on your view of the best transfer.  I also touch on the GKs where relevant.

Man Utd – looking back to something near full strength defensively and it should start resembling the first team rather than their U21’s

Arsenal – Hard to back at the moment with key injuries to Koscielny and GK Cech.  Even Gabriel isn’t out of the woods

Tottenham – Looking  strong defensively.  Wimmer is the cheapie but Vertonghen is back in a few weeks.

Man City – A lot of rotation makes it difficult to have gametime certainty unless you go for GK Hart

Liverpool – Alot of injuries and selection tweaks make them difficult to predict.  I would stay with Clyne as the most gametime secure.  Fantastic unrewared underlying stats is the reason why I’ve ranked them so highly and I back them to improve their clean sheet haul.  Consider the GK Mignolet for the 2 DGWs

Southampton – A big division between cheap and expensive.  Hard to rely on the gametime security of cheapies Targett, Martina and Yoshida and even Soares.  GK Forster has been delivering clean sheets by himself.  However  none in the last 3.  Have his superhuman powers blunted?

Watford – A solid cheap option with players all at similar prices.  No really attacking option though.  The GK Gomes is a reasonable option

Leicester – Simpson is the cheapie.  Then it’s a choice between the attacking potential of Huth and the bonus maget that is Fuchs

Stoke – A similar picture to Southampton.  Butland doesn’t seem to be able to singlehandedly deliver clean sheets as he was earlier in the season.

WBA – Blunted Pulis magic but Dawson looks a great attacking option.  Hard to guarantee gametime security to cheapie Olsson.

West Ham – Another team who seem to have being overperforming and concede alot of shots.  Creswell a good attacking, if expensive option.

Everton – look anything but defensively secure and too expensive for the returns.  GK Robles though looks a great cheap option at £4.3m with 2 DGWs to come and will accrue plenty of save points even without clean sheets

C Palace – just seem to have fallen off a cliff

Bournemouth – Do have some underlying stats which could suggest improvement.  Certainly some good cheap options and have the only defensive player in former winger now LB Charlie Daniels to have penalties.

Swansea – Rangel should be the safe £4.1m cheapie but Williams is the bonus point monster and secure gametime option

A Villa – A defensive disaster

Newcastle – Another defensive disaster.  GK Elliot as a cheap DGW GK.

Norwich – a mixture of 10 men in the penalty area or facing a wave of goals against.  Disaster number 3.

Sunderland –  recent acquisitions and some performances give them some hope of stemming the tide
