SOME THOUGHTS ON SALAH AND AUBAMEYANG

SALAH

Here’s Salah’s away games against non top 6 opposition:

Salah has started 10 away games against non top 6 opposition games. He’s got a goal or assist in 8 of the 10 games against the non top 6 sides. There have been 4 double figure hauls.

In only 3 games his underlying stats were below a reasonable standard for a striker.

He should have penalty duties.  It’s worth noting he has a midweek UCL match v City so he could be at risk of being subbed if they get ahead significantly.

The Palace home defence

At home Palace are ranked 16th in goals conceded with 23. In expected goals away they are better in 11th.

There have been 3 comparable games away against top 6 sides for Palace

Rd 8 Chelsea 2-1 (xGA 0.65 and 15 shots 6 in the box)

Rd 20 Arsenal 2-3 (xGA 1.86 and 16 shots 10 in the box)

Rd 21 Man City 0-0 (xGA 1.10 and 15 shots 5 in the box)

Rd 28 Spurs 0-1 (xGA 1.65 and 14 shots 10 in the box)

Rd 29 Man Utd 2-3 (xGA 1.26 and 17 shots 8 in the box)

Injuries in defence been an issue but with Sakho back they should be stronger. The reverse fixture Palace lost 0-1

Aubameyang

Here’s Aubameyangs home games against non top 6 opposition:

Aubameyang has started 2 home against non top 6 opposition games. He’s got a goal or assist in 2 of the 2 games. There has been no double figure haul.

His underlying stats were excellent in both games.

The Stoke away defence

Away Stoke are ranked 19th  in goals conceded with 33. In expected goals away they are better in 16th.

There have been 3 comparable games away against top 6 sides for Stoke

Rd 8 Man City 2-7 (xGA 4.45 and 20 shots 12 in the box)

Rd 16 Spurs 1-5 (xGA 4.02 and 20 shots 12 in the box)

Rd 21 Chelsea 0-5 (xGA 3.10 and 21 shots 9 in the box)

Rd 23 Man U 0-3 (xGA 1.95 and 20 shots 12 in the box)

 The reverse fixture was 1-0 to Stoke

SUMMARY

The bookies have Salah at £1.67 and Aubameyang at £1.70

The Polls have Salah by a good distance.

Salah should have pens.

 Salah has fantastic stats and to be fair so does Aubameyang but only for 2 games

 The Palace home defence has been reasonably good.  Stoke away have been terrible

THE FFGEEK CHOICE

 So a tricky one.  There’s no doubting how fantastic Salah has been and to be fair he’s done against the top 6 sides as well as the ones lower down.  Aubameyang has started well and there’s no doubting his pedigree from Germany but he’s played 5 games and only 2 at home against non top 6 opposition.

However the standard of the Stoke defensive stats is appalling.  Now that was all pre the manager Lambert but he’s yet to be tested as to whether he’s improved them against better sides.

I started this thinking I would definitely go with Salah but the Stoke defence has been so appalling that it has got me thinking.  Also there is some risk of Salah being subbed if they get comfortably ahead v Palace

I’m going to sleep on it and tweet what I do tomorrow morning.
