Introduction

Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 4 seasons overall ranks are 17k, 36k, 17k and 21k.

GW31 review

GW31 points 61 on Wildcard (FPL average 41) Total points 2,012, Overall Rank: 32k, green arrow 8k.  Team Value: £102.8m

I’still have my triple captain chip available

Here’s the points:

So an 8K green arrow to 32k with the wildcard. 4 returners is a pretty standard return rate but luckily 2 were double figures which is why I ended up with the green arrow. At least I got a green arrow for this wildcard unlike my first one which was a hefty red.

The miss was obviously not having Alexander Arnold but this is where my team value of now £102.8m came back to bite me as to have him I would have had to have sacrificed Jota or Lingard which I didn’t want to do at the time.

The 20 point bench is not something I’m going to get hung up about. I’ve made the conscious decision to have all players with points potential for rotation/injury and the blank GW33 so I can’t really complain when there’s points on the bench.

It does mean that I’m probably going to end up playing 3-5-2 and having difficult battle with the defender benching each week as both Holding and Castagne have good fixtures going forward

I’m not worried about the Chelsea or Man City defence as the teams conceded 1 and 2 shots respectively in their GW31 matches and the opposition scored from each of those shots so there’s no underlying problem in my mind. BTW I review matches in detail on the FFGeek Patreon site if you want more insight on individual matches

It will be interesting to see how much focus the template has on Bruno Fernandes at the moment. It’s 1 goal (the Man City pen) and 1 assist in his last 6 PL games. He has Burnley and Leeds next and is only a small seller in the transfers out at the moment but he’s too expensive to not be returning. That would free up a bundle of cash as unless he’s template he’s not in my team.

Team structure

Regular readers will know that I categorise players as either Template, Template replacement, difference makers or bench players.

Template is defined by being owned by 7 of the 10 top FPL managers I follow. I generally have them in my team irrespective of my thoughts about them as it protects my rank downsize. The rest of the categories are, hopefully, self explanatory

The 4 wildcards and the fixture swings in GW31 meant that the template changed somewhat this week

Transfers

1 free transfer and £0.1m in the bank

The only player I would want to transfer in this week is Alexander Arnold but I would have to replace Phillips due to the 3 player limit and then would have to get rid of one of the Premiums of Salah, Fernandes or Kane to make up the gap. Fernandes would be the only realistic option of the 3 and I would love to ditch him but it would just be swapping 1 problem for another

Obviously Spurs have a double gameweek and I could do a straight swap of Castagne out for Reguilon but I just don’t think it’s worth it. Leicesters fixtures going forward are so good as well as WBA this week.

So realistically I think I’ll be carrying over the free transfer

Captain/Triple Captain thoughts

I’m pretty sure I’m going to triple captain Kane this week. Realistically I’m only ever going to captain him or Salah so to pass up a chance in a double gameweek with Southampton involved seems pretty risky. There is the chance of a double gameweek later in the season due to fixtures moving to allow supporters in the ground for the last 2 matches but that is far from certain so I can’t see me passing this opportunity up

So Kane Triple Captain is likely here

Lineup issues

So I’m pretty sure I’m going to stick to 3-5-2 given that I will always play Salah, Fernandes, Son and Kane. Jota, Iheanacho and Lingard have all shown double digit FPL points are available so dropping them to the bench given that high ceiling is difficult.

That means that each week I’m going to have to juggle my defence.

This week it’s no different and I definitely have regret that I squandered my bench boost as with only 1 Man City player at the moment that lessens the rotation risk.

I normally line my team up with the bookies odds and/or Joe’s transfer planner which had an excellent bench choosing record last season

So the bookies have put Holding and Phillips on the bench in that order. Vydra is last. I’ve kept it at that for the moment

Here’s the lineup

Assumes I carry over the free transfer. I haven’t activated the Triple Captain Chip as yet

Hope you had a good gameweek!
