Avoiding the preamble

If you just want a quick transfer suggestion I’ve given these after the schedule if you want to skip all the preamble.

Stats definitions:

I’ve firstly ordered the teams by what I think is their defensive strength based their goals conceded, xG conceded and the shots per game conceded. You can see the rank of each stat mentioned above in the first 3 columns.

The stats after that are their:

My suggested defender for that team. I’ve tried to take into account what I think is an appropriate price for the team as well as their attacking and points potential. The table then shows their value and current 19/20 PPM

The likely starting GK for the team with the same price and PPM next to them

A bookies odds for a clean sheet for GW33+ and in the case of DGW teams both games. The lower the better obviously.

The fixture ease rank. The team facing the easiest attacking teams over the next 6 gameweeks is ranked 1.

The Schedule

If you want access to copy and paste the schedule here’s the google spreadsheet link which I’ve set out differently if you want to sort different columns. Just go File> make a copy to get your own version

The teams are ranked by defensive strength only. Fixtures are not factored in.

Player suggestions for GW33+ and beyond

Liverpool

£2.20 is a big price for a home clean sheet against Villa and there must be anticipation of a heavily rotated defence at least.

I would still back Alexander Arnold until there is evidence that he’s being significantly rested.  £5.3m Gomez is the cheaper starter but he could share time with Matip and Lovren.

It remains to be seen if someone like £4.0m Nico Williams gets an extended run in the team.  He is an RB though so that presumably would affect Alexander Arnold.

I personally don’t think Alisson is worth the price in relation to alternative GKs

Man Utd

The Choice here is between £5.3m Maguire and Wan Bissaka who’s had 2 assists in his last 2 games.  So far I’ve chosen Maguire due to the fact that CBs should be less rotatable.  Wan Bissaka though has started and played 90 minutes in the last 12.

Before you get too excited over Wan Bissaka’s new attacking prowess it’s worth noting that he’s only made 7 key passes in the last 7 games so he’s still no Alexander Arnold.  His 2 assists have come from 3 key passes.

I personally don’t think De Gea is worth the price in relation to alternative GKs

Leicester

Leicester may not be ripping it up in the scoring stakes but it’s 2 clean sheets in the last 3 games.

Soyuncu still remains my favoured choice.  He has very slightly better bonus stats than £5.3 Evans although Evans has slightly better attacking stats.  If you’re not going for Soyuncu rather than Evans you may as well go for £5.6m Chilwell as the attacking option.  In theory he is probably more rotatable although Justin playing RB helps mitigate that risk.

I personally don’t think Schmeichel is worth the price in relation to alternative GKs

Chelsea

I’ve gone for Alonso here although £5.9m Azpilicueta is the safer choice.  Stats wise Alonso offers more goal threat but not particularly assist threat.  Alonso has started the last 5 so seems fairly safe but there is a world of difference between his attacking performances in a back 4 than it does as a wing back.  The 3 games as a wing back prior to the last 3 saw 12 shots and 7 key passes compared to the last 3 as a fullback which saw 4 shots and 1 key pass.

I personally don’t think Kepa is worth the price in relation to alternative GKs

Spurs

I think including them as a defensive unit is a bit of a stretch but Aurier offers a reasonable attacking threat.

Lloris is a good shot stopper with an excellent PPM but whether I would choose him over Aurier is debatable

The clean sheet schedule

My schedule tries to focus on the stats that will lead to clean sheets rather than clean sheets themselves but I thought it would be worth while getting the clean sheet schedule from the premier league site

Goalkeeper save %

Here’s another schedule which shows you a goalkeeper save %. It’s not a ranking in itself as you can see there’s no correlation between % and clean sheets but does give you some idea of GKs who are good shot stoppers. It’s from the free stats site fbref.com
