Introduction

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

See the part 1 contributors teams article here as well

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 3 seasons were 596k, 17k and 21k

GW34+ points: 89 on Triple Captain (FPL average 59) Total points 2,134 Overall Rank: 4k, green arrow 3k, Team Value: £103.0m

Sergio has used all his chips apart from the Free Hit chip.  He used the triple captain this week on De Bruyne

This was my triple captain week, which ended up as a small disappointment given that De Bruyne only picked up an assist in City’s 5-0 demolition of Newcastle. At least he got to 7 points clean sheet and bonus point included to make the use of the chip count for something. The rest of the week scores went mostly well for me reaching 89 points, thanks again to the United boys, Vardy, Salah and the Spurs clean sheet. Unfortunately I benched Aurier, so I missed on 8 points there. Also the loss of Wolves clean sheet in the last minute was a disappointment, as was Foden not getting in the points having had so many chances, particularly one from a De Bruyne pass. All in all, a positive week for me taking one more step towards a first top 10k finish thanks to a good 3k green arrow.

Once more, fixtures look good in paper for my team, and with 2 free transfers at disposal, I need to at least find what to use one of them for. Actually struggling to decide what to do, Aurier went out injured so it could be him if it looked like he won’t play. The more proactive move I was considering was to swap either Salah or KDB for Mane, if I thought that one of them could be benched. However this is a risky move if it doesn’t work out, so probably I will chicken out on it.

As for captain, plenty of good options again this week from Liverpool, United or even Vardy at Bournemouth. I am going to play it safe rankwise and go with Fernandes, who is on fire anyways, with Vardy as vice.

Good luck everyone !

Transfer summary:  to be confirmed

Here’s the team prior to any transfers being made

Scott Taylor

Scott finished with an overall rank of 1k last season and 12k in 17/18

GW34+ points: 70 (FPL average 59) Total points 2,098 Overall Rank: 16k, red arrow 3k, Team Value: £105.1m

Scott has used all his chips apart from the Free Hit chip

Transfers: Vardy and Armstrong in for Ayew and Son.

Captain: Vardy at the moment but it could change to Fernandes. I’ll keep an eye on the captain polls.

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

GW34+ points: 82 (FPL average 59) Total points 2,049 Overall Rank: 64k, green arrow 11k, Team Value: £104.6m

Kris has used all his chips

So a reasonable gameweek sees a 10k rank boost – overnight I’d creeped into the top 50k but Mr Fernandes put pay to that.

2FTs and 0.1 itb – I’m finding it tough to choose my transfer(s). I am also conscious that a number of my players (Salah, Alexander Arnold, Pulisic, De Bruyne, Jesus, Foden) are at risk of being benched!
The player of interest is Vardy at Bournemouth. He is a straight swap for Jesus, but Jesus looks like getting good minutes and has Bournemouth in gw36.

Greenwood is very cheap (and in great form) and therefore would require downgrading De Bruyne or Salah to get Vardy. That leaves Jimenez who’s blanked in the the last three. I need to raise an extra £1.5m to get Vardy. Although I fear benching for most of my midfield and Pulisic has a tough fixture at Sheffield United; if I sold any I’d want them back almost immediately.

So that leaves the defence and only Alexander Arnold and Doherty have sufficient value to work. Having seen a few people burnt on a Salah sale this week, that’s sufficient warning for me to keep Alexander Arnold. So my move would be either Doherty to another wolves (Boly or if prices move against me Saiss), Leicester (Justin); or West Ham (Cresswell) who play Norwich.

My alternative is to accept the risk of not owning Vardy and use just one transfer to replace the injured Holgate with Diop. The Bournemouth result might be enough to persuade me to make the Holgate to Diop move.

Salah captain. Vice captain Martial, who will become captain if I think Salah will be benched.

Summary of transfer decision:  Jimenez to Vardy, and Doherty to Boly/Saiss, Justin or Cresswell Holgate to Diop.

Good luck everyone

Here’s the team before any transfers

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 84k, 29k and 27k

GW34+ points: 74 -4 (FPL average 59) Total points 2,050 Overall Rank: 62k, red arrow 8k, Team Value: £103.3m

Costas has used all his chips

It was one of those weeks that you get all the 50-50 decisions wrong hence an 8k red arrow the third in a row.

To start I wanted De Bruyne back as I feared not owning him.   I had the cash to switch from Son but wanted him for the Bournemouth game and so I switched Salah…. Yep 18 points for Salah 1 for son.

I also started McCarthy instead of Pope so that’s a total of 22 less points, not to mention the wrong captain choice… Only good thing was Saiss out for Aurier that made the hit worth it.

This weeks transfer is Son out Sterling in. I am fed up with Spurs and feel I have to load on City. De Bruyne and Sterling is enough cover, hopefully they start the majority of games.

Captain is between Martial and Bruno Fernandes.  I might risk it a bit with Martial and go against the poll favorite that I am guessing will be Bruno.

Transfer summary:  Son out Sterling in

Finally we enter my waist size game week. 34+ LOL.

To give you my thoughts on the big questions that I’m seeing on twitter this week:

1. I’m just gonna keep De Gea and not flip my Man Utd team around. Greenwood has been great for me and I would maybe make a move if I didn’t have him (for the cash) but I don’t think it’s necessary.

2. There is an opportunity to target Bournemouth right now with forwards. Vardy this week and Jesus in two. I will be making those moves.

3. I think rotation keeps running wild for any team not fighting for Europe. I would captain Man Utd or Vardy this week. I have the Captain armband on Fernandes and VC on Vardy.

4. I think cheaper is better for Man City in midfield. I only want 2 and Jesus ideally, but if I had three I would probably go De Bruyne, Foden and either David Silva or Mahrez. They can all haul and all be benched. Why go Sterling for 3 or 4 million more unless you are being punty?

5. I think Jimenez is benchable at this time but he will play 90 and can become one of our favourite players again at any moment. I think he should still be fine if you don’t want to sell him.

Transfer Summary: Son to Foden and Deeney to Vardy.

C: Fernandes
VC: Vardy

Andrew Whitfield

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 6k last season and 19k in 17/18

– Well another gameweek full of drama. Man City now up to 86 goals scored, both Manchester clubs seem to be scoring for fun, Wolves concede in the last minute, Nketiah sent off within a minute of coming on, and Salah punishes his sellers with a haul !!

– 80 points was enough for a green arrow. Up from 164k to 149k. I was sitting on a 40k green arrow up to the final day.. but after a roller coaster week that promised much more, and could easily have delivered significantly more returns, and a week in which I lost count of the number of “nearlies”, I will take it and move on.

– Who would have thought that keeping hold of the man with the golden boot, Mo Salah would be a differential this week !! That and getting the right three Man Utd and Man City players of course.

Gameweek 34+ talking points:

– Pulisic got the week off to a great start with a 9 point haul. He has actually returned in all five games since the restart and Mount now blanked in all five games, so that definitely looks like one of my better transfers. He looks like scoring or assisting every time Chelsea attack and plays so advanced too. He could have had even more points too when he maybe got the final touch on Giroud’s goal.

– I went into the Man City v Newcastle game with hopes sky high. Captain De Bruyne and Foden named in the eleven as expected after sitting out the previous game. So far so good. Foden looked great playing both on the wing and then through the middle and incredibly and frustratingly he somehow missed two sitters !! So to end up with just one assist between Foden and De Bruyne in a 5-0 win when Jesus, Mahrez and Sterling all returned was hard to take. Captain De Bruyne was deeper at times but in a free floating role he was well advanced too. He could have had a lot more points than he did. On another day, De Bruyne could have had three assists and Foden two goals. Massive potential points “not landed”…it was a game that had a frustrating feel that almost produced much much more.

– The frustration was compounded by Doherty conceding in the last minute. However, most people had a Wolves defender and plenty had two. Boly was my first sub.

– Jimenez has three successive blanks which is surprising for Mr Consistent. Remember his wife is due to give birth soon too. I am holding for Everton at home. It’s a solid fixture. He will be a popular sell. I quite like the possible switch to Ings for when Ings has Brighton and Bournemouth. Jimenez won’t blank four in a row will he ??

– Mo Salah to the rescue !! His ownership levels amongst active players had dropped quite considerably to the point where Mo represented a surprise differential. A goal and assist in the first seven minutes sent shivers to his sellers. He added another and how he missed that header for a hat trick in the dying seconds I will never know. So with Mane blanking, my faith in holding Salah brought the rewards. With Salah now firmly in the chase for the golden boot, it’s a brave man who sells before Burnley at home. Salah looked unplayable. Will it be his turn for a rest though after Firmino and Mane sat out the previous two ?

– Yet another “shut out” for Nick Pope. He has more clean sheets than any other keeper. 29 points in his last four games. It’s Liverpool away next. Just when I need a sub keeper for one game, and I haven’t had the opportunity to ditch McCarthy after my bench boost, Pope has Liverpool and McCarthy has – Man Utd away !!.. I will stick with Pope and he should get plenty of save points. He still has Norwich and Brighton too.

– So my Man Utd trio of Maguire, Rashford and Fernandes took to the field at Villa on Thursday. I still feel like I have “the wrong three” with Greenwood and Martial seemingly returning every week. But the clean sheet was handy to offset things. Rashford is certainly not at his best, but again, he could easily have had two goals. Owning Fernandes is not fun when he is a “rank loser” when you don’t captain him. In fact, when you have a United defender, and don’t captain Bruno, you end up hiding behind the sofa when three of the four united attackers home in on goal !! I am again faced with taking points hits to get the “best three” and I am not doing that when transfers are like gold dust now.

So what next:

– I have one free transfer and 0.3M in the bank. A few options as always:

– I have Nketiah on the bench but suspended for three games out of the last four. And Lascelles flagged too after he missed the last game. But I don’t really want to use a precious transfer on a bench move when they will likely stay there with very few options at the price. So with Foden and Boly competing for 11th spot, I am going to run with 12 players. Lascelles might recover anyway. Nketiah has Watford at home last match so with everyone selling him for his three match ban, he could even be a great GW38 differential.

– With Man City firing in the goals, owning three attacking city assets is looking essential now with their fantastic fixtures. So a switch from Salah to Sterling or Mahrez looks a good option ( until Salah’s Wednesday show !! ) . Salah has Burnley at home but.. in the last three games, he has Arsenal and Chelsea, just when city have Bournemouth’s at home, Watford, and Norwich at home !!! I definitely want a 3rd city attacker there. So a GW36 switch from Salah to Sterling or Mahrez looks much less risky and full of points !! So that’s the plan. Hold Salah this week and then probably attack those Man City fixtures when Liverpool fixtures look much tougher by comparison.

– Danny Ings has Brighton and Bournemouth in his last three so he could be a swap in from Jimenez at the same time. I don’t like selling Jimenez any more than selling Salah but GW36 just fits great with the fixtures. I much prefer Jimenez at home to Everton than Ings at Man Utd, so that looks like a nice double switch for GW36.

– So if I roll the transfer this week, I could make those two planned transfers in GW36, and it would also leave me £1.5m in the bank for the last two gameweeks which could also prove very useful.

GW35 captain and line up:

It’s very tempting to jump on Salah now at home to Burnley. There is a strong chance of rotation, though I do expect him to play. With his “effective ownership” having dropped, I could probably still gain from his returns without the armband on him. Just owning him will be enough, so I could look to captain Bruno Fernandes, whose effective ownership amongst active players will be much higher. Then I potentially gain on both.. Man Utd v Southampton is not an easy fixture but United, and especially Fernandes, are on fire. I want to enjoy watching Fernandes play without worrying about losing rank on him if I don’t captain him. So that’s likely where I will be heading. It’s also the last game of the gameweek, so its good to have that in your locker still going into the last match.

– With Foden having started the last game, and trying to second guess Pep and his policy of definitely starting players after a rest, and possibly resting them after a start ( !! ), I will probably put Boly in ahead of Foden in a double wolves defence 442.

Transfer summary:  Likely to carry over the transfer to give me two transfers for my GW36 plan.

Captain – Fernandes, probably

Good luck everyone !!!
