Pogba

The Man Utd midfielder has scored 13 goals and 10 assists from 33 starts and 1 as sub.  One of the few players to have completed the double double of 10 goals and 10 assists.  That total of 13 goals includes 7 penalties however and his points tally is heavily reliant on that responsibility.

The problem with Pogba is recent returns.  A quarter of his 178 points came in a 3 game spell between GW18-20.  There have only been 2 returning games in the last 11 he’s played.  Despite that his recent  underlying stats aren’t terrible although a decent distance behind his season average.

The attraction though is the fixture.  Home to Cardiff may not be the same draw at the moment as home to Huddersfield is but it’s not far off.  Especially as Cardiff have nothing to play for having been relegated last week.

With Man Utd now unable to secure a place in the Champions League there is also very little to play for.  As far as I see it the only incentive to get to 5th is to avoid a Europa League qualifying tie which would occur in the seemingly unlikely event that City lose to Watford in the FA Cup final.  Only De Gea has played more minutes than Pogba in the Premier League this season so if OGS is looking to rest players then Pogba must be fairly high up on that list.

Bernardo Silva

The 2nd midfielder of 5 on the list is basically a result of the scramble to replace the suspended Heung Min Son.

Bernardo Silva seems certain to start in the final match that City need to win to retain the Premier League title.  Probably in his now customary right sided forward role in a 4-3-3.  His minutes, returns and consistency are ok but  aren’t anything to get wildly excited over that’s for sure.  Like the City team generally (Sterling apart) he seems to have suffered a drop off in his underlying stats over the last 5 gameweeks which has seen Man City only score 8 goals in the last 5 games.  Granted those games involved Spurs, Man Utd and Leicester so there are 3 easier opponents they could have faced but still.

Brighton at home are safe from relegation so they may only pack the penalty area with 8 players as opposed to their normal 10 but City will have to break them down I suspect.

Fraser

7 goals and 14 assists in 34 starts plus 3 as sub is a pretty decent return for the price.  His recent form since the return of his partner in crime Wilson in GW30 has been exceptional.  2 goals and 5 assists in 8 games backed up by some pretty amazing underlying stats is excellent going.

An away game against Palace may in theory be a tricky one offensively but the loss of CBs Tomkins and Sakho  since GW34 has seen 7 goals conceded in the last 4 games.

Hazard

16 goals and 15 assists in 32 starts plus 4 as sub is a pretty phenomenal return for the season as his minutes adjusted PP90 shows.  Strangely enough he, to me, seems streaky and inconsistent despite the 56% return rate.  However the fact is that you’ve never had to wait for more than 2 starts for him to return this season.  He also has penalties which is a pretty rare commodity for a midfielder.

Good form, consistent returns, good underlying stats, which he always over performs anyway, and no one has more bonus points than his 35.  It’s just that last fixture v Leicester away could be easier.

Mane

20 goals and 3 assists in 34 starts plus 1 as sub is pretty eye popping stuff for the left side forward in Klopps 4-3-3.  Top of my underlying stat form charts for midfielders he will definitely start as Klopp seeks to win the last game to put maximum pressure on Man City.

His consistency is below 50% which isn’t great but 8 of his 16 returning games have seen double figure FPL point hauls to show he has shaken off his bonus problems of last season.

The other issue is the last fixture is at home to Wolves which is no gimme although Wolves have already secured 7th which may make them more relaxed.

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek. This was as of Wednesday 8 May.

Son

Suspended for GW38 he’s a natural player to sell unless you’ve somehow got bigger problems elsewhere.  I’ve read somewhere that Spurs are appealing which may mean you want to wait for that but it seems difficult to believe it would be entirely over turned with maybe the best outcome just the 1 game ban.

Jimenez

With 13 goals and 10 assists in 35 starts plus 2 as sub he’s been a revelation this season.  He’s 1 of 4 forwards (Aguero, Wilson and Lacazette the others) that have secured the double double of 10 goals and 10 assists.  That all round game has seen him with an excellent consistency return rate of 54% and he’s also consistently featured in the upper regions of my underlying stats form charts.  No forward has more bonus points than his 31.  He’s also never gone more than 3 games without a return which has only happened twice.

The reason for the sale is purely down to the fact that his GW38 fixture is away to title chasing Liverpool. However the top 6 hold little fear for him.  He’s already returned  against Man Utd, Spurs and Chelsea in both games and against Arsenal.

Salah

A surprising one this as although he had to miss the Champions League fixture vs Barcelona due to concussion the consensus seems to be that he will be able to play in GW38.  Why you would want to sell someone who’s scored 22 goals and 12 assists and is the top FPL goal scorer before a decisive title winning game is a surprise to me.  You must have very little to do in the rest of your team

Firmino

Not even in the squad for the UCL game v Barcelona it seems that his chances of playing in GW38 are certainly in the balance and from what I’ve read he seems unlikely to play.  However his form has been good with 3 goals and 2 assists in the 6 games before his injury backed up by decent underlying stats so I would be tempted to hold off until there’s more news.  That’s  unless you are totally hostage to a monetary requirement for an alternative.

Rashford

10 goals and 7 assists in 25 starts and 7 as sub is an ok if not spectacular return for the price.  His recent form has been questionable though and he’s blanked in his last 4 starts and seen a drop in his underlying stats form ranking.  However he’s at home to Cardiff and likely to play CF given that Lukaku is out so unless OGS decides on wholesale rotation then you must have very little to do with your squad if you’re selling him.
