FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW38 WILDCARD TIPS – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW38 wildcard tips article where we pretend we can still use our 2nd wildcard.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW38 WILDCARD TIPS – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

Some background

So I used my wildcard in GW36 and bench boost in GW37.

The chips, of which the wildcard is one, can’t be used in the same week so this article assumes you can’t use your bench boost.  However I’ve tried to give some depth to the team in case players are rested

So there’s no stats in this but virtually all the players are referred to in my player ranking articles. Links below.  Kane’s stats are updated in the captain article which you also might find useful

The team

Here’s the team. The team fits outside my meagre budget of £103.1m and is valued around £105.0m using my teams prices.

Selection discussion

It’s difficult to predict in GW38 who will play and who will be rotated so all players come with some risk.

Remember the basics that City, Arsenal and Liverpool will all be trying to win in order to secure their champions league place or 3rd in City’s case.  Man Utd have the EL final on Wednesday so it seems it might be a very young side put out.  Chelsea have the FA Cup final on the following Saturday.  It’s questionable given the time frame whether that warrants any rotation with a week’s rest

Goalkeeper

I’ve gone for Man City’s Caballero given Man City’s motivation and the fact that with Bravo injured Pep has no alternative GK.  He’s also great value compared to the rest of the defence.

Pickford is just a cheap back up

Defence

There’s gametime risk attached to any Chelsea defender, even John Terry in his last game for the club, so if you’re going to gamble on a Chelsea defender you may as well go for the one who can do the most damage in Alonso.

I’ve gone for Lovren as the cheapest secure Liverpool defender against one of the worst attacking sides in Middlesboro.  Clyne potentially has more attacking ability as has Matip plus Matip has more bonus potential but I went for the budget version.

Yoshida is a value and to a certain extent attacking pick for the home game to Stoke who’ve struggled to score away.

Holding is a great value Arsenal defender, particularly safe if Koscielny doesn’t play, although if you’re swimming in cash you may want to pay the extra for Monreal.

Fernandez is just a cheap makeweight against a side in WBA that doesn’t always threaten to score.

Midfield

Hopefully I don’t need to explain Sanchez with their must win game against Everton.

With Firmino a doubt and Mane injured Coutinho becomes the go to player in Liverpool’s must win game against Middlesboro

Son HM is practically a striker and given limited gametime this season I would expect him to lineup for Spurs away to relegated Hull.

Sane is my value pick in the City midfield.

Carroll is the cheap makeweight.  If you had more cash you could go for Josh King as an insurance against 1 player not making it on the pitch.

Forwards

With Costa not playing on Monday against Watford it seems a long time without a game for the FA Cup final on the 27th May.  Therefore I have to think he has some chance of playing against a hapless Sunderland side

Kane after his exploits against Leicester is a must and I  imagine he will play to further secure the golden boot

Lastly there’s Jesus who will surely start in the game at Watford.

If you’re after cheaper strikers then Origi should start against Middlesboro although the return of Firmino possibly doesn’t make it certainty.  Benteke is another cheap option with Man Utd seemingly rolling out their under 11 team.  There’s also Sturridge for those wanting to punt.
