Here’s the updated version of our regular feature where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers who in the last 3 seasons where none have finished outside the top 10k. We add to the early version the 10 managers gameweek score, overall rank and team value.  Plus we add the same stats for the FFGeek team.  All the additions are in italics so you can easily spot them. We also try and work out if the focus manager has wildcarded.  I thought it maybe useful to do an early version in case you’re thinking of wildcarding. Quite alot of activity. The top 10 Managers have played 30 times in the last 3 years and none have finished outside the top 10k in that time. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection.

The stats of the top 10 managers are incredible again this season.

1. The overall average finishing position of the top 10 managers is 2,943

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 years (ie 30 times playing)

3. 9 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000

It was a tough week for the top 10 managers with a score just above the average and with 8 of the 10 managers having red arrows

The average score of the managers in GW3 was 44 compared to the average of 42. Thats 2 points and 5% above the average. The high score of the 10 was 56. The low score was 37. A big spread of 18 for the score.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers is 344k a drop from  294k last gameweek. A drop in rank of 50k.  The best rank is 30k and the lowest 787k.

The average value is high at £101.2m up markedly from £100.5m.  I suspect this is due to mass WC activation although it is difficult to tell this unless you track money in the bank daily.

If you’re interested my score was 42 the same as the gameweek average and the 6th highest of the managers. My overall rank is ahead of all but 2 of the top 10 managers. My team value is low though at £100.7m.

Here’s a comparison with the how the top 10k overall rank average team looks like. The information is provided by the excellent site FPL discovery. Ranks given the early nature of the game are very volatile so don’t read into it too much at the moment.

What it does show is that the top 10 fpl managers I follow main differences with the top 10k rank are:

Amat, Friend, Valencia, Redmond and Gray are more popular with the top 10 FPL managers than the top 10k ranked managers

Coutinho and Negredo are more popular with the top 10k ranked managers

Here’s the schedule

By the way I understand from the forums that he’s wildcarded

This is the managers team who last year finished the highest of my then top 10 FPL managers. A bit of a slow start but this is similar to last season and he ended up finishing in 1400th position so he wont be panicking. This manager is the closest thing to a fantasy football celebrity there is due to his consistent results so we’ll keep an eye on him. Interestingly though his value looks good. His transfers coming into this gameweek were Kane out – Ibrahimovic in and Andre Gray out Rondon in.

Here’s a team to represent the top 10 managers. Those highlighted are where it’s different to my team. It’s valued at around £100m

The differences between my team and this one are as follows:

Top 10 McAuley v FFG Kone

Top 10 Valencia v FFG Shaw

Top 10 Lamela v FFG Barkley

Top 10 Capoue v FFG Fletcher

Top 10 Rondon v FFG A Gray

  1. Ok so here is my Master(ish) Plan; all kind of feedback welcome, would love to modify and hear your thoughts!

I have decided to take a 4 point hit and transfer out Kun and Pogba: My plan is to wildcard for gameweek 6 when Kun is back!

The team after my 2 transfers for gameweek 4:

    Mandanda (Pickford)
    Shaw, McAuley, Friend (Stones, Parades)
    Hazard, Sanchez, Lamela, Bolasie (Fletcher)
    Ibrahimovic, Kane, Rondon

I have transferred in Kane and Sanchez. I understand Kane is not in form but I fancy him against Stoke and Sunderland.

Wildcard will be played before Gameweek 6 when Aguero is back to play Swansea.
Obviously I won’t be able to plan the wildcard as prices are subject to change but I will lump on Liverpool as their fixtures after gameweek 6 look decent! :

    Man U
    West Brom

Arsenals fixtures also look good as do Man City’s from gw6.

    • pretty risky to bring in Kane. Spurs have not got their offense sorted out and with new midfielders brought in during transfer window, that offense will take some time to get any fluidity.
Costa, Vardy, or for fixtures for 2 weeks- Benteke, or Lukaku are other options ….

  2. Please rate my team

    gomes (valdes)
    stones, mcauley, morgan (smith, ake)
    hazard, drinkwater, tadic, noble (ibe)
    aguero, ibrahimovic, negredo

i have 1.2 in the bank. should i trade smith, ake or ibe and who for.
    any suggestions welcomed

    • You have two holding midfielders that will struggle to get assists or goals, unless hammers get a pen as noble takes them. As a result your MF looks weak. If you have money in the bank then upgrade to Redmond or Bolasie. Tadic also not in great form, I’d be tempted to bring in a Spurs, Arsenal or Liverpool player instead as they all have favourable fixtures coming up.

    • Neither me, but maybe because his price tag is only 5.0 and they are hoping that Man city gets a lot of clean sheets.

      • I agree I think he’s cheap for a man city defender and clean sheets will come

Hope the seasons going well and good luck for GW4

        • Great, pick Stones back up when Kompany returns! I picked him up because of price as well, sort of like Kante at Chelsea. But neither have seen any sort of price increase, time to cut ties and go with a defender that is scoring more than 1-2 points.

  3. Cant believe not a lot of talk about sterling i said this already before he scored twice in gameweek 3 he is playing same role as Roben at Munich lots of goals and assits

    • I agree, transferred him in last week. He looks a player transformed under Pep. My dilemma is do I get Carzola in or risk using my wc to get Sanchez or Ozil in which will require major team surgery.

  4. Thoughts about David Luiz? Thinking of drafting him into my team along with Carzola. He’s pricey at 6m but will be guaranteed a start in a tight looking Chelsea team. Or is he too much of a luxury?

  5. Guys I need help I used ky wildcard and canr decide on a good solid forward . At the moment i have Ibra Kane and negredo but the poor performance again for kane worries me , who should I put in ? I went with Kane cause the good fixtures and fact that not many peiple have him now but now after England game I’m worried

  6. I decided on Costa

My team will be foster, valencia, jagleika, mcaukey, sanchez, hazard, lamela, lallana, ibra, negredo, costa

To change Sanchez for sterling and Costa for aguero in 2 weeks time.

Thoughts please, do you think lallana is weak?is there a better choice for 7.1m?

I really appreciate any advice it’s great for me to learn

  7. Can anyone suggest when is Kompany coming back. And will Stones get a chance to play once Kompany has returned. Also with UCL and other cups coming up who would Pep play in EPL games.

  8. My team for GW4:

    GK: De Gea/Jakupovic
Def: valencia, Terry, Jagielka/ Huth, Friend
    Mid: Hazard, Payet, Barkley, Townsend/Capoue
    Attack: Kane, Lukaku, Negredo.

What subs would you recommend for GW5.

  9. I have played my wildcard and am after thoughts about my team. i also have 2.2 in the bank

    forster (fabianski)
    holgate, stones, morgan, mcauley (smith)
hazard (c), sterling, capoue, drinkwater (fer)
    ibra, negredo (aguero)
