Here’s our usual article on the FFGeek team.  Here we talk through the transfers and the dilemmas around them.  We also go through the team selection decisions and the captain pick plus we run one bookies odds over the team

The transfers

I’ve often mentioned that FPL is often a tale of 50/50 decisions,  some you win some you lose and if ever there was a gameweek to illustrate this then this is one.

2 decisions have dogged me over the international break.  The first is the Aguero replacement and the 2nd is whether Alexis Sanchez should be taking out Firmino for a 4 point hit. The 2 are both related decisions as I’ll explain.

To me Aguero had to go even if it’s only for a 2 match suspension to GW6.  If fit (yes he is injured) he has to return for that game.  So the choice to replace him I decided was Lukaku with Everton having 2 good fixtures in GW4 and GW5. I don’t like doubling up on attackers but Costa was the only other option which lead to the same issue.

That lead to the debate of whether to take a 4 point hit for Sanchez over Firmino.  I hate 4 point hits btw.  FPL is difficult so why gamble a goal on a 4 point hit.  That made me think that I should put in Giroud and not take the hit for Sanchez.  At least then I would have some Arsenal spillover if it was a hiding.

As I said I don’t often take a hit but if you have a captain favourite with high ownership and he is a potential big scorer then really that’s the time to take a 4 point hit.  Sanchez is a captain favourite equal with Hazard.  His ownership thankfully is low at around 13% but pretty high among the very serious players.  He definitely is a big scorer.  The saving grace which is making me not take the hit is the fact that Wenger wasn’t that clear whether he would start after Sanchez arrived back only yesterday in the country having played 2 games over the International break.  He also has PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday.  That should slow down his captain popularity as people switch to Hazard which diminishes the risk.

Not being able to cover captain picks maybe something we need to get used to.  Next week could it be Payet, then Kane, etc

Giroud as I said would have given me some ability to get something from the Southampton game should Arsenal run wild.  However he’s only played 13 minutes so far.  Thats mainly because of the Euro’s but the thought of Giroud on the bench and Sanchez playing up front is too much to bear.

The other negative about Sanchez is that he getting Aguero back in will mean taking Barkley out and leaving me around £5.0m plus with Gray staying in the team dropping in value.  £5.0m is a pretty lean area in midfield which is also not helpful.  It all sounds like a recipe for using the wildcard?  Hmm I feel I’ve now missed the boat and will now hold on to it.

So in rolling the dice I’ve decided to go for Lukaku for Aguero.  At least he will start.  I’m not doing Sanchez tonight.  Firmino looks like he will hold his price at least for tonight.  If I change my mind I’ll post the team and changes

Here’s the team:

Team selection

Only in defence were there any team selection issues.  I went for Foster over Jakupovic even though Hull have the marginally better fixture.

There was no way Amat was going into the team so then it became a question of Kone vs Stones.  I marginally went for Stones backing my 2 Everton attackers if nothing else.

The rest was predictable

Captain choice

I’ll do an article tomorrow but with Hazard leading the polls albeit marginally over Sanchez I’ve gone for him.

Bookies odds on the team

Clean sheet odds for GKs and defenders plus anytime goal scoring odds for attackers:

So the average of £2.83 is worse than I’d like.  Ideally you’d want no one over £3.00 but this time there are 4,  Foster, Stones, Redmond and Barkley. An average around £2.50/£2.60 would be preferable.

Thats it onto my alternative teams and the captain choice
