Player categories

Hi and welcome to my Gameweek 9 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 8 Review

GW5 Banker – Ben Davies

GW5 – 0 points (didn’t play)
GW6 – 1 point (2 goals conceded)
GW7 – 16 points (1 clean sheet, 1 assist, 1 goal, 1 bonus point)
GW8 – 0 points – (didn’t play) – an unexpected late sick note leading to us owners missing out on clean sheet points. Place could be under threat from the returning Rose so could be time to cash in on his high price with some tricky fixtures on the horizon.

GW6 Banker – Sead Kolasinac

GW6 – 6 points (1 clean sheet)
GW7 – 6 points (1 clean sheet)
GW8 – 1 point (1 goal conceded) – a naive second half defensive display after Watford really roughed them up in the second half.

GW7 Banker – Sergio Aguero

GW7 – injured
GW8 – 0 points (didn’t play) – was on the bench though and is surely in contention for a start against Burnley this weekend.

GW8 Banker – David Silva

GW8 – 7 points (1 goal) – a first goal of the season for the play-making Spaniard in City’s goal-fest. Looks good for game-time and super consistent so far this season. Should be a good option for a return versus Burnley this weekend.

Ace – Harry Kane

2 points – a disappointing blank for many people’s captain choice. As mentioned with Davies, more difficult fixtures coming up but that shouldn’t matter as his stats are still remarkable and he can score against anyone.

Joker – Harry Maguire

2 points – clean sheet points wiped out by a stunning free-kick from Nacer Chadli. Moving forward, their must be some real uncertainty about Leicester returns in general after Craig Shakespeare was sacked this week.

Gameweek 9 Picks

Banker – GK Rob Elliot £4.1 (NEW) – CRY

The only steady low-budget GK option in the game so far, there’s a nice run of fixtures coming up for the Newcastle stopper. Palace do have their tails up after surprisingly defeating the champions on Saturday, but I think they may struggle in the north-east this weekend. If nothing else, Elliot’s low price is a great for freeing up funds elsewhere; but I fancy him to do a bit more and keep at least 2 clean sheets in the next 3 so.  I think he’s a great option for the next few weeks.

Ace – Mid Raheem Sterling – £8.1m (MCI) – BUR

Another City pick and is anyone going to argue with this with the Citizens having scored 24 league goals since GW4? Sterling has 6 goals and 2 assists so far this season and even with Aguero fit looks good for steady minutes again having been subbed with 20 minutes left in midweek. Still well-priced, he’s really upped his game under Guardiola this season and I’m backing him for a good return again this week.

Joker – Tammy Abraham – £5.7 (SWA) – LEI –

Certainly caught the eye last weekend with 2 goals against Huddersfield, even if he did shamelessly poach the second from his teammate Ayew! It’s the managerless Foxes who visit The Liberty this weekend and this could be good pickings for the budget Swansea forward. He is still a good differential with 9.7% ownership and could make a nice enabler for those wanting to invest their cash in premium assets elsewhere.

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone
