Fantasy premier league imaginary team – just for gameweek 9 only

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s an imaginary fantasy premier league team solely picked for GW9,   No other fixtures taken into account, just  gameweek 9.  Its also purely theoretical and costs too much to be a real team.  The reasoning?  Just to help you pick a player if you’re a little unsure who to pick.   The chance of immediate points with someone from this team may sway you.  Please excuse the fact that I’m only doing the  briefest of comments.  Some of  the  players are covered in previous articles this week in my fantasy premier league “ones to watch” articles and defenders in my clean sheet article.  By the way I wont pick 2 strikers or 2 midfielders or 2 defenders from the same club.  Ill also pick the defender with the best chance of the bonus or attacking points irrespective of the price although in the commentary I may give a steer on the value option. I’ll put links to my ones to watch articles for more information

Ok here’s the team

Man Utd

De Gea
£5.9
Apart from Evra the only defensive choice you can think will not give you sweats as the team sheet comes out.  Much better value though
Swansea
Remove player i
Vorm
£5.0
Good save prospects and reasonably comparable value to the rest of the defence.  Rangel has the best attacking prospects, Chico the overall value pick at the moment and Taylor the cheap option short term while Davies is injured.  Having said all that I would go for Williams overall when he’s back.  I haven’t backed a clean sheet here but I think its a close call West Ham after Stoke are always a marginal call.
Arsenal
Remove player i
Mertesacker
£5.5
The best attacking option in the Arsenal defence away to Palace and my favoured Arsenal defender in the “ones to watch” article.  Good attacking and, despite Arsenal only getting 1 clean sheet, I think they have been unlucky having only conceded more than 1 in the opening game.  They have good underlying stats to back up this theory
Southampton
Remove player i
Lovren
£5.5
The rolls royce bandwagon option in the Southampton defence who is the bonus point magnet and the best attacking prospect.  If you’re not bathing in cash then the value option is Clyne at £4.5m.  Should be a nailed on 6th clean sheet home to Fulham.  Don’t be fooled by Fulhams win at Palace they are a pretty hopeless attacking outfit
Tottenham
Remove player i
Vertonghen
£7.1
Again the Rolls Royce attacking and bonus point option in the Spurs defence.  Walker is the cheaper gametime secure option at £6.1m and Dawson the value option at £5.2m although he has the Chiriches shadow over him.  Hull who are a pretty ordianry attacking outfit have Aluko and Graham out injured and will surely be looking at a damage limitation exercise
Liverpool
Remove player i
Johnson
£5.7
I marginally don’t think there will be a clean sheet here after Liverpool have not got 1 in their last 5 so I’ve rolled out the best attacking option in Glen Johnson who in the 3-5-2 as a RWB will spend more time in the opposition penalty area than his own. WBA can be a handy attacking outfit as United saw so its a tricky call
Norwich
Remove player i
Olsson
£4.2
I think Norwich will get a clean sheet here over a Cardiff side that have struggled to score away from home, so I’ve gone for the value option but also someone who does have a track record of getting forward
Swansea
Remove player i
Michu
£9.0
After a disturbingly quiet game home to Sunderland where, despite a 4-0 thrashing he failed to score, he returned with a goal in the Europa league.  wEst ham can be strong defensively away from home but they are a bit hit and miss and Michu is as good a bet as anyone to score.  great underling stats and even creating chances
Man Utd
Remove player i
Januzaj
£4.7
Didn’t play in the champions league so has to start against Stoke.  Did stay a little wide for my liking but given the opposition who have struggled defensively away from home he looks a good value option still
Tottenham
Remove player i
Townsend
£5.8
I haven’t put him in my “ones to watch” midfield so I feel a little hypocritcal putting him in here.  Only 1 goal and an assist in his first 7 but starting to look like he can shoot and score or get a resulting assist from anywhere and they will get chances to do that in this game.
Arsenal
Remove player i
Özil
£10.7
I didn’t put him as a captain option as I was a little worried about rotation with Cazorla back and some of Wengers comments about tiredness.  He also has only got 1 assist in his 3 away games and Palace for all their limitations will be pumped in midfield.  However lets not forget that this is a Palace team who conceded 4 against an insipid Fulham team and just because I’m a little unsure about the armband doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have him in my team.  Its a bit of a risk but as we’ve seen the rewards with Ozil are potentially huge
Southampton
Remove player i
Lallana
£6.3
2 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 and has all the attributes you want in a fantasy premier league midfielder in that he plays high up the pitch and relatively centrally.  Saints high pressing system means he often wins the ball high up in opposition territory.  Doesn’t really have any underlying stats to back him up you’re relying on form and a really terrible Fulham defence made worse by not having Hangeland available
Arsenal
Remove player i
Giroud
£9.3
4 goals and 4 assists in his first 8 games for the most secure gametime striker in the league who only has Bendtner as cover.  What I like about him now is that even though he hasn’t scored in 4 games his all round game is such that he is creating chances and getting assists to fill the return gaps and has a 75% consistency return rate.  Against the worst defence in the league he really should be in your team
Liverpool
Remove player i
Suárez
£11.4
Speaking of all round games, possibly my favourite striker after RVP (of the last 2 years!).  Gets in to the box and shoots with alarming regularity but creates chances for others as he drops and searches out the ball.  Per minute his overall underlying stats are better than anyone.  The game against Newcastle showed him at his best.  WBA are a good defensive team and in my ratings before GW8 I ranked them 7th.  I still think they are vulnerable though to the big teams.  While everyone remembers the win at United lets not forget the nil nil draw at Everton when a Lukakuless Everton team pummeled them but somehow failed to score.  I would back Suarez against any team home or away
Man Utd
Remove player i
van Persie
£13.9
It wouldn’t be a Saturday gameweek without the tiresome injury drama with RVP so I’ve chosen to take a blind eye to that as Moyes needs him to play given their league position and although its difficult to trust a word that does or doesn’t come out of Moyes mouth I’m taking his positive words at face value.  Famous last words!  However If I cant back RVP against a Stoke side that should have conceded 5 in the first half against Liverpool and were run ragged by Arsenal then I should be investigating whether RVPs body has been taken over by men from outer space where they don’t play football.  personally I thought he was fantastic against Southampton.  His shooting stats, apart from conversion, are actually better than last year and he is still averaging 3 shots in the box per game.  Granted creating chances have dried up as Rooney now has set pieces but he shouldn’t need that at home to Stoke.  Sound like I’m trying to convince myself?
That’s it good luck to everybody today in fantasy premier league gameweek 9.  Here’s the links to my “ones to watch” articles and my clean sheet article which give you more detailed analysis than up above for a decent amount of the players
