Last night I put up my fantasy premier league January Wildcard team. Here’s a bit more on the thought process.
To be honest I didn’t want to do it but my inability to get any Arsenal players in the team for the home game to Fulham and the injury to Barkley added to existing injuries were the last straw so I decided to change and just leave enough in reserve for when Aguero came back.
Just to remind you here’s my fantasy premier league January Wildcard team:
The fantasy premier league January Wildcard defence
My first priority was to get representatives of Everton Arsenal and Chelsea into my team. They are the 3 best defences in my mind as I detailed in my recent “ones to watch GK/Def article link below:
http://www.fantasyfootballgeek.co.uk/fantasy-premier-league-12w-gksdefs-gw21/
Ideally I would have liked Coleman Terry and Mertesacker. Unfortunately the budget dictated that while Coleman was essential there was no money for the other 2. Azpilicueta is the cheapest Chelsea defender by some distance at £5.3m. Unfortunately his gametime security is under question. When Ivanovic comes back I think he will start. That means either Azpilicueta will go back to LB or Cole will hold his place. Koscielny doesn’t have the attacking or bonus potential of Mertesacker but is nearly £1m cheaper. I did think of Sagna who has assist potential but in the end I went for the Bonus potential of Koscielny.
In the other positions , again I followed 2 of the better home defensive teams. Hull are only bettered by Man City and Arsenal at home so Chester at £3.9m is a no brainer. Palace under Pulis are some home defensive force and with Ward playing in midfield he seemed the obvious choice at £4.1m
I had very little money for the GK so I went for the Saints combination home and away.
Fantasy premier league January Wildcard Midfield
Again in the key players I’ve followed my midfield “ones to watch article of last week, link below:
http://www.fantasyfootballgeek.co.uk/fantasy-premier-league-12w-mids-6m-gw21/
The 3 top players in the article above I’ve followed with Hazard Silva and Ozil going into my team. Unfortunately I knew with my value that this was going to involve sacrifices in my team
Again that means I’m left with 2 rotating midfielders. Januzaj I held on to as he seems to be getting better and better every game. The other position coupled with the 3rd striker was where I had to plug the team with the best I could get with the remaining cash. I went for the cheapest I could which involved Noone of Cardiff at £4.3m. I could have gone with Pozuelo at £4.2m but I thought he would lose his position when Dyer and Hernandez returned. Noone certainly wasn’t my ideal choice with more money I probably would have gone for Sterling in the other rotation position.
Here’s the cheapie option “ones to watch” article:

Fantasy premier league January Wildcard Forwards
2 forwards are head and shoulders above everyone else. That’s Suarez and Aguero. So they will automatically go into my team. There’s enough money in the bank and more to get in Aguero and I’ll sell Negredo to get him.
The 3rd striker was a plug with as much money as I had. I can tell you that wasn’t much. With more cash I would have liked to buy Adebayor or even Rodriguez as a cheapie. Umming and Ahhing between Chamakh and Jerome really wasn’t where I wanted to be. Its possible when Aguero comes back I could take out Silva and invest more in a forward but I certainly wasn’t losing him before the home game against Cardiff
Here’s the forward “ones to watch” article

Overall
So Ive got 9 core players:
Boruc
Coleman Koscielny Azpilicueta
Ozil Hazard Silva
Negredo (to Aguero) Suarez
And then 2 players out of Ward Chester Januzaj Noone and Jerome.
