Important note before going further

The first schedule ranks players by their NON penalty underlying stats and expected assists converted to FPL points in GW1-8 to date. Those who have taken penalties or are expected to be the penalty taker have an * next to their name

Then there’s there fixture ease ranking  their average minutes in the first 8 gameweeks plus their value for money factor and their anytime goalscoring odds

The 2nd schedule shows their xG90 and xA90

I’ve already posted the defender rankings and best attacking defenders rankings to GW8

Player values are as of Wednesday 25 November

A few players worth commenting on

Players not in the schedule

Zaha (5th),  Barkley (15th) Trossard (16th)  Willian (27th) didn’t make it due to gametime risk

Foden (23rd) and Neto (25th) didn’t make it due to gametime risk.

Aubameyang (32nd) and Havertz (35th) didn’t make it the points threshold.  Neither were significantly disadvantaged by average minutes either

Ziyech didn’t make the minutes threshold.  If he had he would have been 17th although disadvantaged by a 55 minute average.  If you think his average will be 75 minutes going forward he would have been 8th.  That is on the back of some insane xA90 numbers.  Numbers that De Bruyne has never even got near in any league.

Aubameyang, Havertz and  Ward Prowse didn’t make the schedule due to their stats being poor.  Havertz’s in particular are very poor.  He’s also a Covid doubt.

Ziyech isn’t in there as he hasn’t made the 300 minutes.  His stats in the 2 games are off the charts.

Grealish

The form of his life and no hint of a drop off.  Volumes are fantastic too.  It just makes anything else he’s ever done in season’s before look pitiful so is there a cliff coming?

 Mane and Salah

Looks like Salah will be fit.  Mane has the way better open play stats.  Salah has pens.  You take your choice

Son

Sons worst games in underlying terms have been Brighton, Everton and Newcastle.  His best games Man Utd and Southampton.  Do fixtures matter?  Is it better for him to have teams that attack rather than sit back so he can counter attack?  Therefore is Chelsea a bad fixture for Son.  It’s difficult to say at this stage.

Jota

On the face of it Jota’s stats look outstanding and if he averaged anything other than 56 minutes he would be top of the rankings.

Unfortunately the truth is far less straightforward.  In fact it’s the reverse.  Jota’s sub appearances have boosted his expected goals and assists per 90 minutes up to incredible levels.  He’s started 4 matches.  Vs Man City, Sheffield and Villa he produced pretty ordinary underlying stats.  Against Leicester they were phenomenal though.

So what does this tell us apart from gametime risk.  It’s worth noting that his underlying stats for a far less functional attacking side in Wolves were absolutely excellent.  He just couldn’t put the ball in the net.  Something he’s not having a problem with at the moment.

It’s not straightforward but lets get real.  He’s £6.6m with a decent chance of starting for Liverpool.

De Bruyne

Like Man City and his team mates it’s a big drop off from previous seasons although volume wise it’s not too bad.  Why the drop off is something that we can all debate.

However there’s no doubting the class and the fixtures coming up are excellent.

Bowen and Soucek

Both are performing reasonably well and the fixtures are ok.

Trezeguet

Some pretty good stats posted for the price and ok fixtures.  Worth a thought.

Bruno Penandes

If this guy didn’t have penalty duties no one would even be thinking of him such are his pretty ordinary open play underlying stats for the price.  Unlike Eden Hazard who outperformed his xG in every season with Chelsea and De Bruyne who’s out performed them in 6 of 8 seasons where he’s played reasonable minutes Fernandes record is more patchy with 3 of 5 out performances.

However Man Utd got 14 penalties last season and 12 the season before.  So far they have 4 penalties from 8 games if you can believe it.  That would put them on course for 19 for the season at this rate.  If that’s the case with a pretty decent xA90 at the moment he’s hard to ignore. Just as an aside Leicester have had 8 penalties from 9 games. It’s just all a bit ridiculous.
