fantasy premier league midfielders GW10 – player rankings

This is the 2nd article in the player rankings series. There’s also defenders and GKs

Methodology

I’ve picked a selection of midfielders who I think will start GW10 although where there is doubt it is mentioned in the commentary below.

I’ve then looked at their expected goals and assists data in 19/20 so far as well as how it relates to their historical numbers. After that I’ve then adjusted it for their ability to over/underperform, their bonus potential, their average minutes played and their upcoming 6 fixtures

Stats definitions

FFG Proj PPG: The PPG going forward using the above methodology adjusted for minutes played and upcoming fixtures

FPL PPM 19/20: The points per match from the fantasy premier league website

Rank form: Their ranking in my current form table for the position. I’ve been unable to complete this this week

Av minutes: The average minutes played per match to date. Non appearances aren’t counted.  There is some discretionary adjustments for non representative sub appearances

Consistency %: the % of starts where the player has scored a goal or assist. Only appearance of 45 mins or more count

Fixture ease: this is ranking for attacking players from my fixture ease schedule article. See also below

ATGS GW10: the anytime goal scorer bookies odds for GW10 for £1 invested.

A few notes

Martial

Martial stands out like a sore thub in the schedule but there are a number of caveating factors. Firstly though his stats as a CF for Man Utd are very good and the fixtures for Man Utd as you’ll see below are also very good.  Those 2 reasons are why he’s ranked so high.

However firstly there’s a big minutes risk.  Will he start in GW10 given his injury and the fact that he only came on for the first time since GW3 for 6 minutes in GW9.  I’ve written this before the Europa League match on Thursday evening so some decent minutes there will be fairly crucial.

The good fixtures are something of a mixed blessing for Man Utd as they seem to struggle to break down sides that just want to defend against them.  Norwich may not but others may do and the appearance of good fixtures may actually be an illusion.

Lastly the problem of breaking teams down won’t be helped by the lack of Paul Pogba who is currently injured and won’t be fit for GW10.

The last word is a positive one.  He does have great stats as a forward and if you’re ever going to roll the dice Norwich is the ideal opponent.  Watch out for any injury updates though and go in with your eyes open to the risk.

Bernardo Silva/Mahrez

I’ve yet to hear anything about the Bernardo Silva tweet despite him having until the 21st to respond.  I suspect he will be banned but given theirs no outcome I’ve not put Bernardo Silva or Mahrez in the schedule.

Hudson Odoi

I’ve had a go at modelling him but it’s pretty much guess work on the limited amount of data.  Time to rely on your eyes and the fact that for a guy playing in the front 3 of a Champions League side £6.0m is pretty decent value.

The Villa 3

All 3 players actually have ok stats.  They’re just hammered by their fixtures.

Fixture ease

Here’s our fixture ease schedule for attacking players where the teams are ranked by the ease of defences they face over the next 6 games
