fantasy premier league midfielders GW17 – player rankings

This is the 2nd article in the player rankings series. There’s also defenders and GKs

Methodology

I’ve picked a selection of midfielders who I think will start GW17 although where there is doubt it is mentioned in the commentary below.

I’ve then looked at their expected goals and assists data in 19/20 so far as well as how it relates to their historical numbers. After that I’ve then adjusted it for their ability to over/underperform, their bonus potential, their average minutes played and their upcoming 6 fixtures

Stats definitions

FFG Proj PPG: The PPG going forward using the above methodology adjusted for minutes played and upcoming fixtures

FPL PPM 19/20: The points per match from the fantasy premier league website

Rank form: Their ranking in my current form table for the position

Av minutes: The average minutes played per match to date. Non appearances aren’t counted. There is some discretionary adjustments for non representative sub appearances

Consistency %: the % of starts where the player has scored a goal or assist. Only appearance of 45 mins or more count

Fixture ease: this is ranking for attacking players from my fixture ease schedule article. See also below

ATGS GW17: the anytime goal scorer bookies odds for GW14 for £1 invested.

A few notes

Before you make angry comments below about Mane and Salah

Liverpool have a great next fixture but then no game in GW18 followed by an away match at Leicester.  They then face 2 of the better defences in Wolves at home followed by a trip to Spurs.  All that is a tricky schedule and has significantly affected the projections for Mane and Salah.

Although it’s easy to focus on a 5-2 hammering of Everton and the 3-0 win over Bournemouth its easy to forget that they only scored 2 vs Brighton, Palace and Villa in recent weeks and going a bit further back 1 against Sheffield United.  Obviously it doesn’t mean I’ll be selling Mane at any point as he’s far too highly owned to take that risk and while I said what I said before Liverpool have the potential to hammer anyone.

Sterling

Sterling has the odd game where he produces virtually nothing but most of the time he’s producing excellent underlying stats and over the season they remain excellent.  It’s impossible to think the player of the last couple of seasons has disappeared.

Martial

United have a great schedule ahead and Martial is playing as the centre forward.  When on the pitch he produces great stats that he regularly over performs.  In fact last season he had the best conversion rate of anyone. United have yet to prove they can beat teams that pack the defence and you take Martial with the knowledge that he could be injured at anytime.

Here’s how I’ve rated the teams by the ease of the defences they face over the next 6 games. Just in case you want to check out fixtures when thinking about a transfer.
