Here’s our fantasy premier league midfielders GW18 player rankings article. I’m trialing a new format but as usual there’s a table of stats to help and a spreadsheet that can be filtered how you like to help you make a transfer choice
fantasy premier league midfielders GW18 – player rankings
This is the 2nd article in the player rankings series. There’s also defenders and GKs
New Methodology
I’m trying a new method for the article which is amalgamates my form article with the player rankings article.
I’ve ordered the players by their underlying stats ranking when I convert their xG and xA over the last 10 gameweeks into FPL points for goals and assists. That figure is adjusted for the average minutes played over the last 10 gameweeks.
I’ve then provided a range of different stats to help you choose which player is the best for a transfer in.
Stats definitions
Form s/10/5. These are the form rankings for season, for the last 10 gameweeks and the last 5 game weeks. They are the average minutes adjusted rankings once the xG and xA are converted into FPL points. The lower the number the better the ranking.
Starts – this looks the their recent history in starting matches. 3/5 means they started 3 of the last 5. L 11 means they started the last 11
Av minutes: The average minutes played in the last 10 gameweeks. Non appearances aren’t counted.
PPM – the fantasy premier league sites points per match.
Fixture ease: this is ranking for attacking players over the next 6 gameweeks from my fixture ease schedule article. The lower the number the better the fxitures
Consistency %: the % of starts where the player has scored a goal or assistover the season. Only appearance of 45 mins or more count
ATGS: the anytime goal scorer bookies odds for GW18 for £1 invested.
VFM: A Value for Money calculation by dividing the theoretical season goal and assust points by the players value. The higher the better.
The schedule ranked by midfielders underlying stats over the last 10 gameweeks
Here is the link to the google spreadsheet. You can go to file>make a copy and then sort it how you like.
The schedule is not adjusted for Fixtures however the players fixture ease ranking is included along with a load of other stats
So for example if you take Pulisic you can see his season and last 10 form are great but they have dropped off in the last 5 GWks to being ranked 12th. He’s started the last 8 but his average minutes at 72 isn’t great. His PPM is good at 4.7 as are the fixture ranking at 5. His season consistency of returns at 55% is very good and his anytime goalscoring odds are reasonable for GW18 vs Spurs at £2.80. His value for money at 15.4 looks very good too based on those last 10 gameweeks. It’s just how much you think his drop off in underlying stats form over the last 5 gameweeks and his poor average minutes affects your decision as to whether you transfer him in.
Players who didn’t make it but were in the original top 30
Bernardo and David Silva have been rotated and David Silva is an injury doubt.
Fleck is suspended for GW18
Barnes and Perez have not started due to the change in formation by Rodgers to bring in Iheancho.
Walcott is injured.
It’s also worth mentioning Zaha. Over the last 10 gameweeks he was ranked 49th and over the last 5 gameweeks 46th.
The fixture ease schedule for attacking players
Here’s the schedule which ranks the teams by the ease of the defences they face over the next 6 gameweeks. You can then see the schedule they face if you’re thinking of transferring a player in
Here’s the form schedule in it’s original format
Players are ranked by their underlying stats converted to FPL goal and assist points over the last 10 gameweeks. This includes all 30 players and you can see their individual xG90 and xA90
