fantasy premier league new player profile – Guillermo Varela

New player profiles

Guillermo Varela is a 20 year old Uruguayan right back who has signed for Manchester United for 1.54m pounds. He is 5 foot 7 inches and has transferred from Uruguayan club Penarol.

Background

Varela is a young prospect who has yet to break in to the Penarol first team but has made appearances for various Uruguayan age group teams. He was signed by Manchester United after a 2 week trial at the club.

Varela is the result of Manchester United extensive scouting network in South America. He is known for his attacking ability, pace and crossing.

He will be joining up with the Uruguayan under 20 team for the under 20 world cup in Turkey.

Nothing earth shattering in his statements on joining “I am very pleased to be part of this club, one of the best in the world”

Stats

Very simple, he’s made 1 appearance for the Penarol first team.  He’s made 9 appearances for the Uruguayan under 19 team and 10 appearances for their under 20 team

Fantasy premier league perspective

The first choice RB at Man Utd is unquestionably Rafael.  Cover when rotated was provided by Jones and Smalling. Having made only 1 appearance for Penarol its unlikely he will be making an impact on the Man Utd team this season.   Its impossible not to see Varela as anything other than a long term prospect and a RB for the Capital One Cup and easy draws in the FA Cup. This is much the same as Buttner was  signed as cover for Evra last season and made minimal appearances in the premier league.

In simple this is someone who’s unlikely to have any influence on our fantasy premier league team and wont be in our day 1 lineup.
