Fantasy premier league new player profile – Sunderlands David Moberg Karlsson

New player profiles

David Moberg Karlsson is a 19 year old 5 foot 10 inch Swedish striker who will join Sunderland from Swedish Club IFK Goteberg for 1.54 million pounds

Background

David Moberg Karlsson is a young  striker that has played 3 seasons for IFK Goteberg although has not been a guaranteed starter in any of the seasons.  He’s also played in 3 friendlies for the Sweden under 19 team.

He is left footed so has played as a left winger as part of his development.  Although he has played limited games for IFK he is one of the countries better prospects.

In his quotes to ESPN he gave some insight in to his perceived strengths

“I’m excited it’s a Premier League club, it’s a big club,” he said. “I looked at the facilities and it’s great so I’m looking forward to it. My best skill is probably my technique and speed, particularly one-on-one. Of course, if I’m offered the wing I prefer that because then I can come one-on-one much more, but I like to play as a striker too, so I can do both. I’m going to say goodbye to my team-mates soon.

Fantasy premier league perspective

Steven Fletcher is Sunderlands main striker and reports suggest he will be ready for next season.  Given that and  even allowing for the abject failure of Danny Graham and the perspective of Di Canio of Wickham as a playboy type its hard to see David Moberg Karlsson getting any significant game time as striker given his age and experience to date.  In addition Korean striker Dong Wong Ji has returned from a loan spell from Bundesliga Club FC Augsburg.   At best David Moberg Karlsson is 4th choice and probably 5th.  He’s likely to get game time only in the Capital One cup and even then only for an easy draw.  He does have the ability to play on the left wing and given the issues that both O’Neill and Di Canio have had with James McLean in this position it seems that this is his best chance of breaking through in to the team.  However he’s likely to be classified as a striker in fantasy premier league so his attraction in that position has got to be virtually nil.  Indeed alot of reports suggest he will be put in to the development squad this year as a preperation for the first team at a later date

Like anyone when you do an article at this stage of the season, pre season games may change your view but I would say the chances of him appearing in my opening day fantasy premier league team is nil at the moment.
